Taemin is one of a kind tbh a REAL artist, you won't find anybody else like him in the industry. I'd recommend you to react to his live performances eventually cause If you're shocked right now.. you're gonna be even more mesmerized when you see him perform on stage!! I think you're only missing Danger (his solo debut) and Press Your Number as of title tracks but also, once you're done with those, he has a lot of amazing japanese songs with music videos as well and of course his korean bsides are amazing too so hopefully you can also react to those! That thing you said about you liking every single one of the songs you've heard so far.. Finally, thank you! About the meaning: he’s referencing Greek philosopher Plato’s theory of ideas here. Plato believed that an 'Idea' is an ultimate reality. Every form has an idea, an image, or standard set for it and believed that these ideas were eternal. For example, when talking about a human, everyone has an image, an ideal type of human according to him. Taemin’s Idea says otherwise. Plato’s ideas had a single voice for a category but Taemin in his song talks about “voices” and how they rule over him like a messiah. He is driven by multiple thoughts and not an ultimate one. He disagrees with Plato and believes that perception is beyond limits. He says that being governed by a single concept kills him softly, that instead of being trapped in the cave and living in the shadow of the truth, he wants to free himself from the darkness and embark on a journey of enlightenment where he discovers a new ego, identity and meaning. There is also song called 'Identity' in this album. For the MVs I recommend 2 KIDS, Just me and you, Under my skin, Famous. Also 'Black Rose', it’s a b-side from his Act 1 album, it’s not an MV, but performance on SM The Stage, featuring rap by Kid Milli, it’s really cool.

Fun fact: BoA, who sang “Killing me softly”, saved SM from bankruptcy before. Lee Soo Man, the founder of SM is always grateful to her. She has inspired many 2nd gen idols and Key (SHINee) and Tiffany (SNSD) are HUGE fans of her! BoA made her debut when she was 13 years old and she is still releasing music till this day. It’s crazy that she has 20+ years of experience and she is only 34. She is considered one of SM’s most successful soloists and paved way for Kpop in Japan and Asia.

@@theialx great choice. for Korean release, I recommend Only One (you can also watch her live stage feat Taemin), One Shot Two Shot, Camo, Better (Her latest release), Encounter (B-side), Irreversible (B-side), Hurricane Venus, Disturbance (feat Taemin in her MV), Valenti, No. 1 (probably her representation song) Japanese release: Eien, Masayume Chasing (Fairy Tail opening), Possibility Duet, Shout it Out, Watashi Kono Mama de li no kana (Baekhyun from EXO has covered this before) US release: Eat You Up, Energetic, and I Did it for Love. Seriously, her discography is really extensive, hope you are able to find a track that you like from the above list. 😅

BoA also included Taemin in her videos and performances from when he was much younger so they have a good working relationship. I could feel the love and respect and nostalgia during their most recent rendition of Only One with a mature Taemin. I watched their earlier performances and collaborations prior to the last one. What a transformation of both artists, both legends. BoA is amazing. And Taemin is beyond beautiful on all levels.

I think it is because of his voice too, Aaron! Like I have went thru each of his solo tracks and I couldn't bring myself to dislike any of them. His voice is just honey to the ears and the production of his songs are great, I think you would really love his Japanese song Under My Skin which has an MV and you can see his other side. Other songs that would reveal more of his art would be 2 Kids and Day and Night. Both of these have MVs.

You should think of "Idea" as part of a trilogy. Last year, Taemin released a full album called "Never gonna dance again" and it has 3 parts. For me, each part is represented by a song. -Prologue ---> "2 kids" (his innocent side) -Act 1 ---> "Criminal" (his dark side, lost of his innocent) -Act 2 ---> "Idea" (the new version of himself) Hope you listen the album. He had the creative control of every single detail and this album demonstrates (like no other) the vision of Taemin as an artist.

accoring to taemin the whole concept is leaned on plato's theory of forms (hence the greek prounciation of idea as I-DE-A) about him finding his "ideal" self. in plato's theory of forms the perfect and ideal forms can not exist in the physical world. Taemin himself said during his vlive that the mv shows that he can neither exist in hell nor heaven but in between, in some kind of limbo which allows him to reach his perfect "form". the "you" which he's referring to in the song is a different form of himself as the lyrics say "everything in me is doubled". the two sides in him are struggling to reach their ideals p.s. please react to Under my Skin, it is a meaningful song for taemin which he dedicated to his band members ♥

a Taemin trivia: Taemin got to SM for his dancing. when Shinee debuted, Taemin's voice was still changing so he got barely any lines, when they sang live sometimes Jonghyun had to sing with him too to help. Some people called him 'tone deaf' as an insult. Taemin himself once said that someone told him that his voice wasn't suited for singing. But Taemin used it as motivation to improve his singing skills. And now here he is, the best dancer with heavenly voice. We're now all a big fan of his beautiful voice too!

Aaron: How do I go on from this? Me: You don't, you just let him take over your soul. All hail our Lord and Savior Lee Taemin! Seriously though, I always say that Taemin is art in human form. The man just exudes art. He is a true performer and you can just FEEL his overwhelming passion through his work. Taemin has said that when he performs he just lets the music take over him (like he's in a trance) and you can SEE that you can FEEL that. It's almost like the music is using his body as an instrument to express itself. His voice is so beautiful and soothing, his movements are mesmerizing, facial expression are downright seductibe (so rude), and despite the fact that all of his songs have very different and unique sounds he still finds this way to still make them all sound like HIM. No matter the style he just makes it all feel very Taemin. He has a way of making everything feel iconic and just timeless as well. He has earned his spot in the legendary lane. Ok, I'm really late to the party but I'd love to talk about the meaning of the song for me. The lyrics are heavily inspired by Plato's Allegory of the Cave, and in the context of the song, it means that you maybe feel trapped outside the real world, or aloof from it. The voices and shadows outside the cave, in the real world, are driving you crazy but you can't see them, you can't touch them, you're in limbo. You're apart. Until this person comes along to save you, they're your messiah and they get you out of the numbness. But now you're no longer aloof, or numb, now you belong, you feel joy but you also feel pain. You can go from Heaven to Hell in an instant, so we see Taemin with fire behind him AND in the literal sky, surrendered by people dressed as basically angels. Your idea, your messiah saved you, but they also killed you (softly).

It's funny though, because when he was younger people would tell him he didn't have a great singing voice, like his voice was not made for singing. Yet what people love about him is his distinct soft-yet powerful voice. I'm glad he proved them all wrong. He's like one of the most respected solo artists and dancers in K-Pop.
