This sword now comes in vg10 steel which is a stainless steel made in japan used for chef knives. 1% Carbon, 15% Chromium, 1% Molybdenum, 0.2% Vanadium, and 1.5% Cobalt. It is the most expensive of the 3 coming in at $198.

Would you say its the sharpest one
@theweaponscollectiveedge8632 жыл бұрын
@@erickestrada1212 d2 should be the sharpest one or at least the one that will retain an edge the longest. Stainless steels usually dull quicker.

Nice video. That's a might fine sword. I've got the United Cutlery Gladiator sword. Mine's a pawn compared to that with 1065 steel but the price tag on that one is only about $40. Either way, shaediversity estimates that in the real event that you actually had to use it for the purpose, these style of blades are actually the best for self-defense.

My Honshu Gladiator D2 sword arrived with a curved central ridge not aligned with the point of the sword, but rather finishing 1cm up from the point in one side of the blade. This is typical of the poor quality of United Cutlery products. Unfortunately, I read the reviews too late. Are you going to delete my comment again?

For those that are inexperienced with swords; those 4 holes that are just above the handgaurd will cause for stress. It's a massive weakpoint in the blade and will likely crack once you try to do something with it. It isn't steel like 1095 HC or 5160 spring steel, so it's basically an expensive wall hanger, not really meant to do something with it.
@theweaponscollectiveedge863 Жыл бұрын
I agree on the holes. No sword blade ever needs holes in it. Honshu needs to stop putting in decorative holes and think of practical design.
@GUNNER67akaKelt Жыл бұрын
I agree on the holes, but this version of the sword is made of D2 steel. A very hard wearing TOOL steel. A wall hanger it's not!

The Honshu line is designed for ‘zombie’ killing.. self defence. They aren’t meant to do heavy work they literally give you a leaflet explaining this

For a sword of that quality $180 is a great price . Did you ever look at Traditional Filipino Weapons and if so what did you think ? Double Star Fury was definitely " inspired " by one of their designs IMO .

Check out scorpion swords tactical gladius, in the test video the guy is hacking away at a piece of granite obviously the blade took some damage but wasn't totaled by any means
@BrotherZ3R02 жыл бұрын
No one is going to use this in battle vs armor, or hacking into cinder blocks, or whatever else someone wants to smash this into to prove its "good". I sincerely doubt that a gladius from 2,000 years ago would stand up to the expectations of naysayers. What is its purpose? I'm sure if you asked any member of any legion in the past... And put this in their hand... They would say this is a blade that is absolutely remarkable.
@sihilius2 жыл бұрын
@MGTOW Matty The best steel wont help you, if your blade got structural issues and every united cutlery blade has one, that makes it very likely for the tang to break off.
@sihilius2 жыл бұрын
@@BrotherZ3R0 no, they'd smash it into a log and it would break. then they'd have the laugh of their life.

I enjoyed the review, I’ve been on the fence on whether to get the d 2 steel for durability or just 7cr13 for my husband. Since i know he will hack with it outside. I going to get him the cr13 version and if abuses it i will get him the step up.
@theweaponscollectiveedge8632 жыл бұрын
Sounds good Freya, I think your husband will end the weight and feel of it which ever steel type you get. The 7cr13 will stay cleaner if he uses it and doesn't wipe it off. But both should hold up to light cutting.
@sihilius2 жыл бұрын
United Cutlery Swords are not any good. The Blade is very likely to break off when "abused" (a good sword should be able to take a bit of a beating) due to a construction issues with the handle. I hope nothing bad happened so far with that thing. Saidly such construction issues are very common with tacticool'ish blades. The only good swords with a somewhat similar theme that come to my mind right now are the "Zombie Tools" blades. They're a good bit more expensive but they are way more sturdy than that UC stuff and there is basically no posibility for the handle to break off.
@FreyaKennafr2 жыл бұрын
@@sihilius I later bought him a solid crafted blade from KultofAthena it was a better blade… a real blade and like you said not tacticallycoolish

@@crossingtheexile4937 Thanks for the info, I do believe that they are alittle on the brittle side. Keeping the rockwell hardness lower would help it from breaking but they probably won't change their heat treat.Sorry for your loss.

How sharp was it when you received it? The stainless model I purchased was arm having sharp! How does th D2 compare? Subscribed btw...
@theweaponscollectiveedge8633 жыл бұрын
It was very sharp, almost arm shaving sharp. D2 is a higher grade of tool steel that can retain an edge longer than stainless, and also can be tougher than 7CR13 stainless if the heat treat temper is done properly.
