Have been using these for several years now. Only thing I've found to keep in mind is make sure to attach the mount to the wall high enough that if you lose pressure in your tyre, the mount will still hold the bike. If the rear tyre contacts the ground, the bike can fall out. And in my case damage the paintwork on my car

I started riding this loop with my mtb and recently did it on my trek domane. I’m definitely not as confident taking the descents on the domane 😅

The constant rubbing on my forks because of how close the ratcheting arm needs to be to the fork so it doesn't loosen up is annoying for a $700 bike rack.

I got lucky and found a used set of 4 steady racks for $100 locally. I have them staggered high and low to take up less space. I use my knee on the back of the saddle to lift bikes to the higher ones like you did.

Yeah, those end caps are terrible. One set went on fine, the other had me questioning my manhood. Only other gripe is with the mtb rack. The base plate of the rear tire holder should be wider. When I set the tire on the side in order to swing the bike to the wall, the tire does come into contact with the wall quite a bit. Got a nice black spot on the wall from the tire markings.

I have 8 steady rack mounts, they are fantastic. I have no ramp, but it's still super easy to lift the bike up to the higher mounts.

The swivel is really a nice feature. I've got a similar DIY setup, but it doesn't have that function and it can get tight.

Obviously you've been hanging them from the front wheel for a while but any concerns with damaging the stanchions? Same argument for not using tailgate pads.

These look more carbon-rim friendly than the usual hook solutions too. Beyond the 'scraping' issue of your homebrew setup, some products I've seen put the hook in a place where there's a lot of leverage placed on the rim.

I’m upgrading my wife’s Rockhopper, she has no idea why or how much it will cost. Started with an air fork, 10 speed deore groupset, bb and chainring, lighter tires and better hubs. Breaks are new too. I think now the bike is ready for me, e mean, for her 😊

One other thing that's nice about this design is that you can easily get the bikes closer to the wall. Just pivot them over and they don't stick out as far. We had some in the office and it was nice to not have all the bikes sticking out into the hallway so much. Load up and swing over.

Stack it in the other side of the garage with the other nine 😆 Jk. If you’re referring to the height of the rack, any new bike I’d get with probably be about the same wheel base so it should fit just fine

I was told recently from a bike shop that hanging your bike from the front wheel can allow air to migrate from the disc brake reservoir into the brake lines, I don’t know if this is possible, but it seams plausible. Any thoughts on this theory!
@hansonwang2121
@hansonwang2121 6 күн бұрын
It can happen but it’s only an issue if your brakes have a poor bleed in the first place and you continuously pull the brake levers when the bike is vertical.

1 - Love the ramp, great idea thanks for sharing it 2 - I have dedicated bike hooks, but with my 29+ bikepacking bike it's always a fight to get it onto the hook, between the fat 2.6in tires and wide 50mm jones rims. It works, but it's a pain in the butt. Will have to give one of these a try. I think this will work so much better.

If you're running proper 36cm handlebars on each bike, then you'd fit every one within 16" stud spacing without overlap 👍

We had some at my office that worked with my fendered commuter... JUST. 🙂 I could hear the rack sliding on the inside of the fender. But I never saw any damage. The "ebike" version seems a better answer if you have fenders

I've been using Steady Racks for years and they are solid. I always worried the hook setup would damage/warp the rim in some way if left for too long, and Steady Rack fixes that.

After looking through the comments, it seems that the rd-rx822 pull ratio is not "perfectly" compatible with the road 11-speed levers (r5800, r6800, r7000, r8000, rx600, rx810), but rather "slightly" compatible. The pull ratio is estimated to be around 1.3. It seems to be an ambiguous compatibility where it may work if you set it up right, but may not work if you don't.
