She is singing about her being a spore instead of a flower. We don't need blooming flowers to be successful. A spore is flying freely but still, can fly high as well.

It s actually dandelion flower seeds. Its korean we say “민들레 홀씨“ its nothing about fungus. When she released song “23” , she said the age of 23 is like a flower now she is in her 30 s , she said there’s no reason or no need for everyone to be a flower, wants to live as a spore fluttering splendidly in the sky it’s really a song about being free, going after your own victory. lyrics say a lot about not being afraid & not care about what people say

Aaron struggling to decipher IU's lyrics is always fun to see lmao. IU once compared herself to a blooming flower (this was during the Chat-shire era). Nowadays, she's comparing herself to a spore, or a dandelion seed-- intent to roam the world, carried by the wind, with no destination in sight.

no it's not mr hall. That is the wrong translation of the meaning of 홀씨= Holssi. If you search in Google 홀씨 in english, Mr Hall will come up. But 홀씨 is holssi (song title). it's mean spore.

I think the lyrics "you say 'hoo' then I fly" means when you're blowing a dandelion, the spores get blown and flies away to the sky. Holssi meaning spore. She actually have an introduction about this song which I think can clear your questions on what the message was. Edit: 'hoo' the onomatopoeia of blowing away the spore

This song is connected with the album's name the winning. Yeahh.. Its the winning era for IU and Uaena. Before so many will ask when heard name "IU" People will react "who? In the song intro, IU said that in Chatshire she used a bunch of flowers as a metaphor for her age. She believed then that she would be in full bloom when the time comes. BUT now that she's in her 30's, she realized that there's no need for everything in the world to become flowers, so she decided to live as a holssi (spore) fluttering softly in the sky. And the shopping cart kinda represents, a shopper who doesnt get tire of shopping, and just like that she wanted to look around without a destination in mind... holssi represents a fluff of Dandelion, not spore...So, when you blow it, you can see the dandelion seeds flying away..The translator expressed it as a spore, so everyone is misunderstanding.. IU said she wanted a fluff of Dandelion to live without blooming. But there is also an explanation that if it were to bloom, it would bloom in the sky, not in the ground.

she have hard life before, so it may be mean that she will let go her shadowy dark part and be free. At the end of the mv, one girl stare the other from dark house. it probably metaphore her past. She will suffer much through her life afterward but she will be against it as like holssi. Holssi is flower spore seed like dandelion so be cool with harsh life.

holssi=spore, kkotssi=flower seed dandelion->spore(x), seed(o) 30 years ago, due to the title of a song by a famous Korean singer who used the word dandelion "holssi", the word became widely used even though a dandelion has not holssi. there comes a misunderstanding cuz Koreans translate "holssi" to "spore" directly without even knowing they are using a wrong word.

민들레 홀씨가 외국에서는 부정적인 느낌인가요? 한국에서는 동글동글 보송보송 귀엽고 어릴때 훅 불어서 바람에 날려보낸 추억이 있는 그런 좋은 이미지에요. 홀씨는 바람에 자유롭게 날아다니다 땅에 내리고 싹을 틔우죠. 아이유는 민들레 홀씨처럼 틀에 갇히지 않고 자유롭게 내가 하고 싶은것을 하고 내 영역을 넓혀가겠다는 의미로 이 곡을 쓴거 같아요.

Why am I sad about this song... The other IU in the sky is free, huge, and peaceful, and her fans are free to be "Hallsii" and have fun with her as an artist. However, the earthly IU is a dandelion seed, unable to fly. She can blow her fans away, but she is still on the ground. In the first scene, it's a desolate landscape. She has a cart following her. It has everything in it. Her receipts, her dreams, her real-life problems. She can't fly away because of that. Her as an artist and her real life are completely separated. She sends people flying, sending them to her persona, another giant in the sky, but she walks alone, still alone on the ground, pushing her cart.

I know your frustration on the lyric. They really need a better English translator to do the subtitle. Dandelion should be a beautiful thing. You blow it ("You say 'hoo'), they I fly--That should be poetic, but the translation (the negativity of "spore" ruin the meaning) is really bad ...
