She didn’t sing live because she simply hasn’t got the confidence in her vocal abilities because she just isn’t a consistent and competent singer. She (and her team) wasn’t about to set herself up for a below par live performance. She’s a great dancer and performer, and she happens to be able to carry a tune occasionally. Beyoncé explained that she didn’t sing live because she didn’t actually have the time to rehearse with the band and didn’t feel comfortable to do so by taking a risk and therefore letting down her country. So that’s why she decided to use her pre-recorded track. This is understandable because usually with huge events like this, as an artist, you don’t know you’re doing it until the last minute literally. I don’t recall Beyoncé’s team saying that but I do remember they said that Yo Yo Ma had to pre record his performance because of the cold weather conditions. Beyoncé later did sing the National Anthem live at her NFL press conference to prove she can do it live.

I'm one of the teen that says that maybe she is not in playback, but I think that when u upload something on youtube, even if you are a master in the field, people can comment the video. Shes still trying, after all these years! I’m Puerto Rican so whenever she performs at an award show, my family and I pay extra close attention so we can pick it apart cause we are music nerds and hard on our own people. One performance in particular we all thought she must’ve had a vocal coach in the past few years cause we heard a huge improvement. Of course, it was probably pre recorded as well.

Jlo is a great dancer but I'd never pay to see her live. She does not have the talent or technique to call herself a singer. It was 100% mimed, the vocals were perfect and not even gaga could do a studio quality 100% perfect vocal. It was also very cold and she hid her throat muscles which would have been a big giveaway. When she did the Spanish part her voice was hoarse and rough but then suddenly it was pure and clean? No.

She works very hard (great work ethic!), I'll give her that, but I don't like much more of her character from what I see and how she carries herself/behaves. That's just my opinion; we all have our own.

Back in the day? Like Millli Vannli and The Monkeys? Why single out the American music industry? When was the last time at the Olympics Ceremonies they had live vocals? Technically the girl singing behind the stage while another girl lip synched on stage at the Beijing Olympics was one of the few times they had live vocals. Japan has vocaloids and many Japanese idols are there solely for looks. Do you think everyone in AKB48 can sing? Eurodance in the 90s was filled to the brim of models lip synching another persons vocals in the music video and in concert. While in the US you had people like Marnie Nixon have decades long NDAs while in India they make it no secret that the person you see in a musical isn't the one singing. There's always been studio trickery. Look up some old live performances and you would be surprised how many people from the 60s,70s and 80s could not sing. And they lip synched back then. I don't know where the Historical revisionism of It lip sync back in the day When you can look at videos from American bandstand, top of the pops and solid gold of rock bands apparently having wireless electric guitars 50 years ago lol. Or look at soul train and a disco song with a whole Orchestra is heard but only a single person is on stage.

It depends. She explained in the video re:Katy Perry’s performance that sometimes people pre-record their vocals when conditions necessitate it. That is understandable. Backup vocals are also understandable and give a better sound to the whole performance. I only have a problem with it when there is no reason for the lip syncing and it’s a studio recording being played!! Like no different than the album tracks? Come on!

Hi Georgina, you confirm what I was thinking from the first instant I watched it "live". Nothing against JLo, but the fade in of the backing track in the beginning and then the difference between her speaking voice en pre-recorded vocals made me roll my eyes. And the comparison with Lady Gaga's sound is noticeable. We all have to be honest she is not one of the best singers, saw her live a couple of times. Shows are great but her vocal "techniques"/capabilities are not my thing. Ok for studio but not live. She looked great and the backing track sounded good but she could have practiced some more and do justice to her name as a "performer". In my opinion she is a better actress and dancer than a singer.

There's never been a time I've seen her sing this perfect with no flaws. A perfectionist like her who's so self absorbed, there is no way she did this. Not reality. Her voice is raspy and wavy when she actually sings or is yelling in Spanish. And for sure the end is autotuned. It's prerecorded and auto tuned so her voice sounds a lot better than it ever has been. Also too many of her early hits were strait up NOT her vocals, but tweaked to sound like her because the original artists sounded similar enough to her, they were nobodies compared to her, she probably thought. I don't think she knew everyone would be able to prove it in the future. ❤

Many times in this type of event, it is a requirement that the performances be pre-recorded, more if it is going to be televised, only to ensure their "perfection". I think it sounded beautiful even if it was lypsinc, Katy's performances could also be pre-recorded, and when people get very aggressive or want to discredit artist because of this, I remind them that even Pavarotti's last live performance was also lypsinc. I don't know the reasons why an artist decides to lypsinc or not, so I don't think about it much I just enjoy them.

Firstly, the whole point of this woman's channel is to critique vocals from an unbiased place, which she does. Secondly, if you precorded an autotuned version or yourself, you would have done "a great job", too. It wasn't horrible, but it also wasn't live, which is what most people expect at such an event.

They turn the mic down while she may very well be singing, but it's not the live voice you hear it's the recording, then they raise the volume back up for her to speak, then back down while the recording plays

She did a very good but let's be honest: the whole performance of hers was lip synced except for the Spanish speaking part, where - due to the audio/mic quality difference - she gave away, that she's not singing live. Not a bad performance though. I don't know if her voice is always that husky but maybe she lip synced cause she's sick at the moment? We will never know.

it’s not live. You can tell because of the reverb on her voice when she is speaking in Spanish. You then hear the brief cutoff of her voice in the recorded before she sings ‘let’s get loud.’

I do think she sang part of it live! Even though I have known her to not be the best of live performance Singer! Mainly because her shows contain normally a lot of dancing performances and JLo simply can't always control her Voice as well, when she's dancing at the same time! As a pretty much everyday practaSING singer of "sorts" i can def tell JLO DEF CAN sing! Its not un-common for singers to have a pre-recorded back up track if their not 100% sure n confident of their vocal abilities and thsts not saying they can't sing bcoz if they really couldnt sing they wuddnt of gotten as far in their careers if that was the case!
