Anyone that thinks that their 18 year old doesn't drink if they want to is living under a rock. I think if your old enough to be in the military there's no reason you shouldn't be able to book a cruise or a hotel, order a drink.

I didn’t drink at that age but that’s because I have relatives that were alcoholic so I didn’t want to end up like them. But I agree with most 18 do drink. Very common that shouldn’t shock no one.

As an American living abroad, I find “The Land of the Free” have more limitations than most places I have lived or travel to. I know of 16 year olds who have traveled and booked accommodations here in Europe. Growing up in LA, I traveled to Mexico to drink at 18. I turned out ok, IMHO. Also, you posted a video last week of a fully grown adult with his teenage child that couldn’t control himself. Responsibility and maturity can could come at all ages.

I’ve been to the military cemetery in Normandy France and viewed the rows of 18 year-olds the U.S. government sent onto those beaches to get massacred. Considering that rule, to my understanding, is still in place, and I mean the right of our government to massacre our 18 year old kids, then they should there right to cruise, booze, and conduct other personal activities that do not consist of human massacres.

My daughter graduated at 20 years of age from college. She got job upon graduation which required business travel. She worked for a major corporation who got exceptions for her to rent cars and stay in hotels for work.

It's VV decision on whether they want the potential headaches of young ones drinking w/o supervision. Knowing this, I'm just less likely to sail with VV (it's a choice). I'm just old enough to have been grandfathered in on Vermont's 18 y/o drinking age. I think I handled it pretty well, but I know plenty of my contemporaries who didn't. 🤣

Baby Boomer here. I could buy beer legally at 18, but not liquor, the same age that had me registered for the Vietnam War draft and designated as A1. But I couldn't vote for or against the politicians that sent my generation to war.

Thank God I grew up in NZ and now live in Australia. U.S.A. is one heck of a hand holding nanny state.Not all 18-year-olds are reckless. Not all 21 plus year olds are sensible. For an under21 year old to afford the cruise, they must be earning and saving.

I don’t think there would be very many 18 year olds going solo on a cruise. They travel in a group so they can have 4 in the cabin. Heaps cheaper. I had some fun times when I was 19-20 going on a cruise with friends. I’m still cruising, having fun at 62!😄🍸

the Legal age in BC, Canada is 19. Many provinces it's 18 to be an adult. I don't get why the USA is so behind on this, when there are plenty of adult things to do at 18 (vote, military etc).

I protected America while in foreign lands when I was 18, surely an 18 year old can travel or have a beer. In many countries 16 year olds can legally drink.

In many Caribbean countries you can drink at 18. When my son was 18 they served him alcohol in the casino.

Old guy here, it depends on the individual. I started working full-time at 14 1/2. Being responsible and keeping my nose clean. Large companies have seen the unresponsible side more often. Every rule has a story behind it.

We are on the Princess Caribbean now doing a TA. The drinking age is 18 on board. Don't know know about the age for booking.

This is astounding to hear! I had no idea! An eighteen year old can vote, be drafted, sent to adult prison, but cannot have a martini or go on a holiday? The age was lowered here in Australia in, I think, the 1970s, as a result of eighteen year olds protesting that they could be drafted so they were entitled to vote. I suppose Virgin follows UK rules which are along the same lines as ours? Thank you for the video!

That seems crazy to me as an Aussie! My daughter and her fiancé went on a cruise together last year when they were both twenty. No problems at all. And of course you are allowed to buy and drink alcohol here in Australia at 18. My son also went on a cruise with some mates when he was I think only 19. Got full benefit from his beverage package for sure, no worries mate! 🤪 Boy did we get some funny texts from him during that time! 😂

Oh yeah, i was 19 in 1995, went to like 5 hotels to try & rent a hotel room. We were denied at all of them cuz i wasn't 21. We even showed them our marriage certificate, still denied. So the last hotel i his in the car while he went in alone, then we had to sneak me in, smh crazy.

Gen X here. My mind is blown! I have been booking hotel rooms since I was 18 years old. I literally took a cruise hospitality course in college, and part of the class was an optional 3 day cruise. 21 isn't a minor, its the US's minimum drinking age. Those are very different things. This is just adults making up rules for other adults and calling them minors.

IMO: These days 18-year-olds haven't the maturity that those of us born in the 50's, 60, and maybe even into the early 70's. Doesn't mean they don't drink, marry, travel or have kids at that stage, just aren't ready for it.

American here, I do think married couples should be able to do anything an older adult can. Heck, I think people who have children of their own should be able to do the same too. If you're old enough to do adult activities like get married or procreate, you're old enough to rent a room, car, cruise, drink, etc. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Adult age is 18 in the US not 21. Per google AI. almost all states set the base legal age as 18 years old. This is the age at which a person gains control over their own actions and affairs and becomes responsible for the decisions they make. Those past the age of legal majority are usually tried as adults when charged with crimes. Why should you not be able to cruise as a legal adult?

I don't think of 18 years old people as adults but if you are old enough to fight a war, vote, get married and go to prison then I suppose you are old enough to travel and drink responsibly. It's kind of a double edge sword.

If you are old enough to serve (and die for your country) in the military you ought to be considered an adult. 18 is a reasonable age for doing "adult" things. More years ago than I like to remember, the drinking age in New York State was 18 and I remember celebrating with my first "legal" beer on my 18th birthday with my buddies. Yes, many 18 year-olds behave stupidly, but that doesn't change when they turn 21. Stupid is as stupid does.

Married or not married. If we want to make them adults at 18 and they are 100% responsible for everything legally and financially. They can do anything and everything else at 18 why would they not be able to book their own travel. Having to drive and check my adult child and his wife into their honeymoon suite was and is absolutely ridiculous! They are either adults or they are not.

Hey J. Wow. I did not know there was a hotel age limit of 21. But wait. When the cruise is booked, you put your birthday so the cruise line knows the ages upfront 🤔. Oh ok. So the parent booked and they had their marriage license with them. I’m still lost though. The parent didn’t book themselves, just the young adults 🤷🏻‍♀️. There are many 18 yr olds that are responsible and can travel and many that cannot. I was responsible at 18 but some of my friends weren’t and I would never travel with them. It’s a fine line. Once my bestie and I graduated college at 21, we traveled on our own.

does 18 drinking on virgin hold even when the ship is docked at an american port? i've been surprised by comments on a tv gossip show i watched when a young celebrity might have been spotted at a night club in europe and drinking and people (here in the usa staff) are all shocked at how wrong that is. i guess other countries can have their laws but the "real" laws everywhere are american laws 🙂 since i came from a state where the drinking age was 18 my first thought was...but if it's legal there why is this shocking that she's doing that?

Hi there. I would never have allowed or approved of my 18 year old son going on a Virgin cruise with his friends/girlfriend. I would have been awake for as long as the cruise worrying, pacing, imagining... Drinking at 18? Oh, no! He's 24 now and I'd still worry!
