If Sonos Bar and Playbase has hdmi arc I will not mind that price. But for now the beam is worth the value for the sound.

I love how you compare 2 play 5s at a retail value of 1k to a beam at $399. Such a biased comparison. Obviously a seperates person.

I don't think it's intended for people who can't afford it. It's also not intended to compete with the higher level Sonos products. You know you can adjust the bass and treble in the Sonos app, right? And use Trueplay to dial it in to the room it's in. It also integrates with other Sonos products which nobody else does. There might be better sounding soundbars but they won't work with your Sonos speakers. I bought one because I live in an apartment and I didn't want to piss off my neighbors. I also didn't want to add more random speakers to my living room and I definitely didn't want or need another remote laying around gathering dust. It's not going to rattle the windows but so far I'm digging it. It's got potential. My main complaint is that it needs more inputs. Sonos has been pretty stingy with those over the years. I wasn't even familiar with ARC before the Beam came out, luckily my TV does have it.

That is not a fair comparison during your test. Not even the Playbar or Playbase could come close to the sound of a Play5. I wouldn't expect the lower costing Beam to best it either. The main objective with this device is to get your Sonos system connected to your TV without spending $700.00. I think it does this pretty well if you have a current model TV.

Sonos will probably sell a lot of the Beam because of the Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant (eventually) integration. The sound quality may not be as good, but you are probably not getting it for the sound quality. A smart soundbar device that controls them all; I don't have to buy an echo, a google home, and home pod + a sound bar. That in itself is a strong value proposition.

Listened to a demo of the Playbar and Beam in a shop. The Playbar is far superior. I’ve a feeling Sonos will update the Playbar when HDMI 2.1 is on TV’s in 2019. Possibly the Beam is similar in quality to other soundbars in its price range. Very little bass and it doesn’t sound great playing music. Maybe with the sub it would sound much better.

Hi, thx for the video. Does the beam sound bad with two Play1? What would you recommend to buy: a playbar or beam and play 1 x2? Price is pretty the same.

Mateusz Balcerzak Playbar, the musical expierence great and you can always choose to expand the system further if you wish

I really heavily disagree with the point you make about it being a great idea to always pickup a Playbar over a Beam. When I get on my PC at home I'll reply.
