Grew up on the North side in the 50's and 60's. Manufacturing started leaving and the city went to hell. GE, New Process Gear, Ford, Crouse Hinds, Solvay Process and one that made it til a couple years ago that working summers kept my student loans miniumal, Crucible Steel. But living in Florida, I can still get my Heid's coneys in the form of Hoffman snappy grillers at Publix. My dad knew why I had mud on his tires days after a rain when I took my girlfriend to Heids then across the street to Onondaga Lake the night before.

I grew up in the hood here (south side). Was a shit hole then and is a shit hole now. There's literally nothing good there. I left when I graduated high school and never moved back. I've come back a handful of times to visit friends and it just gets worse and worse. Businesses closing, crime increasing, more people leaving. Speaking of people, those I know that have stayed have made nothing out of themselves. Not a damn thing. Depressing as all shit. Nothing grows there and nothing thrives. It's a dead place in soul and spirit. I blame the politicians. They have used the inner city and milked it for all its political worth. They have driven the companies away. They do nothing for the kids in the hood (I was one of them). On the state level they have destroyed the state with crime (bail reform), overbearing taxes, and little to no economic or job growth. Seriously, fuck that place. It's a shame its part of America.
@collinsmith66112 жыл бұрын
I was born and raised on the east side(east sider). I too can relate growing up in the inner city. I got out of there in 1999. You are right man and very accurate. I knew in high school I would have to flee to survive and try to make something of myself or be doomed to that life. The state milked that city to fund NYC issues. I had a fun childhood even when poor upbringing and truly missed my friends and the vibes,but I know that was a different time back then. Everyone was cool, I had friends of all backgrounds and we partied, never experienced racism until I moved away from Syracuse to be honest. All my friends were motivational in inspiring, but it's TRUE what you stated.. The people that never leave get beat down and used up by that city, including a few of my friends. I went home to visit in the fall and truly loved that time of year, it was always my favorite time of the year and still it gives me a energy of home.. I wish Syracuse would rise back up and rebuild. I would love to go home, but I know it fucked up city and hard to get high paying jobs with my skills.( electrical contractor). Stay up family!!

I lived there for 3 years recently. At the shelter and the Y. Syracuse may not seem bad when you’re driving through, watching, or even visiting. But if you live and walk around there, every single place in this video is a big risk. People just don’t care anymore, and so many junkies. Stabbings and shootings every day now. Get mugged downtown in broad daylight. Good ole bail reform just lets criminals do whatever they want now. Stay safe!

I imagine that most people are basing their negative comments about Syracuse because of the graffiti-covered building on Tully and Wyoming streets. This building is a legal graffiti area where local artists are free to paint. But I admit, it makes things look really bad. I don't have a problem with a legal spot for graffiti artists, but it needs to be monitored so windows aren't busted and neighboring buildings aren't harmed. It also should be in areas where the artwork enhances a neighborhood, not detracts from it.
