I was practically born in a Datsun 710, I used to spend so much time in an old wrecked 610 we had behind the house when I was a kid and my father had several 620 and 720 pick-ups as far as I can remember. Owning my own Datsun 510 or 240z has been a dream of mine but they are incredibly rare here in Canada since they were very prone to rust and Canada's weather did a number on them.

@@travismassingale7801 Z Car Garage is a small, independent shop. They don't "have something against" any model Z car. They simply don't have the bandwidth to work on every single car made by Nissan. Remember, the VG engine is also in the mighty Z32, which they specialize in. Many Z31s have come through the shop, before they had social media: www.zcarblog.com/2011/11/03/performance/red-z31-love-trevors-300zx.html Same goes for S130 cars, or any other Z generation you can think of. I saw the original BRE Datsun 510 in John Griswold's garage, in Berkeley, in the winter of '78 or '79. I was visiting my friend, Stephen Cole, who did restoration work for Griswold during the off season of racing. I believe he was part of the crew that built, maintained and raced it- the brown BRE. (still in Griswold's collections ?) Thinking Rob Fuller, in San Jose, or you, might want to track this one down, because it should not be lost or forgotten. (Think about Stephen taking apart and restoring Jackie Stewart's Formula 1 car that Jackie won the world championship in! . After Stephen had completed it, Griswold rented out Sears Point for a couple of hours and they went to test it out - and then put it into storage.) I'm sending this information along after watching the Z Car Garage segments from May '21. Stephen had sold me his original green '70 Datsun 510 for $300 dollars, when we met in Sonoma County while I was attending Sonoma State working on my first masters in psychology. I drove that car for nearly 30 years, and the rebuild he did on the original L16 engine lasted nearly 240 K miles. I also acquired a '72 wagon, which became our 2nd family car, both being part of our family and my two sons first cars, well into the mid 2000's. I'm now 70 and still wish I had not sold my beautiful, yellow, modified station wagon with the factory tinted glass, center console and factory tach.....with the DT mags. I very much appreciate your keeping their stories alive and well and running around our streets and highways. Thank you.

I grew up admiring John Morton and the BRE 240Z and 510. I'm a little confused as to whether the BRE Datsun is or isn't the actual car. At 21:42, he says that the chassis is gone and the surviving parts are on a different chassis. Then later Larry states that this is "THE" car. If the original chassis is gone, it is no longer "THAT" car. If I owned an original Shelby GT350R race car from 1965-66, wrecked it to the point the unibody is not salvageable, took the parts and put them on a standard 65-66 Mustang, it would no longer be a Shelby. It's a beautiful car and I love seeing it at vintage events, but honestly don't claim it's the actual BRE/Morton 240 if it's not the original unibody.

I've made exacting replica paintjobs of that BRE 240-Z so many times in so many games I've lost count. Every game with custom paint livery ability and the old Z car, I've made that livery as exact as I can get it within the limitations of the games. I've got 2 different 1/25th scale plastic Revell models of it sitting in my closet waiting to be built. If anybody plays Forza Horizon 2, 3, or 4, that livery is in the game under my name. I've also done the BRE 510's as well.

I used to road race a C-prod prepped 240Z in vintage in the Midwest and had a chat with the Gerry Mason Sr., owner of the #3 sister car, in 97-ish at Road America, about the Morton car. IIRC he said the unibody was just too far gone to restore, something about a bad side swipe, and half the shell was tore up bad, so a rebody makes sense. John's accident at Daytona was not surprising and this is partly why I decided to hang up the gloves with vintage - unibody repair can be quite challenging and most modern guys will treat the shell as if it's a disposable item.

OMG Where has this shop been!? My father has a red 1971 240Z that is in fairly good shape. I think he has been looking to have the paint redone for ages because its starting to crack in spots. Originally, he had located a shop in Arizona that was going to do it, but if there is one in the bay area that can do the work, I'd like to look into that too to save him the trouble of driving out there. I think the style looks the same as the "butters" one since the rear quarter panel badges have "240Z" written out rather than just the circular Z badge. This one has the rear defrosts and an electric antenna that hasn't been working right for decades. I'll definitely shoot Rob a message when I get a chance.
@gav240z3 жыл бұрын
9:21 no rear defrost. What's funny is that in Australia majority of our cars had the clear glass. Where as for North American cars it was a 69 model feature it would appear. In Australia the vertical defrost glass is desirable because that's rare for us. :D
