Hi HMSG, have been following you and benefitting from some of your videos. Just wanted to let you know that this video is very close to heart - coming from someone who eat, sleep, dream of retiring in Malaysia at a certain “X” age. While I may not have the capacity to do it now because of family commitments, but please ignore the naysayers or keyboard warriors… You live your own life and I believe you made the right decision. Continue to live your own life, and benefit people all around you. 👍👍 Cheers!

I used to work in Singapore and also worked remotely in Malaysia with a Singaporean company as contract worker. Based on what I experienced, I realise people in Singapore are playing different game: the pursuit of luxury in a high pressure environment. The goal seems to work your way up and spend all your saving to own a HDB flat (or if lucky a car as well) for retirement. Both are luxuries due to limited space in SG. And the people around me will ask how much I earned or whether I own any house or car. Then there will be stories about how Ah Kong (whom I don't know) is earning a lot, bought house etc... That's why I totally understood why your haters will comment such way. They have been working hard for so many years to get to their current level (remember when Internet wasn't a norm). Yet, you're moving away from the system while acquiring the same assets at much faster rate. Who wouldn't be jealous? 🤣 In Malaysia, the people in the cities are much like to compare as well; career, assets, brand etc. But you can choose not to play this game. I was baffled why Singaporeans have negative connotation towards living in Malaysia where everything is so much cheaper here and the food is usually fresher too. Since you make contents remotely, there's no real good reason to stay in expensive area like SG unless you want to stay close to your family or like-minded people within the area. Anyway, glad that you give Malaysia a try! I'm sure you can find the balance after that. Good luck!

You are right. People who move out of their comfort zone will definitely widen their horizon. Otherwise, we will see our domestic challenges as the worst in the world when in fact many other countries have more difficult problems to face. I often hear many Singaporeans say people are friendly in Malaysia. I think it may SOMETIMES be because you are foreigners with spending power. Singapore are also nicer to foreigners in Singapore especially sales people.

Welcome to Malaysia bro. It’s better here since you already have the money and is generating income passively. Lower cost of living and still you have access to invest as you like. Just don’t throw away your SG citizenship. Don’t think it’s worth it to do so becoming a full Malaysian. Due to political reasons it’s better to stay a Singaporean.

I dont know why foreigners kept on saying life in Malaysia is so laidback. To me it is not laid back at all. I don't know about Singapore cause I have never lived there but to me compared to my time in the US life is so much more hectic in Malaysia than in the US. In the US I finish my work exactly at 6 PM. Most people who do overtime they are only doing it because they want to chase for promotions and all. However the majority of people goes back from work exactly at 6. In Malaysia, well I wish I could do that. If I dont work overtime I will never be able to meet my deadline. I have to work on average 11-12 hours per day. My brother works at a large multi national insurance company and he has been working 60 - 70 hours per week. Malaysian companies are well known to be understaffed and because of that your workload becomes so much bigger. Plus, because of the horrible traffic I sometimes have to go out from my house super early. I would have to start driving before 7 AM or else I am going to be late. Everyday is such a rush for me. Life in Kuala Lumpur is stressful in my opinion. Maybe if you live in Ipoh or Melaka it is not that much of a rush, but in KL or Penang it is a lot of rush. I think the whole Malaysia is so laid back thing comes from the fact we are much less materialistic than Singapore or the US or the UK and so on. We also don't care much about looks, not nearly as much as the Americans, Koreans, Japanese, etc. I do believe that Malaysians walk pretty slow, that to me is because we literally drive everywhere we go. We are not accustomed to walking a lot unlike Singapore or Japan. So whenever we walked, we actually enjoyed and we cherished it, at least that is true for me. 😅😅😅. As far as the whole efficiency thing I do agree about that, however when it comes to the private sector to me its due to again understaffed. Many of these workers like at the malls and all they had to work 16-17 hours per day for very little money. I used to work for a month at a supermarket after SPM as a cashier and it was hell. They don't have much staff and if one person is on leave most of the time we have to cover his time if his shift is during peak hours. Many of us who worked there was burnt out, and I lasted only a month, I pity the rest of the worker. I mean it's bad enough that I have to work that long and standing for hours and all I get is being paid dirt money. Why would I care to give my best work for a lousy job with a terrible management like that. In the public sector though those working in the Ministry are the worst. You see all this mak cik with their big tushy walking so slow, with their lazy faces providing the worst services ever. Lol. That area needs a lot of improvements, its time for the government to significantly cut down public sector employment.

Welcome to Malaysia Chris and hope your stay here will be as pleasant as you expect it to be or better. Whilst that, how about creating some contents that could encourage our Malaysian B40 and M40 on baby steps but long-term investing via Tiger, WeBull or even Momo (who is gonna be active in Malaysia). People these days just underestimate what a single Rm100 per month can do for them if they compound it through proper investments. Many invest in short-term games with quick returns in which makes them loose even more. For some viewers out there, answer is NO, the races here DON'T HATE each other. However, I wouldn't deny the fact of some nutjobs creating racial tensions everywhere they go. It is not hard to live in Malaysia and YES to what Chris said being respectful to the local culture and I would wanna add that you just have to do a thorough research before making any approach. Being in Singapore maybe too competitive for one but he/she may be a pioneer with whatever skillset they have in Malaysia (who knows). It's not the exchange rate that matters, it's what you've gain eventually. For Chris, your youth, knowledge and positive attitude will bring many good things into your life. All the best.

i dont think the comments you highlighted are hate comments, just people voicing their opinions. Singaporeans are way too sheltered with regards to little criticisms / pushbacks like this. When I interact with people from let's say UK, they banter all the time and it trains their heart. if your heart 格局 is big enough you wouldnt view them as hate comments / or even take the time to point it out specifically in a video. the fact that you did it still reflects much more about you (pettiness) despite what you 'say'.

All the hollow haters just ignore them, as they are the real losers unable to admit to themselves that they are not able to have the freedom of choice like you have. Perhaps Msians outside of KL/Selangor is more used to speaking in Malay (BM) but definitely not the case in KL/Selangor. I just wanna share an interesting cultural difference that I only came to learn about this year (as a 30 y/o KL-kia born and raised in KL and never lived outside of KL/Selangor). I have a SG classmate when I'm studying in HK, and he thought my BM should be good but I was very puzzled because in fact BM is my least-used and weakest language (partly bcoz i have strong opinions abt the racial discrimination happening in Msia). Even if someone speaks to me in BM, I will reply in English (except for easy words like satu dua tiga, bungkus). Until I came back to KL and met with a friend from Johor, she explained that in Johor, they MUST speak BM to those Malay vendors or they won't respond to them (her exp growing up la). I was quite surprised by this cultural difference coz I rarely speak BM and in KL, speaking BM to everyone that you meet could get u into trouble. For example, if you speak BM to a dark skin guy who turns out to be Chinese, that is super rude lol. You will see the person immediately pull a LONG FACE and look VERY IRRITATED. I don't want to run into those kinds of situations. So I usually speak English first, and then guess the language that the other person speaks through our conversation, then code switch to whichever language we both feel more comfortable with.

I would say each have their own good. Having travel to much SEA countries, I wont put (west) Malaysia any top of Singapore. In fact, I will put Chiang Mai, Luang Prabang and Siem Reap, Miri (East Malaysia) high up for retirement areas. Food wise, I would say Singapore do have our own fresh produces. The question is, do you mind the much higher price than imported produced? Having Farms behind Choa Chu Kang does gives me freshest vegetables around, so I can safely say they are comparable to Camaron highland produce.
