Huawei is just one of a lot of Chinese manufacturers that can produce great phones for the price. It is obvious that these phones are not perfect but I love the fact the Chinese companies set an example for the price/performance/design ratio. Do you agree?

+TechLineHD I absolutely agree that they offer a quality product for the price. What I dislike is how much they copied other manufacturers' designs to do it. For example, take a look at the back of the phone; it's an HTC One M9 clone with a finger print sensor. Another example is the folders in their Android skin that look exactly like the folders in iOS, and the iOS-esque lack of app drawer. I could go on. And then they have the nerve to call this phone the "Honor"... at least they don't blatantly rip their names off other OEMs like Xiaomi does. The "5X" is subtle enough that I'll give them a pass.

My grandmother (yes, grandmother) needed a new phone. I did some research for her and advised her to get this one. I explained everything, pros and cons, the touch ID etc. She got it, and i helped her set up the touch ID - works great. The finger scanning thing was a pain, we had to try it multiple times. I used the phone for a while, played some games, browsed the web and all this stuff - amazing. It's smooth, and i don't remember it lagging. The camera is perfect, the photos my grandma took are amazing and very high quality. The front camera isn't really great, but what do you expect, it's a front camera. I highly reccomend this phone. I want one for myself.

Nope, it doesnt, i dont even notice it when i dont think about it. Well, i always was used to stock android with a Nexus + Rooting and Custom Firmware and was very sceptical about the iOS style by Huawei/Honor BUT i like it. it´s clean, easy and they focused on every little detail. When i use the clock app for setting a timer or anything, all of my friends ask me what Phone that is because it looks just great! it is so far the best OS i had ( sony, samsung, stock, LG). The only negative thing you could say is that there is no App drawer but the iPhone users also survive without it.

I picked this phone up last night at Best Buy and so far it's amazing. It's so light, is dual-sim capable, has an amazing screen, the speakers have some punch to them, and multi-tasking is very quick. I can live with a mediocre camera. I can't wait to get some more usage out of it. Now I'm just waiting for my screen protector and case so I don't scratch it up.

Bruce Wayne It's a great phone hardware-wise, but after using it for a while it became crystal clear that the stock operating system, EMUI, is still buggy and suffers performance drops. I rooted the phone, flashed it with a custom recovery (TWRP), and installed CyanogenMod 13. There are plenty of videos on how to do these steps and it makes the performance on the phone buttery smooth. If you want a phone with excellent off the shelf performance, then this might not be the phone for you. However, at under $200, and after installing CyanogenMod, there is no question in my mind that it was a great buy.

Non removable battery is a deal breaker for many people. Why are manufacturers trying to copy Apple's crappy design? Also the lack of an IRBlaster is no good. I need my remote apps to control household electronics. :(

I don't get how it's a deal breaker for people when there are phones that people own on the regular that cost 500-700 retail that also do not have a removable battery. If this stops working, you could buy 4 more of these and you still wouldn't be broke. Huawei's support is pretty decent too. Can manufacturers like OnePlus or Alcatel say the same?

The removable battery makes it much easier to swap when you're out without a charger and your phone is dying or at 6% power. I use my phone ALL the time and simply swap out the battery when in dire need. It has saved me multiple times especially for work calls. External battery chargers are the best too!

I am glad I didn't see this review before I bought my Honor 5X phone! I had a User Interface software update notification pop-up as soon as I started setting up my phone. I went with the update after I finished my setup, and got to live tech support with MetroPCS to clear my old phone's nano sim for use with my new phone, (they have a BYO android device/phone option (as well as iOS and windows, I'm sure.) Only took a couple minutes to get it up and running from there... The EMUI 4.0 update must have fixed the stuttering and hangs mentioned here because, I have not seen any of it on my Honor 5X phone. Further, I downloaded and installed Futuremark's benchmarking ("3D Mark") software to see how well my phone would run the Ice storm Unlimited demo. While it slightly underperformed the average scores for the Honor 5X's on it's first run, I was impressed with the graphics rendering nonetheless. It looks great in 1080p (1920*1080) It was smooth and stutter free, with 30fpm or better for both battle scenes. I next tested the 4G/LTE functionality by going to Google play and streaming a couple of the movie trailers there. Again, I was impressed with the great looking HD display and stutter/buffer free streaming. I also didn't find the speakers to be tinny or muffled sounding, or weak. The sound is really pretty good, despite the absence of any RDS, Beats, Dolby DTS, etc., branding in support of the audio output. The good overall audio quality - which had only some noticeable distortion on the highest sound levels on my phone - makes me think the reviewer here just might have gotten a bum phone. I do wish that the phone had NFC and some premium quality digitizer glass, (Corning Gorilla Glass 3 or 4 would have been great, with some of that oliophobic coating... just sayin'.) The phone does come with a screen protector on it, right out of the box though... Oh, I do also want to mention that I am not seeing any "hot spots" on my display. It looks very uniform in brightness, not even any light along the edges of the display area, as you sometimes see with "affordable" smart phones when viewing them at an angle. I am very impressed with the high quality look and feel of this phone. though, I do want to get some protection for the brushed aluminum casing, to prevent scratches on it. There are some clear, soft plastic, phone protectors on Amazon for this phone too, so I can still get to show it off while keeping it looking great!

I loved my Honor 5x and it is really sad after my warranty expired it's battery life became worse and worse every single month until it was unusable. Not sure if I'd recommend any device from Huawei since mine only lasted for 2 years with couple of months on top and since there are also phones that have lasted longer than mine for example htc one m7.

Had the phone for 2 weeks now and there's some annoying issues and 2 major gripes. The phone is quite laggy even when doing basic things such as writing a message. I often find that the text on screen is playing catch up to the actual typing. Another issue is that I don't seem to get any notifications.... for anything, despite notifications being switched on (and some apps given priority) but despite that, nada. The camera is a hit and a miss. Don't expect to use it at speed or in a hurry. When it gets it right, the pictures can be great but when it gets it wrong, the pictures are beyond terrible. My major gripe with the phone is the music player. The speakers are pretty good but when you plug headphones/earphones in, it is unbelievably quiet. Another issue with the music player is that if you select a song to play, lock the screen and place the phone in a pocket, You'll find quite often that the tracks will stop, start, skip forward, rewind back of their own accord and this is because your clothing is pressing against the finger print scanner on the back of the phone. pretty damn irritating. The second big gripe is that the call quality is bad. Really struggle to hear the person on the other end. The phone looks and feels great and is well made. Stuff like browsing the internet, flicking between apps, display quality are all great. However, my main use for a phone other than calling and texting is music and this phone seems incapable of getting the basics right. They should concentrate on making a phone that can actually do the things a phone needs to do such as being able to keep up with writing speeds and providing good and crisp call quality before doing all the other flashy things.

Camera does NOT increase shutter speed in low light, this is not only a false statement, but is 100% opposite of what's really going on. In low light, the camera DECREASES shutter speed, which is necessary to gather enough light for a properly-exposed photo.

the question should be really how cheap is the aluminum metal lateral and scanner, if the device retails for 200$. people call a metal design premium because it feels good to their hand. that doesn't mange it premium. aluminum is cheap material, kevlar is more expensive

Material choices are dependent of what you like. If you like light weight then plastic is a go to. Bit if you like premium-ish feeling then you might go to full unibody metal or aluminium chassis. But the quality of the material will suffer as the price of this phone is comparatively low.

it is hard to believe that this phone, with such relatively high marks in geekbench, and an adreno to boot, has all those ui lag problems. I was tempted to think the problem might be the low ram, but the next test they show is antutu and those scores actually were noticeably low (but the 3d subbench did not run at all - maybe there actually is a problem with the adreno gpu?).

At 8m35s the explanation for low light camera blur doesn't make any sense. Increasing shutter speeds doesn't create camera blur. It actually allow less light in and also stops motion better than if you were to decrease the shutter.

I highly recommended that users ditch EMUI and load up CyanogenMOD. (CM13 currently.) The performance increase is like night and day. The only bug I've experienced is with dual sim. If you reboot the phone, or put it in airplane mode, while sim #2 is set as the preferred sim, you will lose service on both sims. You then have to reboot the phone, with no sims inserted, and reinsert them afterwards. Not even an issue if you only use 1 sim and no big deal regardless. Glad I took the time to switch over as all of my efforts to increase performance, and stop the freezing problems, did not work. The stock loaded firmware is just buggy garbage.
