IU: they are same person, the kid was me in the past , technically you might said they are two individuals. This song is about my 20s. The 1st part is early 20s period , 2nd part is mid 20s and the final part is late 20s. For early 20s, I wasn’t satisfied with myself and even didn’t like myself. But thinking that I was clearly not like this when I was a child, Thinking about why this is the case, so in the mid 20s, I was a little relieved. The lyrics said, "I once had a sea in my heart." When I was in the mid 20s, it was like shouting that I would go back to that sea. I don't know the subtle nuance of English translation. However, the first word of the song begins with "But" and the last verse ends with "Nevertheless." I really appreciate that you care about the lyrics unlike other foreign reaction KZbinrs in this song. It's a pity that others are experts in music. Since they have a lot of musical knowledge, it is regrettable that they missed the truly beautiful part of this song because they instinctively took a technical approach. The true beauty of this song is the deep content of the lyrics and the corresponding musical development. The progress of the music and the strength of the vocals were all carried out according to the lyrics. So the chorus could have continued to be bigger and more colorful enough to cover the song, but the reason it's still as low as the background... The darkness of life (The day you lose to life) will come in the future, but as there is always a sea in memory, it will be possible to find a way back without closing her eyes in the darkness. In addition, the lyrics are thought to be connected to IU's other songs, Love Poem and Celebrity. If you listen to the lyrics first and then listen to this song, it will be much more touching. In fact, this song has so many implications that even Koreans find new meanings in the lyrics every time they listen to it. I think this song is about accepting yourself, recovering the self-esteem, and overcoming anxiety and depression. It seems she dreamed of achieving many great things, or fixing her weaknesses for a long time, probably not only as a singer but also as a common, young adult. Of course that attitude must have made her anxious and hate herself. She describes the desire was like the sea that would never dry. But over years she learned to live with her reality. Then eventually close to 30 she is comfortable with herself and realizes she had not tortured herself so much when she was much younger (maybe when she was a teenager). It seems she wrote this song for some time after overcoming the psychological difficulties. She expects that such a psychological habit would come back someday, but she is not worried too much about this, because she knows how to deal with it. This is a beautiful song indeed. I guess most adults have similar experiences?

From what I got from the lyrics is about her life and self love. Her lyrics in the beginning tells that she hated herself at some point in her life and how she felt dealing with that. Now that she's experiencing more life, she wondered why she was too hard on herself in the past, hence, she talked about her child self had to suffer pain just to become what she is today. And in the middle of the song, she started accepting herself and slowly lifting herself up. Lastly, she said said in the lyrics, there will be a point she might come back to the sea (basically a metaphor of losing of yourself, depression, etc.) but she knows she will eventually fight back to look for herself again. That's basically what I got from it. Not sure if I am right but I relate it a lot so I knew what she talked about immediately. It's about her life or in general, self love.
