During these times when the word "hero" is overused and misused, it is an excellent time (Memorial Day) to remember one of the genuine and authentic heroes of WWII. Our National Military Cemeteries are filled with many heroes such as Major Dick Winters.

My most cherished memory of my time at the Pentagon was the morning I spent with my young daughter laying wreaths on the graves at Arlington. Thanks for remembering Dick Winters. I can think of no finer example of all the men and women who were the Greatest Generation. Never forget.

Here in Australia we have ANZAC day, which we hold very dear to us on the 25th of April every year. This was the day in 1915 that the Gallipoli campaign commenced. It is a big day and services are held in every small town, to every suburb of every city, any public events that happen on that day such as public addresses or sports events... even in Gallipoli itself. It is a very important day to us, and I would like to hope that our American cousins hold their fallen and veterans in such high regard as we do. There is part of a poem that is often recited at ANZAC day services and I would like to share it with you all. It knows no ethnicity, no borders and no creed, it is very true to the heart: They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. Lest we forget. And lest we forget the fallen from the United States of America who fought to keep the world free for democracy! 💜

Do not regret not serving, war is truly the most atrocious thing humans have created. I value every veteran who bought into the idea they were fighting for American freedom, but after WW2 the only thing we ever fought for was money, oil, and global influence. America has had a disgusting and dark history in foreign policy since 1945 and it is worth studying our exploits to understand how we have ended up in the global climate we have today. Again, I respect and treasure our veterans, but they were served BS on a copper platter and cast aside to be replaced once they had served their usefulness.
