What’s crazy is, that 2D animation in the beginning you were referring to was requested by the director as the only way he’d direct the movie. He also has said he’s extremely open to doing an OG Dragon Ball reboot with modern animation.

God I loved this film. I hope future arcs focus on Gohan, Piccolo, and Broly. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing Gohan and Broly stay above Goku and Vegeta and Piccolo getting powerful enough to surpass Super Saiyan Blue Kaio Ken as right now he's on that level. Goku and Vegeta had 130 episode dedicated to them being the best of the Z fighters. I'm okay with sidelining them or making them the B-team for a while.

I doubt Goku and Vegeta will be sidelined for an extended period of time. All I ask is that Gohan and Piccolo join them and Broly with training on Beerus’s Planet.

The main reason that this film was in CGI, was mainly due to the “unnamed viral sickness” and its affects on the industry in Japan. Toei had its resources stretched thin with other shows trying to catch up with the delayed production, so they decided to do this film in CGI, as they had the staff who could work on a project in that style, rather than a traditional 2D. Whenever the anime/ next movie comes out, it will revert back to the traditional 2D style :)

Actually this whole movie is canon now that their redoing in the manga. It was future arc that basically turned into a film
