So many KZbinrs have drank the kool-aid and it’s disappointing to see people I respected giving glowing reviews to this company. Thank you for the honesty, it’s so refreshing! Oh and please, no need to enter me in your giveaway but thanks for being generous enough to give it away to someone who will use it!

I’ve thought that box sucked nice day one. I’ve never bought it but watch all the unboxings of it and laugh everytime. I’ve only seen one positive review and I was shocked that that person gave it a good review…just because it was provided free to them. Nope, free or not it was the worst box I’ve seen to date. Thanks for the video and the honesty.

I canceled my box after receiving my first box. I told them I thought the fabric was ugly, thin and cheap. like you it took forever to order with all the pop up. and so when I was canceling I told them exactly what I thought. My Fat Quarter Box is 32 dollars a month and has designer quality fabric in it and 2 patterns that have been tested before being released.

I really appreciate the honest review. I was only interested in the animals that are all the "bait and switch" patterns you talk about in the video. Really glad to see someone with quilting experience explain why a kit isn't going to work for my skill level. I would rather know this up front, rather then after I've failed at a new craft. Thanks again!

Thanks for your honesty and truth!! Some quilt stores have curated boxes, but the quality is so poor that I've regretted subscribing and unsubscribing to their boxes. Agree, that the projects are not beginner friendly. I've been quilting 40+ years so I feel I am justified in stating that. So many ads are false and misleading. Thank you again for posting this informational video.

Good to know this information. I have wondered about these types of things. Honestly, I thought they were a little overpriced for some things I've seen when people have shared. I'd rather take your advice. I'm not a beginner, but I think you have wise advice for the beginner. Like you say, a local shop is a good place to look for honest information, that is helpful as well as a quilt guild. There's too many places to get good information and links for good products to purchase. Thank you for the great review.

Definitely!!! Go to your local quilt shop and ask for help!!! I know of small shops here in Iowa that sell kits that they make up themselves and some even create their own patterns! Look and ask! Find one that you like working with and keep on with them. Ask for whatever types of kits and fabrics. They do listen!!

I always surge the raw edges of my fabric before I wash it. I leave the selvages alone because they are sealed already. That way if I am washing several pieces of fabric at the same time, they don’t get tangled because there are no threads on them, the serger seals off the raw edge.

Don’t disagree with everything but not sure what aspect, of the comment something like, won’t learn enough from the series. Glad you washed the fabric. I was afraid too. Never quilted, the subscription box was my first. Learned the techniques needed to make the bloc. When i moved to a commerical quikt pattern, I’ve used the skills taught in box one. I had never seen those vivid cute stuffed animal ads. Nothing like those were shown during the ordering process. So, for those of us not around other quilters or sewers, KZbin the only educational source, the Mrs Quilty Box was a welcome addition. Yes, pissed the white fabric isn’t included. Lucky me, i have white fabric. Old sheets or pillowcase would have been my solution if needed.

Thanks for the review! I did get a Mrs Quilty box on a promo price after seeing a KZbinr open one that had fabrics I thought were really cute, and I actually like several of the fabrics you got in yours too, but my box was all shades of pink and I only liked a few of them. No ruler, no pin cushion, just a teeny tiny tin of tea and maybe a half yard of some sort of trim that I doubt I will ever use. The booklet said some chocolate was included too, but it was missing from my box. I canceled my subscription - the price was too high to risk getting mostly fabrics I didn't care for.

Yeah, quilting is a little tricky like that. So many design styles, any one box wouldn't make all people happy. But maybe a more artistic combination of fabrics, like a coordinating solid or large print.

Awesome review. I joined Mrs Quilty and was very disappointed with the contents sent each month. I'm just starting and figured I could build a little stash. I'm not a print lover. And I never got a useful tool like the ruler. So I ended my membership. I asked if they would ever offer solid fabrics in the boxes and was told not at that time. That ended it for me. I'd rather buy fabric I like vs a little fill in patchwork.

Iv noticed that there is a change in the block / quilt complexity rating I am making a quilt block that has 13 pieces a whole lot of half square match-ups rated as intermediate its more for an experienced quilter. I've seen beginner quilts that are intermediate which can be very discouraging for beginning quilters because they are just beginning and haven't realized the time consumed figuring out the layouts and what it will take to piecing the blocks, getting fabrics together and so on. I am glad you called the quilting queens out who sell these subscription boxes who promise ease and the fabric is expensive, when breaking down cost and a lot of times not a good weight for quilting a quality product Iv been quilting a long time and have figured out the nuances of quilting and garment making so I don't tread on subscription boxes because I don't like being surprised and subsequently disappointed. Love this video!

I reviewed this box and I didn't like it either. In the one I got, all of the projects had you use templates to cut out the fabric. You don't need a template to cut a square or rectangle. It's antiquated and limiting. It's much better to teach people how to use a rotary cutter and ruler. But then if you teach them that, they don't need this box. The boxes I like are Open Gate Quilts and Sew Sampler by fat quarter shop. Maybe everything isn't beginner friendly but it's not scammy and you get what you pay for.

Thank you for your honest review.❤ I bought that yellow ruler off ebay several years ago. I think it came from China direct, and only cost a few dollars. I've seen other Mrs Quilty reviews similar to yours and commenters say the fabric is temu fabric. I've bought fabric direct from temu, it's awful. Then I found out about all the toxic chemicals in their fabrics. Ick. Not sure what to do with it now. After watching a Sew Yeah episode, where they trialled an AI pattern and it FAILED HORRENDOUSLY, total joke, I suspect there is a lot of AI input going on with Mrs Quilty. On a cheerier note, I LOVE that patchwork sewing machine hanging behind you. I'm going to investigate your other video's (this is the first time I've seen you) in the hopes of finding a video of you showing how to make it. Interesting review. I just watched another review of a first Mrs. Quilty box. The way she described it was that in box one you learn some beginning techniques and with each box the techniques become more intermediate until you reach a more advanced level. You do not learn all these techniques in this one box. You make small projects focusing on techniques you will use in your quilting.
@quiltingcurvestudio
@quiltingcurvestudio 2 күн бұрын
The problem with this box is that there is not enough information for a true beginner to be successful, nor are all the supplies provided for the projects. In this box, the first block asks for half square triangles, which any seasoned quilter would caution a beginner to start with because of the distortion that happens while sewing, handling, and pressing. A beginner will not necessarily understand and become discouraged when their project comes out poorly. I appreciate that Mrs. Quilty tried to make a box for new quilters but they missed the mark and in my opinion, need to go back to the drawing board. As I mentioned it takes more practice than 2 or three small projects to learn these skills. If you are a new quilter, check out the links in my description and watch some videos. I believe if you want this box that, in combination with some KZbin videos you can probably figure it out, but you might have a funner time by following along with a KZbin series or asking at your local quilt shop or guild.

I agree with your review Sam. A HST is definitely not for beginners. Even the pieced rectangle between the HST could be difficult for a beginner to piece accurately. A simple Nine Patch would have been a good beginning. To add this type of content occasionally to your weekly videos would be interesting and educational but I do prefer your quilting videos. Thanks for sharing.

As a quilter & someone who came to quilting … I blame Jenny Doan at Missouri Star, having learned to sew from a seamstress grandmother who never quilted a day in her life, those crazy looking stuffies are completely achievable but they take a ton of sewing work that a beginner would not be able to do. Quilter or otherwise, those are dollmaking skills but … I digress. If you want a great quilt subscription box you should try Fat Quarter Shop. They do a great on that isn’t too expensive $30.00 bucks I think before shipping. It will have fabric for a project but not the compete amount, you get fat quarters, charm packs or a specially curated jelly roll. You will need to supply any remaining for the project. There is usually a block of the month card for people to use with their stash, and some great gadgets. I will say you don’t need a sewing machine to put a block together. It’s one of the things you said that my gran would have gotten so riled up by. She always told me, “You have to learn to sew with a needle before you touch a machine. Machines require maintenance and when that happens, if you want to sew or continue the process, are you going to wait?” Sew … a block doesn’t require a machine to be put together, just a needle and thread. Trust me. Lots of women made quilts & clothing without a sewing machine.

I have subscribed to several different of these "boxes" at different price points and have not found one yet that I was really excited. I have a shelf of stuff that I won't use. Better off finding a quilt kit for one project.

The 'chemicals' that you mentioned in the fabrics as received are sizings/starches that are part of the manufacturing process. All fabrics should be washed before using.

I tried a trial box of Mrs Quilty 2 years ago. Was not impressed, didn't do the project and the fabric went into the cheap fabric pile to make a practice blocks for a new patterns to try. I still have the wrist pin cushion, not on my wrist, but hanging by my design board, for when I need a pin.

I’ve seen ads for that company but shy away in general from kits like this because I like to know I get the most bang for my buck. As far as the AI advertising, that’s embarrassing for them, and the fact that they didn’t clarify that the AI pics were not a real representation of their pattern is unconscionable. I don’t like lies, but shame on them for not setting the record straight. That’s dirty business practices. 🤬

I cancelled after two months. Not impressed. I didn't want to pay for rulers and other notions I already have. I DID want the project information, but my choices were either: 1. Fabric only (no instructions or 2. Everything, so I'd have to buy stuff I already own. The fabric was meh.

I think these subscription boxes must all have some powerful marketers because I don't remember seeing so many videos about these before this last year. It's crazy. I know I get tired of being sold stuff when I watch a video and when I know they got the box for free, it just turns me off and I don't watch.

@@quiltingcurvestudio They must be doing a great job because I've seen quite a few smallish You Tube channels showing them - and once I realized they were sent them for free....I didn't watch. I didn't think they could do a very good job of really critiquing them when theygot the product as a gift just to advertise. I've actually been surprised so many quilters would spend their money on them since money is supposedly tight and when you buy a box like this, you have to take what they send you and not what you actually need. It's great for people who want a surprise every month but not if money is tight.

@beckypetersen2680 Absolutely 💯. So many folks are struggling financially. Quilting can be extremely expensive, and this box is totally misleading people to believe that it's affordable and that they are getting what they need to make an entire project! Ugh I get so worked up with all these scammers!

My first box i immediately canceled the rest. The fabric was so thin I could see my fingers through it. And it was an awful purple shade throughout. It was the third pinchushion id received in boxes that month! It wasn't my jam. Now I see all their influen erst talking about the quality fabric and am like... nah!

Good morning & happy Thursday! Well, this is a shame. I saw two videos recently where Mrs Quilty sent a box to the channel specifically for them to review, and it appears that that particular box (they both got the same one) was - let's say it was "fluffed" a little. It came with a nice set of pins rather than the pincushion (which personally I think is butt-ugly and too big for a wrist pincushion), and instead of the two identical fat quarter bundles, it was a nicely curated set of twelve different prints. One person's box came with a card correcting some errors in the patterns; if the other person's box had that, she didn't mention it, although she did make the pot holder and said she it was easy to make & had no issues in the process. I really thought the company had listened to the feedback and made some good improvements, but now I'm not so sure. I'm alarmed by how ratty the dried fabrics are! Sure, you're going to get a goodly amount of fraying, but that is ridiculous! I am surprised that they didn't shrink more than they did, so yeah I'll give them kudos for that. They may not be the best quality, but I've seen worse & I'm sure there are folks who would adore the floral prints (I am not one of them; please do not include my name in your giveaway as it would be wasted. Let the packet go to someone who loves them.) I hadn't seen those advertisements before, and my flabber is gasted. That is out-and-out false advertising. Even if those patterns existed, there's no way anyone who wasn't a master sewist would be able to make them. And the cat pattern they did release? It looks like they didn't use enough stuffing in their sample photo; either that, or the pieces don't fit together well because I definitely see some wrinkles/puckering near the neck & tail. BTW, I have that particular 6-1/2" ruler, and yes, the 1/8" lines are annoying as all get-out. That being said, it's very sturdy & I use it all the time, especially if I'm squaring up 5" blocks. Thank you for your thorough and honest review. Also PS, I love the sewing machine quilt you have hanging on the wall there :-)
