My dad hated the sound of these things so much I remember him buying a graphite lubricant tube for me to use to keep them from squeaking.

Just wanted to say that the four missile carrier of the VAMP MkII was for Air Defense. The VAMP MkII in one of the comic books was different in that it had the two boxes of six rockets like the Wolverine. I believe I even saw one released before when I was a kid.

I had the two VAMP Mk I (one straight arm Clutch, one swivel arm clutch) vehicles, one VAMP Mk II, the Sears set, and two Stingers. I used the stickers from the Mk II VAMP and put it on the Sears VAMP. I took the panels off of one of the Stingers and put it on the Sears VAMP with the Mk II stickers. I was very anal in middle school (wife says I still am lol). I then had a Stinger like a VAMP Mk I, and I had a Stinger Mk II. I had two VAMP Mk 1 vehicles, a VAMP Mk 1.5 with armored gull-wing doors, and a VAMP Mk II with VAMP Mk I stickers. My dad worked right next to a Toys R Us and came home with small toys all of the time. He would have the catalog in his pocket and check off items. I loved my motor pool. Great review of fantastic nostalgic toys.

I really can't recall if you've hit on the "Worlds Without End" two-parter from Sunbow, but you would do justice to it if you can put the alternate dimensions thing aside and review it as a purely genius plot/development standpoint in an era where cartoons didn't do such things. Clutch was an integral part of it, and some might agree, a proper sendoff for him and a couple other classic Joes.
@tonyjackson7610

a little trivia, you mention Ronald Tadur, who was used as a real name for the Joe Dusty, and in the cartoon they changed his name to Dusty Rudat, which was Tadur backwards.
@tonyjackson7610
@tonyjackson7610 8 жыл бұрын
oh and the Vamp Mk 2 being a desert vehicle and Dusty being a desert trooper seems to insinuate Ronald saw or was a fan of desert combat.

I might be wrong but I believe Tan Clutch may have been seen driving the APC in the comic book. I want to say the issue is somewhere in the 50's, the one with the Cobra Pogo Ball on the cover.

I get the impression the folks who made the cartoon didn't care much for Clutch. He barely does anything in the intial '83 miniseries and when he does it's just in the service of a couple of sight gags. He has almost no lines and is kind of clumsy. In later epidodes he just appears in crowd scenes as little more than infantry. He just runs into battle holding a rifle with a bunch of other guys while someone else drives his vehicles. It's kind of sad. He also has a Sothern accent and sounds nothing like the Jersey Guy that I would imagine. He finally gets to be fairly prominent in the two-part episode "Worlds Without End" but that was just so they could write him out of the series. And man, do they write him out. They drop him off in another dimension. No, really. For those who don't know, the cartoon and the comic book were... different from each other.
@HCC788
@HCC788 8 жыл бұрын
+JayFamous13 Yes, they were slightly different. :) I did notice in clips of the cartoon that he was running with the grunts while someone else was driving the Vamp Mk II.

Not to prompt another rival video with RetroBlasting (which both Night Raven videos were great), but I noticed the way your missile box was mounted in the disputed "upside down position." I'm in the stance that the "radiator" detail should be underneath because that's how mine was put together. Neither way hinders the elevation, but what are your thoughts for the radiator detail being on top?
@HCC788
@HCC788 8 жыл бұрын
+Deadduck2pt0 Hm. Interesting. I never really thought about it, but I've always thought the vent should go on top. But the instructions show it being assembled with the vent on the bottom. I stand corrected, even though I'm sitting.

Sure, you'd think Clutch and Grunt would work well except Grunt can't stand Clutch because of that one mission when Grunt went out and left his pet goldfish in Clutch's care and it died. Ever since they have never been on an op. together......EVER
