What amazes me is how you shape the shoes by just “eyeballing “ , the shoe to hoof is perfect match. Unless I’m missing something that not shon on video.

When nailing, why strike the nail several times and then strike the shoe? Always wondered that. Similarly, why bounce your hammer off the anvil before striking the shoe?

It's interesting to watch h several different farriers work. I watch one that likes to spin his knives and rasps around in his hands. Another breaks in two the shoe shaped section of hoof as he's nipping it off.

After watching these videos I'm curious. What is the purpose of burning the shoe on the hoof before nailing it?

No idea, but maybe it's something to do with him making 2 huge cuts off the sides immediately after. Probably the heat softens up the material to make cutting easier.

The term is hot shoeing; look that up for more detailed info but another reason is that it kills germs to make sure there won’t be an infection under the hoof

Why do you burn the horses hoof with the shoe? Wouldn’t it hurt the horse and what are the things sticking out at the end that he flies done on the front of the hoof.

The hoof has no nerve endings, so burning it to test shape and improve fit does not hurt. The things sticking out at the end of the video are the ends of the nails that he uses to attach the shoe to the hoof

The hoof is a big solid mass made of the same stuff as fingernails- there’s a solid inch of hard stuff so the underlying soft tissue doesn’t feel the burning just as it doesn’t feel the cutting away of the bottom layer of the hoof itself The advantage of hot shoeing is that it creates an extra smooth surface for the shoe interface and also kills any germs on the shoe area surface to prevent infection risk

Usually not. Hoves are similar to our fingernails. They grow longer so the farrier trims them from time to time and puts new shoes on. Also as far as I know u can fix some posture problems depending on how u cut the hoves. Same as with special shoes for humans I‘d think

The hoof has no nerve endings, imagine if your toenail was an inch thick that’s what a hoof is. Hot shoeing creates a smooth surface and kills germs to prevent infection. Don’t worry- if the horse felt any pain in this, it wouldn’t let the farrier continue; horses are a very vigilant animal and a kick from a horse can kill or seriously injure a person

The purpose is to create a smooth interface surface between the hoof and the shoe and to seal the cut horn tubules, making them less likely to dry out in a dry climate or take on moisture and soften in a wet environment. ... Hot shoeing also helps stabilize shoes with clips.
