Two things: 1) the problem isn't that Stav hates his dad, the problem is that he loves him and wants to show him that he can be successful as a man in spite of not working with his hands. He will help his dad capitalize on his carpentry skill. Watch. Children of immigrants always have the hurdle of dealing w parents who bring so much awkward beauty and wisdom into a new land. 2) Stav looks better and clearly has been exercising on the road. It means he does care about his health and wants others to be better too. It's an undercurrent in all of his standup: jab at folks so they reflect upon their situation, but build them up and dispense whatever wisdom they have to make their situation better. He's Greek. It's what they do.

You talking about free lunches at school reminded me, I had to use the program as well. But for about 6 months of my high school career they made all the free lunch students eat cheese sandwiches. Everyone else had their taco pie or sloppy Joe or whatever, then my extremely self conscious ass had to walk away with a single slice of American on white bread. Safe to say my attendance dropped that year
@DavisD8142 жыл бұрын
Jesus Christ.. where the hell did you go to school? Free lunches where I went to school, we got the same options everyone else did. Main meal, pizza, nuggets and fries, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, etc. When we got to the table to “pay” we just gave them our name and they crossed it off a page that had everyone’s name that was supposed to get free lunches. I would look at the page and see everyone’s name and if I noticed a kid who that got free lunches wasn’t there that day, I’d go back through and get a second lunch but tell them I was that kid instead. lol. So I’d get two free lunches that day. Survival mode kicks in when you know you’re not going to get a home cooked meal for dinner.

So it very clearly was like, if you’re getting in the line all the way to left everybody knows you’re poor af. There was a poor line, a reduced lunch line where you only paid 40 cents, and the expensive normal line. And it served different foods too. Like the poor food would be hot dogs and mystery meat and baked beans. And the rich line had actual chick fil a sandwiches and ice cream bars and gatorades.
