Hong Kong International Airport

HK airport, consistently voted best in the world, a walk round the transit area of the airport. I missed my Cathay Pacific connecting flight, so a few hours to get thru at the airport until next flight. Seen duty free shops and restaurants and jets on the tarmac outside.

Hong Kong is my favorite airport. It's been 15 years since I have been there. Thank you for the tour. When I was there, my phone wasn't smart enough for me to take good photos or videos.

The SHOPPING and HOTELS ARE AMAZING...and the FOOD...D E LICIOUS The shuttle train from the airport into Honk Kong is amazing...so modern and free Internet...the whole Nine yards... They spared no expense creating HKIA... airports are so cool...your in your own world...

If you have 15 hours on return, and you like airplanes, a good thing to do is the cable car ride to Lantau Island (Buddha Statue place). Some great views of Hong Kong Airport cable car. Make sure you take a camera...

How about going into HK itself, is there enough time?

15 hours in daytime is plenty of time. HK Airport is very quick to get in and out of. There is a speed train to city 30 minutes. For a quick experience I would - (1) take speed train to HK Island (2) Take the tram up the hill to The Peak - great views of HK (3) Back down to Star Ferry at HK Central and take Star Ferry to Kowloon across Victoria Harbour (4) Have a drink at The Peninsula or The Intercontinental, 5 minute walk from Kowloon Star Ferry terminal. You can do all that in about 8 hours daytime.

Great video! Last time I was there, had a 9 hour overnight layover. Being cheap, I didn't get a hotel room, so just wandered around the airport and had a sleep at one of the gates on the couches. At 2am the airport is pretty dead, which I found surprising. I did have a bite of breakfast, though not at McD's, haha.

HKIA is certainly one of the top airports in the world. It's just magnificent. But even this mammoth facility is under pressure from overcrowding. Gd thing the Hong Kong government has decided to build a 3rd runway and massive new terminals and concourses. But that's a long wait.

Why is it 11 hours from Vancouver to Hong Kong, but my quarterly business trip from San Francisco to Hong Kong is 14:40 hours?

The route the plane flies isn't straight across the Pacific, as one may expect - reckon something to do with curvature of Earth. The flight from Vancouver goes up near Alaska, near Russia, Korea, and down the Eastern China coast to HK. Bit like a n shape as opposed to -. Surprised me too - I watch the flight map, half asleep on long haul flights. I guess from SF, its about 2 hours to Vancouver and then....

Agree. HKIA wins on architecture but Changi has a warmer and more inviting interior. I use both frequently and they are my favourite airports.
