WOW. What a milestone. Tour and workshop owner Greg Yager takes you through bike set up and aftermarket parts and accessories that have worked for our bikes and some that have not over the past 300,000km's of tough Aussie bush riding. If you have any questions regarding this or any other video please drop a comment below or reach out to us via our social media pages. We wish to thank our amazing supporters and sponsors Yamaha Motor Australia, Teknik Motorsports, Polisport Handguards, Adventure Moto Australia, Rival Ink, Pirelli Australia, Funnel Web and all our valued customers and supporters. Thanks Greg for all your content over the years. Just getting ready to put my 990 to pasture and will likely move to the T7 so your info has been invaluable. Been running in the backcountry here in the US for years and can't agree more regarding your proper GPS advice. I run a Montana mounted to the bike and a SPOT connected to me and would do it no other way. Speaking of Montana and FWIW, if people are trying to power their Montana with just a straight USB cable (not the docking cradle) and are having problems. Leave a reply and I'll point you to a cheap cable wired to enable just power. Thanks again and cheers from them mountains and deserts of Utah.

From experience tail tidy’s are a bling item that people think look great but don’t really function off-road. Every tail tidy we tried just let the mud get all up your back. People say the standard one will break off-road yet we have more miles than anyone off-road and haven’t had a single one fail in anyway. I’ve seen more than one tail tidy with a rubber flap or plastic piece attached to keep the mud off the rider and that looks shit. Just a preference but thats why

Sir, You hit the nail on the head at 45:08 to 45:45!! As for me I want the most comfortable suspension as possible for long days in the saddle. This means a combination of highway and dirt roads. I have a Beta 498 for the "hard core" trails. You are setting up these bikes really well. If i ever make it to your country I'll be hitting you up for some travel. BTW, I'm a SPOT fan as well and keep mine on my body when off road traveling.

Great video and info guys!! What are your insights for replacing/upgrading rims? I recently put a large dent in my front rim on a Tassie trip. I see you can get complete wheel replacements. Do you have insights into new rims/wheels and if some rims are stronger than others? Also would you keep the same dimension rims as stock (this is also something that may be a personal preference I guess)? Thanks, Ben.

Question. Towards the end of the video I noticed that there is significant clearance between your front brake lever and the polisport hand guards. I currently run the Yamaha adjustable levers and barkbusters and find the clearance for my reach to be minimal to the point the lever has rubbed on the barkbuster bracket. Is there any extra clearance in the polisport guards?

Very thorough and insightful review of your T7 fleet and what products you have been using. Have you had to replace fuel pump filters on any of your bikes? Just wondering how tolerant the fuel system is to suspect fuel and dirt due to riding in dusty conditions.
@rideadvtoursandworkshop3178

In the last 11 years of running Yamaha’s, be they XT660Zs, WR450Fs, WR250Rs, XT1200’s and now Tenere 700’s we have NEVER replaced a fuel pump, fuel filter or had any fuel problem at all, not a single problem. If we have done 300,000kms in 3 years through COVID imagine how many kms we did in the 8 years before, not a single fuel issue.

First of all, thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences with a lot of parts of the T7! Greatly appreciate the no nonsense and straight to the point insights, especially about the mirrors, tail tidy and suspension. As you said, it’s all about how you ride your bike and not what others can do with it. One question I would have is about the engine longevity, I have done around 45k km (12k km off-road) on my T7 and had absolutely no hick ups while sticking to the normal Yamaha service Intervalls. What mileage do your bikes have and at what point do you think the engine needs some kind of rebuild\overhaul. Bonus question: do you know what the lightest exhaust (end pipe) is for the T7? Thank you again and all the best from Germany 🇩🇪 ✌🏻

"I'd rather slam my gentleman parts in car door than run the Camel Enduro bend exhaust". LMAO! Greg, you crack me up. I'm with you, I love the rally sweep, the enduro just isn't my style. However, the two versions sell about 1:1 so it seems to be a love-it-or-hate-it situation. Great video as always. Looking forward to seeing you in May.

Thanks you so much for taking the time to make such a thorough insightful video! I'm a new rider and people are very kind to talk with me and answer my questions. However, I always feel bad taking too much of their time, just for information, when I'm not ready to buy. I honestly saw the length of this video and thought I'd skip through it, BUT you have so much first hand experience and years of riding that it made ever minute worth my time to watch it. (And your whimsical personality, is so funny :) I could never get this level of detail just asking "motorcycle guys" my questions and you even went over things I never even considered! I feel like I just hung out with you in your garage and picked your brain for an hour, and now I owe you a six pack of Great Northern! Cheers, from San Diego, CA-

This video series is sensational! You mentioned front brakes but didn't get to it. I've found the power inadequate and the lever goes soft really quick needing a bleed every few thousand kms. Swapped to sintered pads for a slight improvement in bite. Considering braided lines or a master cylinder upgrade. Thoughts or experiences?

Hi, never had a probelm with the standard front brakes, run standard pads, fluid and lines. 1 finger braking everyday and work awesome, cant recall anyone having a problem. BTW as a rule sintered pads have less bite

The Garmin it's reliable but we have 2 in case of one fails... How long did the zumo XT on battery? M8 appreciate the video, but too much contradiction on the beginning, DMD2 in this state it's not a navigation software, it's just for route navigation , you have others to do that. But nice input anyway.
@rideadvtoursandworkshop3178
@rideadvtoursandworkshop3178 Жыл бұрын
Hi Mario go back and listen to it. You got it wrong mate. I didn’t talk about the XT battery I talked about the Samsung tablet battery. We don’t run two units in case one fails we run to so we have back up data. Also, my problem with the DMD2 it doesn’t have navigation software, although the new version does.
@MLeitao
@MLeitao Жыл бұрын
@@rideadvtoursandworkshop3178 no M8 I know the zumo don't have battery, so I don't see a problem with the Samsung always connected, it's the same. I can understand preferences, if you like the Garmin it's your choice, but the things you mention to choose a Garmin instead of a rugged tablet or rugged phone in my pov, were not accurate, there's allot of potential on some navigation software like Osmand, DMD2 will get there, and you can always use a tablet as a roadbook. In the future you can always install DMD2 on the Garmin Thread series, but only on the 8' model and up. If they are collaborating with the DMD2 dev it's because they saw potential on the app.

In regards to the pre unifilter that goes on the snorkel. I contact unifilter and sent photos of the filter rubbing through on that plastic guard under the tank. IMO unifilter just use a generic filter off the shelf that happen to fit over the snorkel. Asked them to consider designing a pre filter directly for the T7. Their reply was they would take a look which is code for get lost. What I did was shorten the spring and filter length which now stops the filter contacting the plastic guard. All good so fair.
