I love this song! I miss Tom!! If anyone ever went down swinging it was Tom Petty. Thanks.

The song is actually in the key of G major not D major as stated at 8:01. If interested in playing the harmonica part he is using a G harp first position.

Great video. Nice breakdown of the key guitar elements plus a little theory to reinforce what Mike Campbell is doing on the solo. I also think your comments on Tom Petty's life at this period and the album were spot on. You deliver so much information in 14 minutes! Greatly appreciated.

I'm glad that you're doing more Tom Petty stuff. I had mentioned long ago that you should do Tom Petty lessons. There are so many good songs to choose from that are fairly simple to teach I hope you continue thanks

Thx for doing this tune, I just spent a week in car driving across country listening to Tom Petty RAdio ,was in Colorado when I heard this and it hit me, I play guitar too, been a Petty fan since my childhood, but overlooked this album...??..

Definitely check out Counting on You and Room at the Top, which are the other two great songs from this album and which in my opinion are two of the greatest, most underrated Tom Petty songs ever.

@@Hoodrio well Cool Sir I'll check those tunes,your a Good guitar player, I recently went and learned about 10 Petty songs, his simple approach and beauty of his lyrics...but,I must say,he was underrated as guitarist, he uses some cool licks and refrains, Mike Campbell is Killer, that's well known, but Petty himself could get down, and going on the road again this weekend and will be listening to Tom Petty Radio again,another thing I've noticed, his tunes sound better while Driving ⛽I want to read that book you got there too,be cool,Rich

Thanks, man. You not only taught me a song; you opened my mind up to realistic arpeggios. Intellectually, I "knew" what they were, but you made them real ("implementable"). Thanks again!

Hey Hoodrio, on the D try putting hammer on the pinky on the 3rd string 4th fret then straight to the C then G back to D
@michaelnolan7435 жыл бұрын
I've always played it that way, it follows the piano line, which is another great feature of this song. Hoodrio: thanks for the lesson. I've always made those leads out to be more complex than they actually are. Mike Campbell--master of simplicity, playing just what the song needs. Agree that Echo is a great/horribly under-rated album. Throw in "Free Girl Now" and the title track and the first side is just a killer. "Room at the Top" made me cry real tears the first time I played the album ("I wanna reach out... and touch your heart").

Nice. Remember to drone that D string along with the higher notes :)
