Miley is heavily underrated as a singer, sure she is still a media sensation, but her voice is so unique and versatile despite her country-heavy upbringing. Compared to Selena and Demi, she has the most consistently good albums (as Miley not Hannah). But throw in the Hannah-albums, and she's just as consistent. and now that she's gone full 80s rock with her magnificent album Plastic Hearts, she has finally cemented herself as a powerhouse vocalist.

she was touring A LOT and barely got any sleep throughout the years, smoked all night, drank a lot, and just talked extremely much, and that damaged her voice. She was evaluated for tonsillitis and so she went on a surgery November 2019. “and now this is kinda where we’re at”.

Miley had competed worn out her voice by the middle of 2019. She could barely make it through Wrecking Ball. She had to let the audience sing most of the song and her voice was just shot. She short after got emergency vocal surgery and came back with more rasp in her voice and it’s the best I’ve ever heard her. Her refined tone now is so fucking iconic.

Other people already confirmed that she had surgery but, in terms of details, during her interview with Zane Lowe from Apple she mentioned that the surgeon who operated on her cords said that the damage was similar to singers who get that same surgery at 65 or older. Something along those lines. So that's some heavy damage

She did have vocal surgery but in late 2019. She said in an interview her vocal cords were badly damaged from talking and singing too much and it's typically more common in elderly people. She said growing up in her career from a young age, she wasn't taught the care to make sure her vocal cords could last a long time. So she's thankful she could get that fixed and actually understand how to care for her vocal cords.

Miley had Reinke's Edema which started becoming apparent in 2015 around the time when she did that performance that you noted sounded huskier. She talked about it in an interview late last year. All the clips in this video were from before the surgery.
