Thanks for the video! I'm writing an essay about the ethics and morality of beekeeping and this video helped very much. Love from Peru!

The primary reason for allowing the honey to settle in the settling tank is to allow the air bubbles to rise to the top of the tank,causing a froth to appear on the top of the tank.Also it allows small amounts of wax and other particles to rise to the top of the tank,which are removed prior to bottling. I think the two folks in the video did a great job of explaining what to do and the procedures involved in extracting honey prior to bottling.yes a little oil would have solved the squeaking .

How do you deal with the grease in the bearing in the center of the tank bottom? Does it now pollute the honey? I just bought an extractor and it has a gob of grease in the bottom which seems like poor design?

WD40 exists, just saying that squeak is your parts wearing on each other, lubricant is important for maintenance.

Cant wait. Installed my first nuc this past late April. They've done alright, slow to draw and are currently raising a queen (I might of killed her, not sure) but are doing better with 1:1 feeding. Gonna harvest for the first time in April, when the blackberries start making me sneeze! It's also a time when clover is at it's highest here. Thats gonna be some damn fine honey

Sir do, you got some real nice clean honey there. Do the wax breakthrough due to the weight pressing on it from the opposite side as you spin the honey out? I prefer radial extractor any day this is why I converter my two frames into a 12 frame radial many years ago. Nice of you to show me your honey extraction 🙏🙂👋.

thank you for making this video. we have got some bee hives and i was just wondering does your honey get crystallized and because ours gets crystallized inside the bee hive and when we extract it and put in a bucket after we harvest it gets even worse if this happens to you how do you fix this problem. we would really appreciate it if you could help us. thank you.

Why do you let it sit in the bucket for 24 hours before bottling?
@danielpavan234711 жыл бұрын
To allow any remaining wax chips to rise to the top, also to let bubbles get out.

You might sharpen your knife only on one side so the sharpened edge looks like a chisel and you'll have less of a chance of cutting into the frame.

Awesome video, but man them gears need some oil, I had my headphones in and wow!
@SweetBetsyFarm4 жыл бұрын
Sorry about that, but we barely notice it and prefer not to grease the gears to avoid it getting into our honey

why do you need to wait 24 hrs after straining into bucket before bottling? thanks
@berekdollinger91659 жыл бұрын
Is there a specific reason you need to let it sit 24hrs before bottling? If you go longer or shorter does it change something qualitative in the batch?

In general "stuff" in honey either sinks or floats. The settling tank is arranged so that you draw off honey from the middle of the column of honey thus avoiding the floaties on top or the sinkers at the bottom. It's the right way to do it but some use heat and super fine fliters in the range of 50 microns. That's not the right way but it is what you see at the supermarket on the shelves. At that point it's no longer raw honey but has been "cooked" and possibly pasteurized as well. The USDA has these laws... If you want raw honey with living enzymes in it you'll have to find a beekeeper like me.

Which way to frames go in. Top of Frames inside o the outside

This is a two frame extractor and you flip the frame mid-way so it doesn't matter

Where can i buy this machine
@426superbee410 жыл бұрын
might try a heat gun it melts the capping very fast, these extractor are just to expensive, 200 bucks or more would buy a lot of honey
@MrMerlinMerman10 жыл бұрын
Buying in bulk is the cheapest and a bucket of honey still goes for $150-$200. I get about a bucket per hive annually. Even with just one hive, the extractor will pay for itself pretty quick.

426 SUPER BEE When we started, we found other beekeepers in our area and borrowed an extractor or just extracted ours after they did theirs. Now that we have our own, we let others use it for a small percentage of their honey.

@bcasey1018 жыл бұрын
What do you do with the frames that you extract in the fall as far as storing them for the winter? We live in Michigan so there is only a spring and fall honey crop. Thanks
@bcasey1018 жыл бұрын
thanks for the quick response, just not sure about storing them outside in the Michigan winter.
@SweetBetsyFarm7 жыл бұрын
B Casey, they should be fine. Frozen honey thaws just fine. The important thing is to keep them exposed to light and air to prevent wax moth infestation.

Can't you fit 4 frames in that extractor?
@SweetBetsyFarm6 жыл бұрын
You could fit four shallow frames but we run all mediums so can only do two at a time. It’s okay, we only use that extractor if we have a single odd super to extract or are loaning it out to a new beekeeper for their first harvest.
