KiingMufasa these are some ‘special cases’. In most situations they shoot the rubber bullet and tear gases first, and they show the warning flag. In last year there were at least of 3 people were blinded because of the ‘police’ , shoot the rubber bullet directly to their eyes which is not following the law. You may search the news of 12/6, 11/8, 29/9, which include the information and video. And there are more and more police brutality in Hong Kong. I hope this could give you more information of the situation in Hong Kong and hope you will watch the above news and video to justify whether those ‘police’ are really professional.

The Hong Kong police deserve to be respected. They are under pressure from both sides, protesters believe they are excessively violent, and some citizens think they are too weak. They have been working at high pressure for so long time, and their families and children are threatened by protesters. But they still exercise restraint as much as possible, and maintain the order of the city within the authority given by the law.

@@AllanBaguinon Hong Kong operates with a high degree of autonomy due to one country two systems constitution as part of the handover treaty. Hong Kong residents are very free and are not oppressed. Also if you ask protesters how they're oppressed, most would have trouble giving a straight answer. A common half truth is 'separatist elected lawmakers were denied', what they won't tell you is that the were denied because they refused to take a proper oath-a common requirement in western democracies. You could openly and publicly criticize China and have absolutely no problems visiting Hong Kong. That's a true testiment to how free Hong Kong is generally and from China.

@FirstLast-di5sr
@FirstLast-di5sr 5 жыл бұрын
They do, it's generally only done through megaphone/speakers. HK is a multi-lingual area (Mandarin, Cantonese, English) so it makes sense for them not to have to say everything in triplicate. Using flags for (para/military) tactical communications is an ancient method. It also functions for both the legal (international attention) excuse/dismiss excessive force complaints purposes as much as in aiding communications between units of officers (who may not be able to hear the commands/radio). Especially when deploying large formations to enable the creation of a frontline; West seems to use smaller more mobile units (not to be confused with the shock troops shown above) for containment before funneling in to consolidate their ranks for clearing/arrest operations. As much as they'd like it to appear as an above and beyond humanitarian gesture (while amassing troops on the border), it's simply a cold and pragmatic bureaucratic decision wholly void of any ethical motivations, thoughts or concerns.
@GeoT91
@GeoT91 5 жыл бұрын
@@FirstLast-di5sr Hong Kong is predominantly if not all Cantonese speaking, mandarin isn't spoken except for Mainlanders visiting for business/travel, many people know English but it's really for expats. I don't think English is necessary for communicating with locals but it's probably for the international audience as you pointed out. So were the peaceful protesters at Toronto G20 given warnings before mass arrests were made? I was under the impression that no warnings were given. Army police at the border has no effect on humanitarian considerations and their deployment would be on Hong Kong government not Hong Kong Police. Since peaceful protests have devolved into lawless violent riots, I don't think it's entirely unreasonable to use army police. Also their deployment would be consistent with the one country two systems constitution. If these riots took place in the US, the National Guard would undoubtedly be called in like Ferguson.

I think the use of Bi-lingual warnings and signs is in part to the history of HK being a British territory for over 100 years and there would be a wider use of English in general in addition to the larger number of British citizens present. Even after the return the British influence on equipment, uniform and tactics is still present, although in the mainland UK whilst all the kit is in the manual (gas, baton rounds, water cannon) we are very reluctant to use it at 'home' - one of the things that hasn't changed is the old Empire approach of it being ok to use in the "colonies" equipment and tactics that back in the 'homeland' would only be used in the most dire situation. We invented the original baton round in HK for riot suppression there in the 1880's but it's use was never contemplated back in the UK - likewise the modern rubber/plastic version was invented by us in the 60's/70's but was only widely used in Northern Ireland - on the mainland it's a specialist less lethal option for armed officers and things would have to be really bad before they saw riot control use (came close a couple of times in the 80's though)

If I was living in HK with university aged kids, they'd be on a plane to study internationally, whether they liked it or not. Also note that when the PLA is goaded into HK, the Western media will go into a Tienanmen 2.0 frenzy. All the protesters will have gone home, as is the plan, so most of the media coverage will be of APCs rolling down empty streets, and old footage of Tienanmen. The end result will be severe damage to the Chinese government (political and economic), basically a poison pill, and guaranteed refugee status for anyone in HK that wants to leave. That is the plan.

When can SCMP make another one on the HK rioters tactics against the police?
@raksh9
@raksh9 5 жыл бұрын
Stoning with slingshots Throwing bricks at police stations and family barracks Petrol bombs Lasers to blind police Use of social media and chat apps to coordinate protest venues Use of MTR to travel to locations Changing clothes to deter pursuers Protective gear including helmets, goggles, motorbike gloves, bike armour Face masks to conceal identity Beating normal civilians who argue with them Breaking windscreens of normal civilian cars Attacking legitimate news reporters and news vans from TVB Physically stopping normal people from getting through immigration at HK airport Blockading important roads and tunnels Tying up suspected undercover cops Quite a list of tactics.

@@raksh9 Correct. And with these the protesters say they fight for freedom and democracy. Hong Kong is (was) a highly developed, peaceful and orderly society. Difference in view is (was?) permitted, but not by these protesters who have beat up civilians and exercise deliberate attack on police, police stations, police residences and their families, as per protesters violently seek to force their demands. And... protesters dare claim they stand for democracy and freedom? All crime by protesters shall be punished by law, including those who mislead you into these crimes. Hong Kong police is professional, I wish they were granted more authority to exercise stronger as in the west, where even national guards and live ammunition is used. As is now protesters continue to exercising terror on civilians and destruction to streetscape, to police stations, cars, shops etc.
@4Fixerdave
@4Fixerdave 5 жыл бұрын
I'd actually like to see that. But, alas, the protesters are changing tactics too quickly. Brilliant tactics, really. They've learned so much from other protest movements, invented so many new things, and I expect they're basically writing the textbook for future protesters. I expect most governments in the world are paying very close attention. The HK protesters are winning and that has got to make a lot of government officials rather nervous. It will not take long for these HK tactics to be everywhere. Not universally applicable, mind you, as HK has some rather unique features, but a lot of this stuff will spread around quickly.
