Dude can drive and build! But what I’m more impressed with is how with it he is while being no where near pretentious. Seems like Kiely’s truly enjoying the sport and not trying to be something. I’d hang around this dude way before a lot of the personalities these days.

For those of us who really know the MoPar parts bins, it's probably possible to do this with all 'factory' parts, but no where near as easily and as budget friendly as done here. 13:42 - Back in the day,... On dirt roads, at much slower speeds. Factory suspension would slide on dirt, or maybe in the rain, but equally ready to bite and put you in to a curb or the trees, with the rear end hopping around more then Bugs Bunny on Acid. The real surprise is that the Satellite hasn't rejected that heart transplant - there's a reason most MoPar guys won't drop an LS in, the cars destroy them, almost out of spite,... so he has to be beating on the motor for the car to let it stay.

I used to drift my moms 78 Caprice on an old dirt/gravel road just past the high school in Alabama. My buddy had his moms ol LeSabre sideways a few times. Lost two spoke hubcaps one evening. This was back in the late 80s and we hadn't even heard of "drifting". I don't know what we called what we were doing on that gravel road but it sure was fun. We all grew up around dirt track racing so we were just imitating those guys. My old best friend, Bobby Joe Robinson is still dirt track racing today.

I've seen some Satellites, they make other cars look like little speedboats compared to their aircraft carrier presence. I can't imagine them going sideways, but with this build, my imagination just got blown away with this gigantic slidin' 2-ton hunk of reality. This is the antithesis of all traditionally drift and I love it, Carry on sir, carry on!!!!

As someone who grew up all around B Bodies, this was my favorite car at gridlife BY FAR.
@ImpactjunkyАй бұрын
The 68-70 Mopar B body was an excellent high performance car platform that lent itself well to tuning and modifications. I've been daily driving a lime green 68 with this same style of hood and wheels for about 15 years now and Motor Trend/Car Craft picked it as one of the top ten rides of the Hot Rod Power Tour! The unibody is very stiff, light and well balanced and the factory front suspension is fully adjustable for height, stiffness, alignment etcetera and the factory rear "super stock" springs are super stiff and also adjustable via clamps and shackles. Mine has a 400 HP carb swapped 5.9 Magnum with a big cam by Hughes Engines in Illinois. Mine is built to hook though, not slide. I've got it down to a 1.8 second 60 foot time which is faster than most hot AWD cars and is the same as a Tesla Model S and only a tenth of a second behind the Model S Plaids 1.7 second 60 foot time. I also recently installed the lightweight aluminum quick ratio steering box and steering arms that came in 1970 T/A Challengers and AAR Cuda's that were designed for road racing, this dropped 40 pounds off the front end and gave the car a responsive 12:1 steering ratio with enough wheel angle to rub the frame rails at full lock, and I also had the front end professionally rebuilt and aligned recently with red poly bushings and KYB gas shocks. It drives excellent for a 60 year old car and the only modern mods are red bushings, gas shocks and sticky tires.

Drove a 69 sport satellite for years 318 torque lite. A little cam and it sounded good at a red light😁 Great road car!!
@SoI_Badguy25 күн бұрын
The 66-67 B bodies are also a nice alternative if youre feeling different. They're generally cheaper as well.
@Impactjunky24 күн бұрын
@@SoI_Badguy Yep and most of the time the 66-67's are actually lighter too. Although I'm not certain if the brakes/suspension are identical to the 68-70 models.
@SoI_Badguy24 күн бұрын
@@Impactjunky the only annoying thing is that the low fenders on the rear make taking especially large wheels/tires on and off annoying. You can still fit a 295/50 on a 15×10 though, if your offset is right.
@Impactjunky24 күн бұрын
@@SoI_Badguy I've heard about that before. I love the wheel house space in my 68 though! When I first got the car I had 265 50 15s on 15x8's all the way around. That's a huge amount of tire for the front of an old car and it never rubbed! Later after I swapped the engine I switched to 295 50 15's in the rear and whatever I could find for the front. Now more recently I've moved up to a 285 70 15 in the rear which is 30.7 inches x 12.6 inches on my 15x8's. I put those super tall tires on it to make the 3.55 gears with no overdrive more reasonable on the highway now that I'm driving 700 miles twice a month to see my girlfriend.

The way it sits is so perfect. Crazy that these were mid-size cars in the 60s/early 70s
@SchoolforHackersАй бұрын
The difference between models is so much more than grills and trim! Sway bars(or none), fat torsion bars or skinny, differential sizes and ratios, motor options, tranny options, 14 or 15 wheels, bench or bucket, console or not, shifter choices. Want a 440 B body with a 4 speed, pistol grip shifter, 4:10s, 15s, buckets and console? That’s a GTX. Ed: Yes I had one (1968). Yes I sold it. I’m not crying, you’re crying.

I've been a fan of the late 60s and early 70s Mopars, but I only just noticed the intricately formed rear window glass. A triple curve mix of concave and convex forms that seems quite unique.

The GTX was its own package that is basically a high-end Plymouth Road runner on steroids. Speaking as an " old guy", yes- we used to do that back in the day with MAN sized cars. If you did too much on asphalt/ concrete, you went to jail, but, you did it all the time on gravel roads & nobody gave a fuck. Good ol' boys were drifting LONG before it was " cool". Mine was a '69 charger with a 440 ( drilled slightly over) with a healthy cam & weiand 2 four tunnel ram. Had to run 1/2" fuel line & even that wasn't enough when you pressed the go-fast pedal.

I used to have a 1980 Buick Century wagon, and as I live in Norway we get snowy cold winters, thus we have separate wheels for summer and winter seasons, and for the Buick I bought some decent studded winter tires, and I was shocked at how easy it was to drift the Buick on snow... It's still stuck in my brain how I messed with some kids at an empty parking lot, they seemed to be filming themselves, young guys probably fresh with a license and their first winter driving, they'd parked up with their Volvo 740, and was holding a camera, looked like they were checking their video or something (it's long enough ago that phone cameras weren't really much of a thing.) And I ended up just getting my Buick out sideways and held it, doing circles around them, just holding the drift (on snow obviously) and being almost shocked at how easy it was to do, I'd always had RWD cars, a lot of old Volvos, and a Mustang II, but the Buick... was the best winter car I'd driven that wasn't AWD, obviously my uncles 80s Pajero, and my dad's 1990 Bronco was better on snow, but out of cars I personally owned, the Buick was incredibly easy to handle and control on snow (with studded winter tires that is.) So it's not too hard to believe it when the guys says it's surprisingly easy to drift that Satellite, length often can mean it's easier to control, take the Bronco my dad had, great on snow in 4WD, but in RWD/2WD the Bronco is so short it's really hart to control it while skidding, a longer car is easier to control while going sideways, obviously there's limits there too, something can be too long as well, thus won't change direction very easily, making it harder to control again. Sorry for the random ADHD tangent.
