Whatever will happen, I just hope that Spider-Verse will win animated feature. As much as I love Disney, not only have they been dominating animation Oscar wins for far too long between Disney themselves and Pixar, Incredibles 2 and Ralph Breaks the Internet may be good films in their own right, but they aren't Spider-Verse.

The Ralph movie was pretty bad. It was one part derivative storyline, one part Emoji Movie, and 5 parts cashing in on all that sweet IP Disney has been collecting for the last decade. It was a completely shameless corporate cash grab. Just thinking about it makes me want to take a bath to wash the slime off. Seriously, it shouldn't have been nominated. We don't have to nominate the Disney film every year there is one people. Let that train wreck slide back into the dingy swamp that birthed that unholy mess of a film.

Roma, The Favorite and, Blackkklansman were the only movies that should've been nominated. Roma was such a clear cut winner. Not sure what they saw in "The Green Book" - maybe we need to start a campaign "Oscars so American" because "Oscars so white" apparently translates into not enough African-Americans. What about Asians countries? The Middle East? Australians? Mexicans? Latin American Countries? Literally, the rest of the world? I can't believe they expect people to believe that in the last hundred years only Americans have been talented actors and still go on with running their absolute bs and being so popular and looked forward to at the same time. Maybe call yourselves the "American Academy Awards".

@@MegiddoTheImmaculate see making money and having the general public's approval does not equal a great movie. When nominated for something like best picture, they take into account everything from the story of the film to the technical side of things and judge whether the movie as a whole should be considered the best movie of the year. What they don't use is how much money the movie makes and whether or not the general public likes the movie. So with that in mind, i think it's safe to say that Black Panther is not the most original of stories nor is it the best executed of stories with many of the visual effects failing to hold up with even some of the other marvel films that have come out in recent years. Hopefully that gives you an idea why most people don't think it belongs in the best picture nominations.

Of those superhero movies listed, only the Dark Knight and Logan deserved best picture nominations (maybe they wouldn't even deserve the win in their years). @duckiedale80 yeah, the amount of Lifetime that they put in the film was unnecessary. Freddie didn't play Live Aid because he had AIDS and wanted to put on the greatest performance of his career. In fact, the band had no idea how that day was going to go for them given the immense technicalities of Live Aid. Also, fabricating a break up to add drama was really dumb.

The last time a best picture winner was the highest grossing film of the year was 2003 (Lord of the Rings) In the time since a number of the best picture winners haven't grossed 100 million dollars at the box office and only two made it over 200 million. The Oscars have had that coffin sealed for a long time.

I think it was really good and arguably worthy for other categories, but yeah, the real problem is twofold, first, because Black Panther is getting it when 3-5 other superior superhero films that deserved it more got snubbed when BP wasn't even the best one this year, and two, because it's all but totally admitted that most people in the Academy don't even like Black Panther and are only voting for because of "muh diversity points," not because they think it deserves the nomination. I want great superhero movies to get nominations, but only because they are actually great and everyone acknowledges that. Black Panther is fairly top 10 in the MCU. I wouldn't even begrudge anyone who felt it was even in their top 5, but literally the only reason it's beimg nominated is because it has a bunch of black actors. They're all good to great actors, but they're not being nominated because they were great. It's nomination by identity, not merit

The Favourite and Roma are probably the only two that absolutely deserve nominations in the list. Vice is very mediocre. Bohemian Rhapsody is honestly pretty bad. Black Panther is an ok superhero movie. Blackkklansman is pretty good; not great though. Green Room is average. A Star is Born is probably 3rd, maybe deserves it but there are better films.

Well, part of the art of film making is telling a story. Infinity war tells a chapter. It doesn't have a definitive ending or beginning. In reality, it's plot is quite simple. A team of people try to stop Thanos from getting all infinity stones. He gets them. Character wise there is little to no development because they are mostly established before the movie. It's amazing what they were able to accomplish but film wise it's not the best choice for an oscar. Black Panther can be justified more because it tells a story with a clear beginning and end, and is a more nuanced story.

I felt conceptually and thematically, Black Panther was a better movie, but it was let down by a weak final act. Infinity War was a good film, but it's hardly my idea of an Oscar contender. The acting and directing was overall solid, but there's nothing as gripping as Logan. Logan may not have deserved to win Best Picture, but it certainly deserved a nomination for best supporting actor/actress at least. There's nothing in Black Panther or Infinity War that really fits any of these categories. They're good movies, even great ones, but I feel Oscar winners need to be profound and push beyond its genre, which neither did.

The one reason why I keep watching is it occasionally provides a platform for under-the-radar movies that deserve more public attention than they'd receive otherwise (like Beasts of the Southern Wild and Amour, for example). Solid reminder Black Panthers costume design, score, world building and acting (Danai, Letitia, Michael B, Chadwick) as well as the artistic design in scenes like the ancestral plane or even the casino’s use of colors in costuming were legitimately incredible and even if the script is comic book predictable at points it’s all the other things that elevate it to excellent.
