Often referred to as Shoestring Root Rot, this fungus frequently attacks stressed or weakened trees.

I found some of these and photographed them on a walk about a month or so ago but didn't realize what they were. Now I do, and when they come back I'll harvest them. Fortunately, I know a couple of experienced mushroom foragers who can verify any new species I add to my repertoire. It's important for me personally to get my mushrooms identified by an actual person and not just rely on photographs and videos. It's for my own piece of mind.

Honey mushrooms are very edible and good

Well they are the bane of landscapes. Very long living, loves to kill most trees planted to replaced old ones especially maples but also birches.

@@haseo8244 yeah that's true. Looking at old logs and stuff you can see how that stuff kills trees. Peeling up the bark of an infected tree, it looks like someone spilled a thick layer of ink on the inside.

honey fungus is edible and good if its the true honey fungus and not the jack lantern fungus
