Excellent information. I plan on watching all of them. I'm prepping as much as I can now to one day be a beekeeper.

Thanks, Daniel. There is a ton of information in that crash course, take notes and revisit certain spots if necessary. Of course, feel free to ask any questions you might have, I'm always happy to help.

I found your channel yesterday and have subscribed. LOL you have a scope!! I'm currently trying to talk one of my astro buddies into getting a hive. This might just be all I need. Clear skies at night, bees during the day - what a balance :D

Thanks for the presentation, great info! The fall flow and winter have been almost nonexistent for me. I’ve been feeding in appropriate forms since August. They’ve been blowing through their stores.

Yeah that's a tough situation, and why I try to get everything heavy enough in September regardless of the goldenrod flow. It's tougher some years than others but still way easier than trying to feed through the winter. I feel for ya.

Hi Bret, Last weekend I scraped some burr comb off from between to top of the upper hive frames that went up through my candy board to underneath my Vivaldi board. To my surprise there were day old eggs in it. I removed some with a grafting tool to practice. I don't think there was royal jelly in the cells yet. How long after do the workers put royal jelly in the cells?
@BKBees
@BKBees 5 жыл бұрын
The egg stays as an egg for 3 days and then the workers will start to put royal jelly in the base of the cells. The optimal size for grafting is almost invisible, so I try to pick up only the royal jelly at the bottom of the cell, rather than the larva itself.

@@BKBees Thanks Bret, There was Burr comb with eggs in it and there was no royal jelly in the cells yet. I was using it to practice with. I was able to eventually pickup an egg without jelly in the cell yet. I know you need to get a larva that is shaped like a comma but they didn't hatch yet lol. They queen must have just layed them. Should I be worrying about them brooding up already?
@BKBees
@BKBees 5 жыл бұрын
@@jpthedelawarebeeman6239 no. I'd be surprised if all of my hives didn't have some brood in them at this point. You don't want too much, but it's normal to see some in there after the solstice.

Well done , said before you should think about writing it all down gradually and produce a book "Brett's digest of bees ".

I've been thinking about it more and more lately. For now we'll stick with this sort of thing though, as my opinions and the science of honey bees continues to change year after year.

The audio on this one and the mating and genetics one is way too harsh, I have resolved it for future videos like this. Sorry about that.

@@aaronsanxiety3571 yep, unfortunately I'm 100% aware and always trying to improve. My videography skills are, though, notoriously bad, as this and so many other videos show so clearly, lol.
