Thanks again for the great info! Yesterday I became, (after a period of 25 years when I kept several gouramis), the owner of a pair of beautiful honey gouramis. Beautiful, peaceful and graceful fish, just fitting into everything thats positive of holding a community tank without other aggressive fish! Truely the answer for a fish tank to pacify the flossed nerves after a hairy day at work! Yes I too LOVE HONEY GOURAMIS.❤️❤️

Aw, I used to have these in my my bookshelf planted tank, along with some blue endler guppies. Although the ones I had didn't have the black stripe as prominent, and the edges of their fins all faded into a bright red-orange. They looked like little flames floating all around the tank. Unfortunately I lost them to a miscalculation in dosage of an algae remover. I'm guessing it caused a rapid change in pH which led to pH shock :( I hope that one day I get a chance to keep them again.

I bought to two gourami yesterday with a betta and all was fine in the fluval flex 57 planted tank. Today though i see one gourami is being bullied by the other and is hiding all the time. Should i remove the peaceful one to my other community tank? And wud they attack my shrimp?
@jameswalton65514 жыл бұрын
Micky this may be to late but just from research I've done I wouldn't recomend it since shrimp are a natrual prey item for them as far as them not getting along they say each male requies 5-10 gallons of water for terratoriol reasons with the males being more colorful& the females mostly a dull silver color also they need at least 1 female per male!

How do you recommend treating Platies for Columnaris. Some I have are passing away without any evidence of any issues. The ones I have caught showing issues I put them in my quarantine tank and are treating them with Kanaplex and API Furan 2. If anyone can shed any light on this issue I would greatly appreciate it. I have never had any problems and I actually have some rare ones that will be difficult to loose. Rachel I would appreciate any help that you can give me. I have never had this issue before but I scoured the internet and this is the only explanation that fits everything I have seen. I made a purchase at a big box pet store and they looked fine but they were the first to go. But I promise quarantine will be followed in my home from now on. I have Platies and a Nerite snails only in this 40 gallon tank. Please help me save all I have left.

when i was hanging out at the fish store earlier i was playing with the honey gouramis if i'd point to a spot on the tank they'd swim up to my finger and like high five me with their pectoral fins i fell in love i already thought they were pretty but oh my god they're so interactive and adorable too! can't decide whether to get one with a school of glowlight tetras and some corys or just get a group of gouramis... also, out of interest - can you keep different (small) gourami species together in a group? like say one honey, one dwarf, one sparkling or whatever? or would they get sad?
@dynestis28754 жыл бұрын
I'd personally only keep either Honey Gouramis together with other Honey Gouramis. Dwarf Gouramis are a little bigger and more agressive and might outcompete your Honey for food.

Do they need a low acidic ph or can they live in hard water? My ph from the tap water is around 7.5. I live in California, Los Angeles. I would love to keep honey gourami's! How much did they cost? If they are $10 or less, I can get them. I need to save up money for my upcoming flowerhorn which is $150.

Rachel O'leary Well I want them to thrive not survive so I think I am not going to get them until I get some driftwood and indian almond leave tannins to help make the water acidic. Hopefully my local pet store sells them for $10 or less.

Jason Guan I live in Los Angeles and I have a pair of yellow honey gouramis in my planted 10 gallon. Hello Rachel, i just bought a male honey gourami a couple of days ago, to keep my female dwarf gourami company in my planted tank. I have other nano species in there aswell. I dont usually believe everything i read on the internet, but i value your opinion. I red that honey gouramis need a big planted tank, with lots of places to explore as they get bored very easy. Is it true they can get depressed?. I know its early days, an my gourami still has to get use to the tank and the other fish. How long would it take for mine to color up? I hope he is happy in there or i'll feel sad.
@JustABoy9236 жыл бұрын
Hi Rachel. I got a couple Honey Dwarf Gourami about half an year ago from a LFS here in London. I thought I'm buying F+M but looks like it's two boys. The smaller but more colourful one started harassing the bigger paler one so I split them. A month ago I got a girl from a tank labeled female dwarf gourami. She's grey/striped in colour but similar size and slightly more triangle shape. Anyways. Yesterday when changing the water I decided to put them all three together in my bigger heavily planted tank. They were good at first - it was the girl being feisty if anyone at all. Today, however, they seem to be back to the chase. The tank is really heavily planted so the chases are quite quick and it's actually lot's of hiding, which is interesting to observe. I'm still a bit worried though. Shall I remove one of the boys or if I remove 6-7 teenage (all the) platy maybe I can fit 2 more dwarf gourami girls? Then would five be a good number - 2 boys x 3 girls? And does it matter if the girls are different colours? It's not s huge tank tho - 64 litre cube - heavily planted with layers of plants and rocks, also have photos dipped and it grows like crazy - does magic for the filtration :) . Thanks!

i have one 1.5" male at present, in compamy with cardinals, oto's, marbled hatchets, whiptail catfish, a bamboo shrimp, amano's, juvenile harlequins who move like lightening at feed time and two siamese algae eaters that have grown from 0.75" to 2.5" in just 2 months they arw obsessed with chasing each other at high speed, the point being the gourami takes not one scrap of notice and does a fair bit of algae eating to boot. one of the sae's will have to go i think before they fet much bigger, but at present they all seem to rub along quite nicely. thank you for the sexing advice, i hall be loking for females now, gourami's that is.
