Thanks for information on Baker's catalog. I have grown celosia or dragon breathe this year and they are great for autumn color in the garden. Happy planting,Steph!

I fell in love with Baker's Creek about 3 years ago too, that free shipping! In the past I have grown Pink Senorita Zinnia, Killimanjaro Marigold, Blue Monday Salvia, Paradiso Echinacea, Polar bear zinnias, along with several varieties of sunflowers. After hearing your recommendations this fall I ordered Atomic purple gomphrena, queen lime orange zinnia,and frosted salmon poppy. I added agastache too after finding one at a local garden center that had a heavenly scent and color. Bakers creek typically throws in a free pack of seeds with your order, and their seeds germination rate is very high. Thank you for all the info you share on your channel, I love watching, especially your own garden tours and the shopping trips.
@HookedandRooted2 жыл бұрын
Yes!! I have tried many of the same varieties and agree!! I'm trying the polar bear zinnias this year also, and some agastache and hyssop!! So excited for the 23' garden. Thank you so much for being here, and your kind words and support of my channel. Glad to have you along. Happy Holidays!!
Thanks Steph for introducing me to another seed catalog. I don't think there is such a thing as too many seed catalogs. Hummmm...anyway, your enthusiasm has rubbed off on me and I may try the Gomphrena (sp?). Isn't it funny, we put our gardens to sleep for the winter and as soon as that is done we are shopping for spring. 😄

Thanks for great info. Will you share your seed planting schedule? Would like to know when you planted the Gomphrena and did you winter sow any?
@HookedandRooted2 жыл бұрын
Hi Renn! I do plan to share when I seed start. My winter sowing usually begins around February and March. Unless there's a seed that needs cold stratification. Then you could get those out already. I have a winter sowing Playlist if your interested. As for the gomphrena, I will be starting those via direct sowing once the last frost has past. I'm thinking around 1st week of May.

I also buy from bakers creek. They are reliable and a high quality grower. I agree that each seed pack is reasonably priced, but its worth noting that some seed packets have only 10 seeds and others could have 50. You have to read the description. Also, even with reliable seed providers you can occasionally grow a deviant hybrid/cross polinated seed. I honesty believe Baker Creek is better than most, but i once grew 12 Chinese Five color peppers and one was not true to the heirloom characteristics

Hi Kim, no shipping cost is a huge plus for me. Do you have video or can you describe how you prep your soil for the gomphrena seeds? How often do you water in the beginning and what month do you plant the seeds? I am so interested in growing this!
@HookedandRooted2 жыл бұрын
Hi Karen, I don't do anything to prepare the soil. My soil is already pretty healthy from the years of amending, but from what I've read they aren't fussy about soil. They just prefer well draining soil. I soaked the seeds overnight, and the next day I went ahead and planted one seed, just by poking it into the soil to the recommended depth. I planted 1 seed every 6-8" and watered regularly until seedling plants were about 10" tall. Then u backed off on watering and they were on their own. Hope this helps.
