I don't get it. Did she stay away longer than she expected and her mother die of a broken heart? When she came back, her mother was already dead for a very long time and she was living the guilt. Is that what it is?

Beautiful! This is what happened to me in June. My mother passed before I could get home. My father passed three years before. No emptier feeling than to walk through the empty house you grew up in, going through all of the family items.

Generational trauma at its finest... She leaves not wanting anything to do with her mother or her fanatical beliefs, falls on hard times (extremely hard evidently, since its only been 19 yrs and the daughter looks wayyy older, which i think was supposed to tie in to the film, cuz the mother began aging and rotting as soon as the daughter arrived..? Just a theory , the daughter looked in her 40s at least.. Or, a different take- did the daughter leave, fall on hard times and started using drugs so heavily (which ages her) and shes saved up letters in her car, how is she getting mail if shes living in her car, making random dollar bills for cleaning windows.. she saved the letters from all the years prior, and decided shes hit rock bottom, her mom has a house and money - when she arrives she only imagines her mom is alive.. shes been dead for years and so has the house. So the ending scene of the dilapidated house, is actually what it looked like all along.. but she sits down ready to take the throne, in her new 'castle'.. bcuz its more than shes had or hoped for in years and shes also a dam nut. Or, the theories could both be true? Or, ive completely over-thunk the entire movie, trying to find a deeper meaning cuz im also a nut? We may never know folks. 😅

I think the movie was inspired by the japanese masterpiece movie "kowaidan ", whuch is the most wonderfull horor movue I have ever seen.

I think it means that she left home a lot of times due to Mom's upbringing, wanting to be out in the world and coming back always expecting her mom to be there with open arms,but the one time she did, mom was gone and she probably needed and wanted her more than ever and was too late

the movie is too ambigious, does it mean she came back and her mother was a ghost or did she have a mental illness and living in a unkept home for years as all the leaves in the rooms shows . I can go on to find many other reasons . the movie was not thougth out well and more clues should been putin so we know what exactly happened

Please would you share with me what takeaway you had from it that you liked it so much. I'm puzzled and feel like I'm missing something that makes it a masterpiece for me. I have a hard time processing it and putting it all together without having an audio description track for the blind/visually impaired. Even if you can get someone else to give input and describe what info can't be gleamed by just processing a work with only audio and your own intuitively derived awareness and prior knowledge. When you ask another person for help describing what is visually occurring, you get the info filtered through what they think and perceive is occurring, but while speaking about the visual data, the info will be delayed, and often it will start overlapping, and their description wiĺl be spoken over the actual audio dialogue of the work itself. It is just thst they aren't trained, or have the awareness of how critical it is to give succinct, meaningful only, non biased, visual information. On any of the big streaming platforms, they all have less than a fourth of their content available with an audio description option, and that's only for films from 2019-ish onwards. And from there, the odds get smaller for finding English language audio described options. None of the foreign films that are dubbed in English have an English audio description. They will have the option for the original language only. And the smallest amount of movies with audio description are horror. All of the older content, in any genre, all the classics, etc. do not have any available options for audio description
