You buy Segway for the reliability. These things are like the Honda Civics or Toyota Camry's of the e-scooter space. Yeah, their top speed isn't the best, but you can treat it like trash and it will survive.
@eRideHero

Very true - particularly with the G models (G30LP, G30P, G2) and higher end GT models. Some of the really cheap entry-level models are a bit questionable, but that goes for the entire industry at those price points. G models are truly the most dependable below $1K.

As someone who's pretty new into scooters and spent good month googling and reviewing them before deciding to buy one, it would say G2 max is definitely there at the very top of peak purchase. Other cheaper variants usually have worse suspensions, which might not be a big issue if you have clear and no holes road, but if you try good suspension vs mediocre one, there's massive difference on every little bump.
@ChoJun69
@ChoJun69 4 ай бұрын
@johnsysays depends where you live since some countries have different tax values and price jumps around. My g2 cost me 720euros for example. Anything of dual motor+suspension instantly +1.1-1.2k euros. G2 is definitely at the top for quality purchases under $1000, although after riding it for a while, i wish it had 48v battery so it wouldnt slow down when going lower battery %, the only negative of G2 for me atm.

I'm surprised all your range tests show the G30P as better like if they RideyLong is just marketing. I've used a G30P for last 3 summer and this summer I should be riding a MAX G2 and was expecting to do a little better. I have a few runs I regularly do so I should be able to quickly compare.
@eRideHero
@eRideHero 10 ай бұрын
Yeah I was too! That's why real tests speak volumes more than marketing and specs. Do keep in mind that speed test #1 I held a higher avg speed than the G30P test, so it makes sense it doesn't go as far. RideyLong is nice, but isn't really a game changer. Overall, they have been able to offset some of the added weight with a more optimized powertrain, though.

Great review. I asked you the same question on an older reddit post, so apologies for the harassment, but do you prefer this scooter or the KQi3 Max? I am struggling with the decision. I am leaning towards the G2 but am concerned at the performance drop-off and the long term reliability of the battery.
@eRideHero
@eRideHero 10 ай бұрын
Thanks! I saw - it's a tough choice, honestly. Got a long commute or like to get there quick? KQi3 Max. Hills? KQi3 Max (cuz of 48V). Got rough roads on your commute? G2. Rarely break 20 MPH (or have no intention to)? G2. G2 is the most comfortable, but the KQi3 Max is the more capable in performance. Admittedly, the G2 feels better until you hit 50% battery ish, then it leaves me longing for the power retention of the KQI3 Max. Hope that helps, and it's no harassment at all - I'm happy to help. If you end up with any of these, you can always support future reviews (e.g. the new suspension models from NIU) with affiliate links in the description. I have a full video coming on the KQi3 Max, by the way - but most points can be found in my written review on eridehero.com

What I can figure out of this video is that Niu kqi300x series is an upgrade on this scooter. 500/1000 watt motor, 2kg less in weight, 48 volt, 10.5 inches tubeless tyre, and finally a dual-tube hydraulic suspension (at least in the front if not in the rear) collectively makes NiuKqi300X an upgrade over the Segway Max g2. Do you agree?
@eRideHero
@eRideHero 8 ай бұрын
It does look like it on paper, but it is too early to tell. It needs to stand the test of time like the Max G2 did, but all I can say is I am really excited to test the 300X and on paper it looks like a game-changer. Hopefully I receive mine in a couple of weeks. Specs do look better (apart from no rear suspension, but I imagine it'll be the better choice in most cases if it holds up well)

Thanks, Wahid! My two cents: - If you live in an area with somewhat steep hills, go with the KQi3 Max. It's cheaper and has a bit more power. - If you live in an area with moderate hills and don't really care for the extra oomph of having 48V, but would be happy to pay a bit extra for superior ride quality, go with the G2. The G2 is more comfortable, but the KQi3 Max offers more performance relative to price.

That said, weight is another issue because Segway model is 24 kg and the stated NIU model is 22 kg haha. I have now decided NiuKQi Air X which is made up of carbon fiber and is only 11.7 kg but that is too much expensive despite the fact that there are no suspensions either. You're welcome. I think the 300X will be good, but it always take some time for reviews and feedback from people to come in to judge its reliability. I actually just tested the NIU KQi Air - I uploaded a review on my channel. I can highly recommend it - it's the most comfortable ultra light scooter I've tested. You live in EU? In that case, both Segway and NIU will be locked to 25 KMH, so you likely won't feel a big difference between 36V and 48V

Yes, if road conditions are good in your area, you don't really need suspension when you've got air tires. Also, I'd go with the regular Air over the Air X - they're only 200 grams apart in weight but the X is notably more expensive

I'm between this and a Segway GT2 super scooter. My commute is about 1.8 miles. I want something that can fold easily so I can carry it inside, but don't mind walking it a bit. If anyone has any insight, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The GT2 is awesome in its own right but it the opposite of portable. Unless you plan on adrenaline recreation, the G2 will serve you better. The GT2's folding point is quite high up on the stem, so it's both awkward and heavy to carry.

Exactly - feel free to use my affiliate link in the description for the G2 if you feel like supporting the channel. 🙌 Take it from someone who has scooters in all weight/performance classes. If I need to do a 2-mile trip, I don't pick a dual motor beast - it's simply too heavy and unhandy. Overkill. For weekend joyrides, it's a different story though. 😂

I'd still go for the G2. Very city-capable and good range, with the possibility of upgrading down the line. Depends on the road infrastructure in your city also I guess. I personally wouldn't be able to hit anywhere near top speed on my GT2 here in Denmark, but it may be different for you if you have long stretches with little traffic.

@eRideHero
@eRideHero 2 ай бұрын
You don't necessarily need dual motors for hill climbing. As long as you go 48V, 52V and at least 500W (or above) a single powerful motor can push you up most hills. The Inmotion Climber fits the bill for that within your budget perfectly though. Still, even the NIU KQi 300X easily does 20% inclines and that's just 48V 500W rear. Thanks for watching and hope it helps.

I would start my figuring out how steep the inclines are where you plan to ride. There are some online tools that should be able to show percentage or degrees. At 80 kg I felt that the 17% was the maximum it could handle. At 100 kg, I think you'll be good up to 13-14%. It's definitely one of the better climbers in its class. The KQi3 Max (I have a full review with hill tests on my website) may just beat it by a hair.
@josue.0
@josue.0 11 ай бұрын
hi, you mention it struggles on 15% hills, but (around 2:42) the video shows the scooter on a hill of around 25% (which is ~14 degrees), maybe you meant 15 degrees instead of 15%? Also I would like to know the speed on that hill shown in the video as I plan to climb a similar one in my usual travels 🙏
@eRideHero
@eRideHero 11 ай бұрын
That incline peaks at around 17-18% and avg speed crawls down to about 6 KMH (≈4 MPH). I think Segway has some smart firmware that kicks in on hills, you sort of feel that the scooter won't make it when you first hit the hill but then kicks in some momentum. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

The weight is definitely a deal-breaker for some. I'd say it is well-warranted with the excellent suspension, beefed up dimensions and overall heavy-duty build, but on smooth roads there are alternatives models like the KQi3's and Horizon will deliver a similar riding experience at a lower weight. Thanks for watching.

The stem latch angle of the G2 Max is too obsolete and awkward, making portability near impossible not to mention there are too many complaints coming out about its leaking front suspension, The Apollo City Pro 2023 would even be more portable due to its centered stem attachment despite being 12 pounds heavier and is an excellent alternative if car replacement and long range is priority. The best alternatives with a similar price would be the Apollo Air or the new Go. Both have slightly lower ranges but make up by being far more portable and lightweight, especially the latter.
@eRideHero
@eRideHero 11 ай бұрын
Hard disagree. The folding mechanism is good, and it is absolutely not near impossible to carry (hardly makes a difference in fact). Although a centered stem is objectively better, it's not a big deal. As an owner of the City Pro 2023, the City is nowhere near as portable as the G2 Max. You have to tediously bend down to pull up the hook (and set it in the right position) for the latch to properly get into place. I get where you're coming from, though - the NIU click-release mechanisms are definitely better.
@chaxologist2024
@chaxologist2024 11 ай бұрын
@@eRideHero Yeah. What I meant by portability being near impossible for the G2 is storing it in tight places without the handlebar sticking out and proding at people especially in public transit. This could be a safety hazard and will potentially lead to disputes or altercations due to this design flaw. I actually prefer the Segway F2 Pro's opposite angled stem latch configuration because I am right handed carry and left hand support hold on the folded bar as most people are right handed to which I can fit my entire body width within the entire handlebar width. I carry the scooter back-facing forward because it enables me (and most people) to be able to carry by the stem with their dominant hand and the handlebar with their non-dominant hand for support. This way of carrying makes it extremely easy to guide and dictate where the sticking handlebar can be safely stored without it causing a hassle. That also gives me the advantage of safely tucking almost the entire width of the handlebar under or between seats so that the remainder sticking out is very narrow that people won't trip on them or cause altercations unlike the G2's or even G30P's opposite angle configuration! Technically, the Apollo Go will be the best alternative/reliable choice to the G2 Max if similar range, required portability for public transit is needed and Apollo City for longer range and more streamlined latch angle.
