Yeah they will, and they deserve it. But if people vote LieBour, then it is WE who will "Get Hammered" They haven't been an effective opposition, because there has been nothing for them to oppose. Because the Tories have pretty much mirrored LieBour policies, which has WRECKED this country. So a vote for LieBour, is a vote for more of the same. That is why I will be voting for Fresh Blood, I will be voting Reform.

Speaking as a lifetime supporter that has predicted this for a while. The Conservatives own this. They have prioritised short term fixes, being popular and noble virtue signalling policies that the leader likes but which will do nothing to address the UK’s fundamental problems (relative GDP/capita and productivity falling, size of teh state and tax burden rises without any commensurate improvement in the quality or availability of public services for teh most part). The lack of policies and randomness of them (national service - really?) sums it up. They have no cohesive political narrative and have run out of gas. They lack ministerial talent and have run themselves into the ground….this is worse than 1997.

The last point you make in particular is 100% correct. The lack of talent. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a pronounced case of political ‘brain-drain’ in a party as I have now, and of course much of it is down to the shambolic performance of Boris Johnson who drove out all the experienced, moderate Tories in 2019 and replaced them with Brexit ‘luminaries’ like Anne Widdicombe…

There are many reasons why the Conservatives are going to lose badly next month. One of them is the shocking state of the party's organisation. (I volunteered a couple of weeks ago and still haven't been mobilised in a constituency that is marginal.) Another is CCHQ's forcing PPCs on local associations - evident this week in the case of the party chairman bravely pushing others aside in his dash for a lifeboat. But the biggest factor will be the ineptitude of Sunak. He should have played it long and spent the remainder of the year doing things with a still sizeable majority. But he called a snap election to avoid a no confidence vote. Damn him!

Labour will still have to face the fact that Brexit has fundamentally undermined the UK economy. Input and consumer prices are up and will stay up because it's harder to import things into the UK. Exports are down because it's harder to export to the UK's largest trading partners. Foreign Direct Investment is way way down because the UK is not friendly place to enter the EU market, and not a friendly place to attract workers from the EU. There's not a lot a UK government can do about this. You can't really duplicate the efficiencies of the EU single market without being in the single market. As of last quarter, the UK economy has a GDP 1.7% larger than it's pre-pandemic level. The Eurozone's GDP is 3.4% larger. That sort of gap in economic growth is the new normal, and Labour can't do much about it.

The biiggest problem for me is allowing almost a million extra people into the country every year, putting an enormous strain on public services & our way of life. More money than ever is being pumped into our failing NHS, just to accomodate the extra people, many of whom breed like rabbits, in 10 years time this will no longer be a christian, law abiding country Be careful what you wish for

John Major promised consumerist public services: That lead to an unexpected 1992 victory. Growth enabled much more public services, regulatory overhead and statute. Blair accelerated that. After the 2008 crash, it became unaffordable. After Brexit, Covid and Ukraine instead of a return to growth, we had more recession. Public Services (~45% GDP) have now had big cuts.

If the Tories suffer a really humiliating defeat, it will be much worse for them than Labour’s defeat in 2019. Two reasons: 1. The Tory party on the ground is dominated by elderly people, and has minuscule support among the young. There’s little support now for the traditional view that voters necessarily get more right wing as they get older. 2. Tory support from donors and big backers in business and the media is dependent on their being seen as the ‘successful’ party of government. It’s not based on any great love for this dysfunctional and frankly rather unattractive group of people.

The public is ashamed that so many people use food banks The public is embraced about the decline in every high street The public wants affordable homes for younger generations The public wants roads that are safe to drive on The public wants clean beaches and rivers The public wants trains and buses that turn up and run on time The public wants schools to be open and not crumbling with sufficient numbers of teachers. The public want to know that police will turn up if they have been robbed For 14 years, these problems have got worse. The public want a government who do something to turn round the last 14 years of decline

How wonderful to see Andrew Neil commenting on current affairs again, he's been away from public life for too long, always worth listening to, a man of stature. As for Sir Flip‐Flop, aka Kier Starmer, nice, intelligent man but in my view a political pigmy. And Richie Sunack? Not a great PM but a steady leader who steered us brillantly through the pandemic and had the courage to quit the Cabinet headed by the wholly repugnant, horrible, horrible Boris Johnson, the latter a gigantic disgrace to the country with his deeply irresponsable Partygate misbehaviour. Then there's the loony Liz Truss who did horrendous damage to the Economy serving to add to my utter dismay of the Conservatives, their reputation heavily soiled. I'll vote either Greens or Lib Dems.
