Gala apples are the best. They are my favorite apples. Not do they just taste so good and refreshing (especially when you keep them cold in the fridge) but when you bite into them, it's so crunchy and gives you a beautiful bite. Gala apples can have bruises on them but most likey they don't carry bruises. Everytime I get some Gala apples at the grocery stores, I always feel like they are kept in good care, because I don't see any damages on them and they just look so delicious so i would have to buy at least 10 apples. They are pretty cheap, like 97 cent depending what store you get them. There's a gas station called kwik trip and you can get one for 59 cent. Not bad at all!

Below is the only way I ever eat apples because I don't really like them that much but 2 Honey Crisp apples with some sharp cheese and crackers with Guldens' spicey mustard and a glass of chablis or zinfandel is my favorite lunch. But I am flexible on the variety of apple and the brand of crackers. I also seldom drink wine or eat cheddar cheese without the other 2 parts of my 3 piece ensemble. I always slice the apples into thin sections before I begin. This is my lunch 2-3 times a week. It surprises me sometimes how much the taste of one fruit or vegetable can be enhanced by what other things you eat them with. WRZ Delaware County, PA metro-Philadelphia

Greetings from Nova Scotia, Canada where there any number of apple varieties. My favourite eating fresh apple is surely the honey crisp!!! My favourite apple for dehydrating however is the gala! Sprinkle some cinnamon sugar on the slices and dehydrate for 12 hours and it is just sooooo tasty. And they keep in an airtight bag/container for at least a year assuming they don't get eaten in a few days. I usually dehydrate 40lbs but they never make it to even Christmas!

That was in interesting idea to review apples. I really enjoyed it. It is great that there are so many different sorts of apples out there, so you can enjoy the whole range of flavours. Both Gala and Honey Crisp are good and there are a lot more nice flavours out there worth to try, like Jonagold, Pinova, Holstein Cox (one of my favourites), Braeburn, Rubens, Topaz, ... The only ones i don't like are the really sour ones (however the sour ones are often the best for baking, so they have their purpose) and the perfectly looking shiny and waxy ones (they make me feel like eating a fake plastic apple used for decoration).
@tortellini67938 жыл бұрын
I always run my apples under hot water and use a knife to scrape off wax before I eat them. It's amazing (and disgusting) how much wax comes off!
@fractalcore76918 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I can see that and that is a reasonable thing to do. The natural apple wax (or fruit wax in general) protects the fruit from mold and bacteria, but it isn't exactly beneficial for us because it is rather difficult for the human digestive system to get rid of it (some people are more sensitive than others). When I buy very waxy apples I usually peel them completely to be on the safe side.
@TamiDunn8 жыл бұрын
I have never really worried about it.

Hah, I don't know how anyone can say that a Gala apples is "good" after trying a Honeycrisp. HC is sweet, tart and crisp. Gala is just bland and mealy. I wish the Gala would just go away, along with the awful Red Delicious. Fuji are also pretty lame unless you get them young before they overripen and get mealy.

They're supposed to taste like apple cider. If you get the big ones they won't taste like it.The littler ones taste more like apple cider but I think people are trying sell non honey crisp put that label on them and get people to do taste test without knowing what they are supposed to taste like. Which allows fraud to prosper. or like a lot of growers they just water too much and they get too big and it dilutes the flavor
