HONGDIAN M2 FOREST GREEN

I’ve just got the Hongdian M2 Black Forest Mini Fountain Pen in space grey and it’s lovely and so small and I’ve put Diamine majestic purple ink in it. Am impressed with the ink flow and when posted is just the right length and weight in the hand. It’s a well balanced pen imho.

Hello Vincenzo - Nice video. I have a couple of M2s and have fallen in love with them. My pens have the standard Hongdian dark colored nib and fantastic, very smooth and with a great feel. I could even be convinced they have some bounce. Mine are fine nibs and feel more like a FM to me. In fact I am going to order an EF for comparison. I think you will like the standard M2 nib much better than the standard M1 nib. Cheers and thanks you!

Nice review. The green is a nice shade, but I prefer the Midnight Blue that I have with a Hongdian Fine point nib. I skipped the M1 cause I just can't get past the attempted cigar shape in a pocket pen size!! I have quite a number of pocket pens one of which is the XS Minimalist Pocket Fountain pen made in Ultem with a Black Fine point Bock nib. I'm not sure if you knew of of this pen, or have already done a review of, but it is quite diminutive in size.

Saw that pen but it is an Ensso pen and so far my experiences with their nibs are awful. I do have the Italia in Ultem and I was forced to replace the nib.

@@fountainpentherapy I'm sorry you've had bad experiences with their nibs. I once got a Diplomat Nexus from Goulet pens that was a 'bottom shelf' sale, and the nib proved to me why it was bottom shelf!! Needless to say, I didn't let that stop me from working on the nib, and I fixed it to the point of it being one of my better writing pens in the collection. In a perfect world one shouldn't have to do those things, but they happen, and all we can do is what we feel is best!

M1 simply looks like the Fischer Space Pen. No biggie. I have a couple Fischers and I like them.

Thank you. Mine, the same you have reviewed, with a Hongdian fine nib, is currently inked with Diamine Writers Blood. Very pleased. I did have trouble with it going dry when inked with Platinum Carbon Black.

The Platinum is tough ink to manage. I do not use it.

Thank you for this review! I love both my M1 (light teal-tinted aluminum, Fine nib) and my M2 (umber-tinted aluminum, EF nib). They are tough and reliable, unfazed by riding around in a trouser pocket. The HongDian #5 nibs in M1 and M2 are smooth and a bit bouncy, and it’s easier for me to get a bit of line variation than it was with your nib. Like you, I slightly prefer the M2. I like the body colors and that extra bit of length posted makes a difference in comfort. I do wish HongDian would put a bit of texture in the section, though the slickness isn’t going keep me from using them. As you say, the flare at the nib end of the section is helpful. Did you like the image on the finial? Entwined black and white cats, yin/yang. A nice and surprising touch. HongDian does sell replacement nibs, including EF, F, M and bent/fude, on Amazon. I don’t know if the #5 nibs that fit many of their other smaller pens, like the H3 and the Black Forest original and Pro, are swappable with those on the M1 and M2. Maybe another commenter will say.

I need to replace the nibs for an Hongdian nib. Since I do not like my M1 I will swap the nib into my M2.

I really enjoy my M2, I have it in Blue (came with the nice new bouncy Hongdian nib) & recently ordered another one in the brown color. I'm curious to see which nib it arrives with. I do have one of the Lemon branded pens & it is quite nice as well, so I think i will be happy either way. I may have to get the other 2 colors as well...lol

Those Lemon nibs are what I believe are architect grinds and I just can not get used to them.

Nice thorough review. Having said that, I just don’t get pocket pens. Whose pocket can’t take another couple of centimetres? In fact, all of my pens are pocket pens. Again, it looks like a solution trying to find a problem. And you introduce compromises like nib size, converter capacity, size (girth) and for what? Again to save a couple of centimetres in length. Well, to each his own. But complete review nevertheless.

Thanks, Vincenzo! Slippery, yes. Mine (brown) came with a Hongdian black nib, very nice. The clip broke on mine, clipped on pocket of my jeans, probably while climbing stairs it snapped.

Nice review, although I'm not personally interested in a another pocket pen. Possibly it's the matte finish and the straighter shape that keeps it from feeling slippery. Do you have any info on the Lemon nib, or is that just another surprise from China?

Thanks for sharing! Just another surprise. I just received my A24s both the white and red. I ordered the pens with what is referenced as hand polished medium nibs. Funny enough the pen was delivered with 2 lemon nibs (look like architect grinds) and the medium hand polished nibs are in the package separately. Maybe I paid for both in the price.

Nice review. I think it reminds too much of another pen from Germany and other manufacturers. I like Hong Dian nibs, especially their more recent releases that have a bounce and some line variation. Their nibs tend to run a bit wider. The Fine seems to approach Medium.

Considering how much I love pocket pens, I'm surprised I haven't picked either of these up yet. I have them both in my AliExpress basket, but there's always been something else I've prioritised, so there they've stayed. One day... The Kaweco thing was with Moonman and their RS1, which was literally a Kaweco Sport in titanium. They don't go after pocket pens in general.

Greetings from Australia. Good video. I enjoyed it. Are you planning to review the Hong dian A24? It's another year of the Dragon with the Dragon motif on the cap. It also has a ring on the cap for a lanyard if one is inclined to wear around one's neck. I'm considering as a substitute for the N24, which looks too bulky in the barrel.

By the way, Spoilers alert the A24 is #5 size nib. The N24 is beautiful and big. However, the wood barrel crack problem appears to be a problem form many.

According to a seller of Hongdians (3rd party on amazon), there is an M nib that will fit this pen. I'm not sure, as I didn't pursue it, but it might be a nib that fits one of Hongdian's normal sized pens.

I would try putting a Kaigelu No.5 nib and you would have areal winner.

I wish they did have medium, broad and a #6 nib that would crank it up. I like writing with Broad nibs and #6. Vincenzo, do the threads feel sharp? Do you feel them cutting into your fingers, for me the Kaweco does that, just bought the new purple one and it does that. I guess because I hold it tighter being so light.

The threads are not sharp. You can feel them but its a very small thread section.
