Not that scary actually. The turn looks to be made quite high above the buildings, although in reality it's just 500ft/150m above them. From the passengers' side, it looks like your average airport. It's flying into the airport as a pilot that is the fun stuff.

I would say it looks “exhilarating” to a passenger that isn’t afraid of flying, and “scary” to a passenger that is normally merely a nervous flyer. I would have LOVED to have been a passenger on the right hand side with a window seat landing at Kai Tak. But Kai Tak closed before I was ever able to fly to Hong Kong, so I’ve only ever experienced the new airport. It is definitely not a normal-looking landing. And I think by watching it on a screen kind of hides just how close it was in real life. Almost no airports have steep turns mere seconds before landing, and certainly not over major parts of a major city.
