This young man was a musical genius. He had such a soulful, sweet and vulnerable voice. His songs are as relevant today as ever. I never tire of listening to his recordings. Thanks for sharing this. GP your spirit will live on....one hundred years from now.

OMG. Genius Gram. Only HE could do a Stones' song better than The Stones. Southern music at its finest because of him. No wonder Keith Richards was so in awe of him. Gram makes me so proud to be from The South. RIP Gram. I know you are. God loves you.

Does it matter whether he wrote it? (Intriguing as the rumour is!) He gives it a Gram Parsons treatment and the song will never be the same again. ('But frankly people, I don't have the time' - poignant, or what?) A classic performance.

I keep coming back to this song. I love it. Gram singlehandedly transformed country music. Many bands that came after him the Eagles being one would never have emerged the way they did without Grams influence. Shame he died before he got to really reap the rewards of his genius. “In the arms of the angels” was written about Grams death. You just need to read the lyrics of the song to understand In the arms of the angel Fly away from here From this dark, cold, hotel room And the endlessness that you fear You are pulled from the wreckage Of your silent reverie You're in the arms of the angel May you find some comfort here So tired of the straight line And everywhere you turn There's vultures and thieves at your back The storm keeps on twisting Keep on building the lies That you make up for all that you lack It don't make no difference Escaping one last time It's easier to believe in this sweet madness Oh, this glorious sadness That brings me to my knees In the arms of the angel Fly away from here From this dark, cold, hotel room And the endlessness that you fear You are pulled from the wreckage Of your silent reverie You're in the arms of the angel May you find some comfort here You're in the arms of the angel May you find some comfort here Gram died from a morphine overdose in a dingy hotel room.

Actually written by Sarah McLachlan, but it suits Gram well. Beautiful lyrics. Emmylou didn't find Gram, but she's mourned him for 46 years.

Margaret Ross You’re right, I’ve obviously associated it with Gram because the words describe his death almost exactly. It was written about Johnathan Melvoin the keyboard player for the Smashing Pumpkins, he died in a hotel room from a heroin overdose. I compare it to Gram because he died of a morphine overdose in a dingy hotel. We both agree that that song is a beautiful tribute to a troubled musical genius.

Well, they kind of look the same. Image is the most important thing in business, especially 'show' business! It's not about the music, it's always about the money and G. Parsons just didn't want to play the game but he hung on to Keith Richards like he was some kind of god or hero and in the end this friendship destroyed him because Gram Parsons became a junkie like Keith Richards. He wasn't a very nice person towards women or his friends but people just forget about his dark side and like to remember him as being a sweet, sensitive soulful songwriter due to his musical genius and his impact on popular music.

Paul Savage yes and that is what drugs do to a person. Unfortunately, in modern society we tend to glamorize them, much to the harm of everyone. Even to this very day. This is tragic and a key contributor to the decline of our civilization.

Jagger and Richards were such assholes that they wouldn't let anybody on to their turf. They both try to portray themselves as nice guys but they wouldn't even give Brian Jones songwriting credit for Ruby Tuesday. They did the same thing to Ron Wood. It just goes to show that Jagger is a greed monster and either Keith Richards is selfish or is so intimidated by Jagger that he doesn't want to cause a scene by helping his friends get recognized for inspiring some of the best Rolling Stones songs. Jagger and Richards couldn't be bothered to go to Brian Jones' funeral but they made a big song and dance out of his death. Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts went to his funeral, so it wasn't like they were too busy to attend. They just didn't like the guy, so I guess it makes sense. Why would you go to someone's funeral if you don't like the person?

+l2string if you get specific, 30,000 in 1970 with inflation is worth almost 200,000 in today's money. So if he was getting that after his mom died when he turned 18 or whenever you went home. It would be almost 2 million by the time he died

maybe i was a bit overstated with my implication, but the similarities to Flying Burrito Brothers, Grievous Angel and GP, considering that the Stones had really done nothing in the way of country rock up up until Gram came in the picture, is highly suspect....also Jagger & Richards seem very tight-lipped on the subject of Graham, but that might just be me inferring too much
@CodyDylanSewell
@CodyDylanSewell 8 жыл бұрын
+Mel Blank yeah I don't think mick liked him very much. I know Keith is always praising his lost friend. I definitely think he influenced the song. I wouldn't put it past to say he may have thought of it from jamming with gram but grams whole career was mostly country and soul covers. He was always too fucked to focus and make his own music until he decided to go solo and clean up a little bit. Sadly he jumped back on the stuff too soon and too hard.
