I use the good tape, but I also have big hands, and I climbed for 6 years so I got good at taping. The trick is to use half of the width of the tape (instead of the full width like you showed) and basically wrap your thumb in like an X pattern. If you do it right, you'll have full coverage on the inside of your thumb but you'll still be able to see your knuckle on the back. It's not as fast as the full wrap, but it holds up a lot better.

Thank you. I'm one of those that suffers from small handslexia. Barely can touch the top of my nail around the bar. Feels.

Ive made my hook grip less painful in a sense by making a fist with your thumb inside and just making as tight of fist as possible, and i just do it when im walking around or at work. My hook grip is a lot less painful after doing that.

Calgary Barbell that’s awesome! When I seen you started hook gripping 800lbs, I needed to find out how ... so I found the same video from Clint and I thought it was great that you shared it with your followers and gave the proper credit - Cheers!

Thx to your channel started to pull sumo for a few weeks. Also noticed yesterday, my quad causing my hand to want to open. Which you mentioned happens with alternate grip. Going to suck it up and start hook grip. Searched up taping thumbs on hook and you came up. What a fantastic channel thx for great info.

I find it hard to get a good grip on some of the barbells at the gym I'm going to. Even with chalk and attempting the hook grip, the knurling is too smooth and it slips out of my hands. So frustrating!

For hook grip only my thumb joint aches once and awhile and if I chalk up for deadlifts it feels like all my calluses are going to rip off but I am using the west side rogue barbell too so I don't really have to chalk up much

tape works well for olympic lifting because by definition the pulls done in olympic lifts are sub maximal, impressive feats of strength yes, what i mean by sub maximal is that the olympic lifters clean and jerking 650lbs could no doubt very easily deadlift in the 900s. these are extremely strong individuals, it's just that the movement itself requires sub maximal weight compared to the lifters absolute strength.

QnA: Hi Brice, do you push with your arms when you go from the bottom of the squat? I mean...you go down to the bottom of the squat, push your hands against your back and when you go up, you push with your hands like you are pressing. This cue gave me instantly 10+ kg Btw. What is your height? Love from Czech Republic :)

I'll watch this when I get home from work, but in the mean time, I've got some questions regarding your 16 week program I'm starting in about a week. Some of the exercises you specify total reps or reps per side, and some of the you don't (like 1 arm db rows). Is it safe to assume it's per side? Am I good to do elbow health curls every session? I usually do one set of either light weight db, straight bar, hammer curls in 20rep range just to get elbow tendinitis at bay. Can I do romanians instead of sldl? I hate them and I find my position collapses a lot in the sldl, or maybe that's why I should do them. When you have a set of 3x6 at 9RPE (for example), RPE increases with each set. Should I lower the weight to stay at 9RPE each set, or is the goal for the last set to be a 9RPE? I've seen both approaches in programs, so I was wondering which it is you are prescribing. Little surprised there's no slingshot bench! I hope you can answer these, as a reply or in video, thanks!

Small hands make it tough. Long arms make the bench tough. Long torso makes the squat tough for some people. Gotta play to your strengths and work your ass off at the stuff you're not gifted at.

Probably because it hurts so bad. I get that. Just gotta grit and bear it tbh, and get a bit more used to the sensation in your hands.

so if the hook grip hurts you, then why are you doing it? Guess I dont understand the benefits compared too under/over grip?
@yg78t76t7
@yg78t76t7 2 жыл бұрын
Over and under creates huge muscle imbalances, makes it more likely to round your back due to favoring one side and the risk of a bicep tear is always there when doing over under grip.

@calgarybarbell
@calgarybarbell 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I don't think it will cause any long-term damage, and your thumb is just applying pressure to the back of the fret-board anyways right? So if it's extra strong and calloused it just means you can hit harder breakdowns.
