I love your content sir, absolutely brilliant. Straight to the point and also humble enough to point out the faults on weapons you specialise in and give people a sense of what's best for self defence outside the walls of a dojo. That being said.... if anyone breaks into my house they will be greeted with a katana and a few seconds to get the F out. Excellent work as always. Keep it coming🙏🏻

I teach/train in HEMA & i would agree. Especially if you pair it w/ a small buckler type shield or another off hand weapon. I liked it so much i recently bought a 2nd one. I mostly carry mine as defense & as dispatching tool when im out hunting hogs. Though its definitely tough enough to chop through small tree limbs etc if need be. As far as its use for self defense i recommend studying & training the medieval treatises on dagger fighting as well as I.33 sword & buckler.

its actually a very valid question for those outside of the US where guns mostly are a non-option for HOME defense. With a high lumen flashlight for blinding (1000+ lm, like those from olight etc) and maybe a HDR 50 for longer range engagements so noone can say you didnt try to scare away the intruder before resorting to this, you have a great home defense package. Id argue a flashlight for blinding is better than 2 swords!

This is a WAY better sword,compared to the original ones! It's made of a better steel,(that is also 100% proper choice), made with better heat treating methods,than what they had back then! Add to the fact it is considered the deadliest sword in human history, and you get the best possible version,of the deadliest sword,only with 50$ THATS INSANE BRO!!!

Very interesting selection! It’s cool that it is affordable for almost anyone. Because of the length, as someone that loves working with escrima sticks, this seems like it would be a perfect fit, especially with two as you recommended.

You've sold me! I do agree with you that this would be a good option for self-defense in small spaces. That said, how would this double as a tool for yard work? How would this machete hold up? Stay safe and healthy. Peace

You're not the only one to praise this sword! I have that sword and the Schrade Priscilla. "Both" are light and fast but, the Priscilla is a single edge while the Combat Commander sword has two and a spiked pommel! I've given this sword to my sons and nephew. They don't cost an arm and a leg (another plus). No, it will not go up against another "actual" sword BUT, to keep it by your front door and or bedside when needed, it WILL DO the job! GREAT VIDEO!!! Subscribed too...

I was tempted to buy this, I went with their honshu version, in Canada this one you have sells for $75, the Honshu version was 125 plus tax and shipping. Perfect length for indoors or for the thick forrest when I go camping. Thanks for the video.

2:00 that gladius is concealable if you have it outside down diagonally across you chest. Much prefer this short sword over the Japanese swords.

I've got a Cold Steel Gladius machete, it's significantly heavier than an old jungle style. It's very stiff also, but with some springiness. It totaled and shipped for just under 40US from the 'Bay.

Just happened to see this. Actually I like the sword shaped machetes. They don't cost much, they are thin enough to fit in to any knife sharpener. I have this one and one of the Kopis machetes. Actually used them to chop trees and anything else I don't want growing too big in the yard. So durability is just as good as any regular machete. Cheap, easy to maintain, and I don't imagine you have to have any great amount of skill for it to remain an effective weapon.

Got one of those a few months ago. Ran it through my Ken Onion Work Sharp. Now its scary sharp. I have also added some of the silicon tape you wrap around leaky pipes. Makes for a very good solid grip, that won't turn on you. I have a full length Cowboy Duster, and yeah, its big enough :) Also since it is just one handed sword. I could use my big Bowie knife in my off hand. Or even something to use as a shield. Romans got it right. Oh, and it is primarily a stabbing sword. Think about how the Romans fought. No room too swing a sword side too side, Just up and down and stabbing. Good choice.

Sorry to burst that companys bubble but uh... Thats a Greek Xiphos not a gladius. Gladius is a straight edged stabbing sword used by the romans that curve edged sword or as commonly described "leafe shaped blade" is a greek hopolite short sword often used as a seco dary weapon to sparton hopolites in fact its an almost perfect representation of the xiphos only flaw being the width bit to wide but other than that yes it is a very good weapon to be used in self defence

Greek Xiphos (Ξίφος) pronounced Xephos (x sounds like xnot like z that I see many Americans pronounce it. Is a different sword mate. It's way longer and the blade edge lines are curved and not flat.Also the handle design on this,screams this is a Roman Gladius,as also the blade length and other details. So,I hate to say it,because I'm Greek,but you are wrong brother.

I like it. I always thought the Greek Kopis would be a good option. I also like the Filipino Ginunting. Not really a sword, but I think a kukri would also be effective, especially considering its history with the Ghurkas. What are your thoughts on using a wakizashi or maybe a ko katana?

👋Hello. I'm in agreement but like pirates that really fought in close range, they almost never fought with double edged swords because the high dangers of cutting oneself in chaotic circumstances. They used a Cutlass or Briquet sword. The modern interpretation being the single edged machete. In many states one can carry in your car a machete without any real problems & if stopped by the police you can say that you need it for agricultural reasons. Thank You for Your videos. They are Very informative. Take Care Now.👍

The gladius was born for all the reason why you chose it. Paired with a very big shield, Roman soldiers use them in formation and stab enemies in very close range I almost thought you would prefer Wakizashi tho, since it also met all the requirements and you're an expert at using them than western style blades
@leonnarzilarra8510
@leonnarzilarra8510 2 жыл бұрын
The Romans adapted the gladius from the Iberians. Makes me wonder what the Romans were using before they adapted the gladius. The Iberian falcata would be another good choice.
@longrider42
@longrider42 2 жыл бұрын
The Wakizashi, might be a good choice, but its not really for stabbing, like the Gladius. Plus being double edged, if one edge goes dull, you have the second edge. Or if some one grabs your sword, just pull and butcher that person's hand.

Katanas can stab too. and they're 2 feet longer. 2 experienced swordsmen in an arena, 1 with a katana, the other has a gladiator, My money is on the longer weapon.

Just my two cents on concealability: with a trench coat you can actually hide two huge swords, one on each side, but you are not gonna be sprinting anywhere, nor pass a basic pat down 😂
