I’ve been using homebridge via raspberry pi. So easy to setup and a fraction of the price. Think hoop is so overpriced

Amazing! I would agree if you have the skill and knowledge to set up a Raspberry Pi. Perhaps it seems more difficult than it is for many. Hoobs is a good solution for those who do not have coding knowledge. Appreciate you watching and sharing your opinion!

This is OUTSTANDING for a beginner! My HOOBS arrived yesterday. I attached the power and Ethernet cables and waited forever for the red light to come on. Never did. Thanks for explaining that step in the “official” instructions was wrong. Next, I waited forever for the QR code to appear to add the HOOBS to HomeKit. Never did. Thanks for explaining that was also wrong. I look forward to following your channel for more help!

Question - We have Ring Doorbell. Probably the only important device not on HomeKit. Wouldn’t it be easier since the wiring is there for the doorbell to just invest in and swap out a HomeKit compatible doorbell than spend the money on the HomeBridge?
@TheBradLloyd
@TheBradLloyd 2 жыл бұрын
In my opinion - yes. But some aren't as impressed by the HomeKit doorbell options (personally, I love the Logitech Circleview Doorbell). But for someone that's interested in HomeKit but has MANY non-HomeKit accessories, this is an option to consider.

@@TheBradLloyd Gotcha Brad. Thank you. I’m still in the early stages of the automation odyssey so for me anything we buy moving forward needs to be HomeKit compatible. Will consider the Logitech doorbell for sure.

Great video. So I’ve seen this on several channels I watch and I always wonder if this is worth it. It seems like a lot of work and lots could go wrong. Also doesn’t this defeat part of the security that HomeKit is supposed to bring?
@TheBradLloyd
@TheBradLloyd 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Eric, this is a useful system when there is a need. I would always go with a native HomeKit accessory whenever possible, but there are some products that don't have HomeKit. IMO if you stay with the larger name plugins the risk is low (not saying 0 though). Hopefully this will be less of an issue in the future, with Matter.

Hey Brad, I’ve been watching your videos for a while now. You’ve been doing great and it’s very informative. Just wanted to know how does this affect the privacy and security that home kits provide? Are the items connected to this not as secure? And will it affect the items that are connected directly through HomeKit?

yes, its not like homebridge reprograms devices to not communicate to their normal cloud home.

Thanks Francisco - Though I think the risk is low, It's definitely "at your own risk"... Apple has certification standards for a reason so it's worth being cautious. Maybe not a big deal for sensors or switches, but definitely for cameras.

So which plug In did you use? I got everything in the HomeKit successfully, and the IR remote control I set up with the hub mini works just fine in HomeKit, but the Switchbot Bots themselves do nothing with activated in HomeKit. They work fine in their native app, but ignore the commands when sent from the Home app. I have cloud services turned on, and I read where the device ID needs to be included on the Hoobs Bridge/PlugIn config page, but the only ID I can find is the BLE Mac Address. I put that in but am still having no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

I had a question about which application should I use for Home Kit, I ended up downloading these 2 apart from standard HomeKit 1.) Home+ 2.) Controller Which one do you suggest will work best?

Quick question I’m a beginner to HomeKit or should I say apple home haha. My question is what would you recommend, hoobs or hoobs pro? Should I wait for the pro version or get the current model? What would you do in my position? Thoughts?
@TheBradLloyd
@TheBradLloyd Жыл бұрын
Hi Demetrius, great question. Hopefully with matter there will be less of a need to bring products into homekit as eventually more will be compatible. The Pro looks promising with thread and matter however, it is a trade off with a much higher cost. It comes down to how many devices do you really think you’ll use that are not native to homekit and how much are you willing to pay. If you can swing, the extra cost, the pro is probably worth it. Hope this helps!

I love the iPhone, the Apple Watch, the MacBook etc... But, like always, we have to stay in the Apple environment to make it work great. However, when it comes homekit it means to going full Apple to get a connected home. Which may be pretty expensive and some Homekit compatible devices are not the best option in the market.

It’s always been a struggle, but over the last couple of years prices have really started to come down. With matter around the corner, I expect it will get even easier (with time).

Great info, thanks. Seems you need to really want to use a device to go through the time and expense of implementing this solutiion. I am new to Homekit, but my goal is to see how far I can get with a THREAD only network. Seems new THREAD devices are coming in 2022.
@TheBradLloyd
@TheBradLloyd 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Lysander! I do agree, this totally solves a problem however, HOOBS is not the ideal first option if you can get a native homekit accessory. That's always going to save time and potentially money. I am excited for Matter and more thread devices, though it's still too early to know how readily available these products will be and how it will impact the cost. 2022 could be really exciting for Homekit!. 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

@@TheBradLloyd I am into Smart Homes, not Alexa. Alexa dominates voice control with her many inexpensive form factors. Apple Home provides a sharp clean UI for app control on mobile devices. The key is finding the items that work together natively with all three AI's not just focusing on one or trying to find ways to shoehorn the best products into the worst platform.
