I think about this all the time. Honey I shrunk the kids is one of the most fascinating movies ever. I always think of how terrifying it would be, being that small. I've even Googled it. Giant insects, very loud noises, giant humans, birds, dogs, cats, vacuum cleaner, rain, snow, wind, dust, cracks in floors, at night you'd be so small there would probably be no light to help you see, no one can see or hear you. I love thinking of this stuff.

I know that this was released in 1989 but, ironically, I think it takes place in 1985. I made this conclusion because of the two sequels. I Blew up the kid is three years after this one to fit in Adam’s birth. It has been stated that Adam is 10 in We Shrunk Ourselves, which takes place in 1996. So my timeline for the individual movies is 1985, 1988, and 1996.

Me: You know what the most unrealistic thing about these credits are? “Is it the sturdy paper airplane thats made out of soft newspaper material?” Me: No. “The fly having an abnormal amount of eyes?” No. “A record needle having incredible javelin strength?” Me: a Contender, but no. “The vacuum cleaner operating on its own?” Me: Almost. “A levitating pencil being completely consumed by the sharpener, rubber eraser and metal ring included?” Me: Nope. It’s the postage stamp being only one cent.

Fun fact: the animation studio who did this sequence also made Bobby's world.

The use of animation in the intro is to give the impression that movie would be more of a live action cartoon, and it'd be easier to suspend the disbelief. Sort of why George Lucas wanted an episode of 'Duck Dodgers' to be screened before the opening of 'A New Hope'. He never got to because he didn't have the rights, but the movie's reception proved he never need it anyway. I do wished that the 'Ant-Man' movies had something like this.

If this song sounds familiar, it’s likely because it bares more than a passing resemblance to Raymond Scott’s “Powerhouse”, which most people recognize as that song used in numerous factory scenes in Looney Tunes shorts. The similarities were enough that Scott’s estate sued Disney for copyright infringement, and Disney eventually settled out of court.

Art element: This title sequence used 3d computer animation, 2d hand drawn animation, and paint. The animated scenes represent the story of this movie. The title, names of the stars, paper airplane, the vacuum cleaner, fly swatter, dog collar, stamp presser, the stick of a record player, pencil, typewriter, desk, stamp, letter, and mailbox are in 3d animation. The style looks weird and goofy It was designed by Kroyer Films

The first time I watched this movie, I thought at first that was an animated movie because the title sequence is animated and the plot wasn't literal about characters who being shrunk as shown in the title sequence.
