Yeahhh everyone has been saying that this sounds like an old school SM songs like ones you'd hear for SHINee or TVXQ. The songwriter known to be SM's genius, KENZIE who did work for those groups so that's probably why. I really dig this song. It's dramatic, mysterious, romantic. It adds more color to NCT discography, especially title tracks

This sound is actually nct 127 going back to one of their older title tracks "Limitless" (Favorite was written by the same producer that made that song), with great raps, melodic choruses and IMPECCABLE harmonies. Oh they never fail to amaze me

The thing is that SM likes to trying out new kinds of music and that's including sometimes go back because it's refreshing songs since in these days kpop starting to sound somehow the same, SM doing something really smart for changing the kind of songs that they release i think in this point they making their idols shine from different ways and i guess that this is attractive for a lot of people that listening to kpop or makes them know how kpop was before what it is today. About the song i heard it some times by now but i really feel connected with the chorus of the song, it's really nice and the melody is really addicting

i love this side of nct if u haven’t i recommend limitless (their best title track imo why does no one ever recommend it 😭) it’s kinda similar to favorite in that it’s a little different from their usual sound but the way i fell in love w favorite chorus reminded me of when i fell in love w limitless chorus

i'm not very familiar with kpop old school either, but everyone does say favorite gives those vibes! aside from KENZIE, the backbone of SM herself, one of its main producers, darkchild, is also the brain behind lots of 00's bops.. he worked with Backstreet boys, Spice girls, Destiny child, MJ.. i mean man certainly knows how to make it feels nostalgic!! Favorite still has that NCT sounding formula. NCT sounding is all about intense hiphop beat/heavy rap at the verse and then it turns into clear vocal showcase/melodic RnB section at the prechorus/bridge. It's not always experimental that has sudden mood/genre switch. But the thing is, Favorite still has that unique NCT sound that can mix that sad melancholic whistle sounding with electronic dance track which is awesome. Idk whether i should cry or dancing while listening to this hahaha

It gives the vibes of 2nd gen of kpop with the twist of neo bcs perhaps SM still wants to give the signature of NCT 127 which is its uniqueness. It's so nostalgic yet fresh in my opinion.... Why do people love to act like NCT127 is only loud and hype music ?? Literally NCT is an Hip Hop/RnB based group? This song is more in alignement with their sound than Sticker. Have y’all heard Limitless? Touch? Boss? Cherry Bomb? Gimme Gimme ? Also most of their b-sides are RnB thats for all units. That’s why you should always listen to albums cause that’s the only way you get the real essence of a group. Or you’ll listen to songs like this and be like wow it’s nct127😀??? The song is written by the same composer who wrote NCT 127's Limitless. If you listen to limitless, I think you can get similar feeling to favourite (the 90s, early 2000s sound).

The chours has a lot of similarity with 2nd gen kpop song maybe it's because this song was produced by Kenzie. If you aren't familiar with her, she's one of SM best song writter. She has been writing (hit) songs for SM since BoA and TVXQ. She's also the person behind masterpieces such as LIMITLESS and Red Velvet's Psycho.
