bought one for myself; have used it for road and mountain biking; I designed my own third person mount and 3d printed them for each bike; best video quality are bright, sunny days. I'm an average old man cyclist, so I'm not looking for big air or fast sprints - I want to preserve life and limb. My video capture settings are: -1 EV, Flat color profile, and low sharpness so that I can edit to my liking in FCP X. I pretty much have the same assessments as yours. Supposedly GoPro has their Max 2 in the works - been waiting for that!
Thanks for the honest regular user examples, it's good to see how these work out in the real world

New resolution: Determine the Original Resolution:Find the original resolution of your 360 footage. Common resolutions for 360 videos include 4K (3840x1920), 5.7K (5760x2880), 8K (7680x3840), etc.Understand the Field of View (FOV):360-degree videos cover the entire sphere around the camera. When you crop, you're effectively choosing a smaller FOV. Common crops might be to a standard HD (1920x1080), 4K (3840x2160) or other resolutions.Calculate the New FOV:Decide on the new FOV after cropping. For example, if you're cropping to a 16:9 aspect ratio frame, and you want to focus on a specific region, determine the horizontal and vertical degrees of the new FOV.Example: Cropping to a 90-degree horizontal FOV from a 360-degree original footage.Resolution Scaling:Determine the scaling factor based on the new FOV.For a 90-degree horizontal crop from 360 degrees, the scaling factor for the width is 360/90 = 4. This means you are using 1/4 of the original width resolution.Calculate the New Resolution:Apply the scaling factor to both the width and the height.Example: For an original 8K resolution (7680x3840):New width: 7680 / 4 = 1920New height: 3840 / 4 = 960So, if you crop a 90-degree horizontal FOV from an 8K 360-degree footage, the new resolution would be approximately 1920x960.

Nice! Yea thought about that, but there’s some losses due to stitching as well. Seems like it’d be easy to incorporate this metric into the desktop app
@Whoadayson2 ай бұрын
The explanation is nice of you, and Im sure its much less complicated/involved to someone who deals with editing or videography on a somewhat normal basis, but this explanation just made me thoroughly understand just how useful an 'adjusted resolution' metric would be, even if just an estimate, being onscreen during your cropping! It cant be that difficult for SW to calc that on the fly... My brain is another story 🤦♂

if the camera is set on a mount that's hard to get to once set up is there a way to remotely start and stop recordings or do you have to phicicly press the camera buttons?

Came across your video while searching for this camera . You were very thorough about explaining the camera. Kindly tell me if 360x4 would be better choice if i want yo make car videos like mouting.on hood or on windshield. My two priorities are image stabilization and video quality. Thanks

Are you making sure the stitch lines aren’t in the primary fov? As in don’t point the edge of the camera forward

On some of the trail riding clips, there’s a bit of nd motion blur applied. Too much and it looks weird, but seems that you noticed nonetheless

How big are the biggest files you got from the X4? i would like to run it with a powered selfiestick for up to 4 hours roadtrip with the gps data in 1 file instead of many 30min, like on my X3. Tnx.

Did you try using single lens freeframe mode for MTB ?

Yea it works well, with the ability to somewhat reframe after the fact, but I still prefer the peace of mind to shoot in 360 all the time

Nah. Looks horrible in 1080p on a 4k tv. Reminiscent of 540p or 720p videos from twenty years ago. Blech. Pointless to review x4 over an x3 on this bitrate and compression.

tbh, Insta360 don't really need to sponsor any creator. Just sending them a review unit is more than enough. Because their product is already very decent.
