I owned one of the 50 replica pace cars in 1972. The 50 were distributed to Southern California Datsun dealers to sell. I bought mine from Redlands Datsun. They painted the top for me in solid blue instead of having the white circle for no charge. Mine was sold without the stickers other than the painted Datsun on front fenders. I still have a couple of Polaroid pictures of mine. Unfortunately I traded it in around 1976. I have never seen one since.

Thank you for showing klassic fabrication and explaining there products!! I think it’s extremely important to know that there are people still passionate about older Japanese cars and making parts locally here to be able to restore and give us hope to save the older cars that practically all of them got crushed due to rust. I can tell you from my experience that there were many cool Toyota and Nissan cars that died because of rust and no parts available to fix them.

I love them things. If I had my choice of any of my past rides. The early 240 60 or 80 would be my choice. Iv had like 8. Granted some were so rusted out you could find your way home by the rust dust it left behind. But now Even one of them would make me happy. I have the skills and knowledge to do a Resto Mod. Damn I miss Niles. Anyone who's had a Z will know why I named my F.I. 280 that. I actually used to beat the hell out of this guy who had a late 70s Vette. The road had a fairly good balance of straight and curve just not enough quite enough straight there at the end . But like I told him. When he would get mad and ask. How the Hell are you beating me. He had the Vette but just didn't understand that Good tires. Knowing your cars braking ability a Independent Suspension and Horses are better than just Horses alone on a road course type race. I'd hear him behind me that straight axle suspension about to let go of the road. Hit the Apex Brake late come out hard and bring a pair. Was always my answer.Honestly another driver might of got me but the sound his rear tires made as he tried to close told me probably not. The poor man's Ferrari.

Off topic question, but for as long and as much as autofocus has been an active channel, why is the outro music still startlingly loud; especially for us headphone users? sometimes I end up falling asleep and get unpleasantly woken up by it. Like the audio for normal tone of voice is 9 times out of 10 pretty quite, so then we forget after a 40+ minute episode and well, that only amplifies the obnoxious volume of the outro. Please adjust the volume levels or balance them out to more reasonable levels…

Love this channel. As for #355 being all OG, interesting as it's not displayed as such. Bumpers aren't original, they are the smooth units, no bumperettes or rubber guards on them either. The choke knob is a later date issued unit, the metal rivets holding the taillight panels aren't the original black plastic units, many engine bay hoses have been replaced, the master cylinder and booster have been replaced, the ignition coil, plug wires, and battery cables all replaced, I could probably go on. Was this a restoration at one point, there's just too many new items. It's a very fine Z and presentation is up there, but many changes have been made. This is why its so difficult to find an untouched early 240Z, once you start to service them and find original bits are in need of replacement, you upset the "its only original once" theme.
@bettykutchera42523 жыл бұрын
#355 is a "work in progress". It is in the "modified street" category at ZCON as several things are not original as you have pointed out. The choke knob is the original knob that arrived on the car in 1970. As you know, it is extremely difficult to locate some of the parts needed for this car to be "stock". We are not even attempting to do that.
@MrDatsun3 жыл бұрын
@@bettykutchera4252 Understood, its common to see them getting away from true original form. Someone must have swapped the choke knob, as its a '72-'73 design. Same with the shift boot, later tie style model. If you wanted the earlier boot, its available as a reproduction. Nice to see the first gen hood bumpers still in place next to the wiper cowl and a swapped plastic fan instead of the original metal unit which was known for prematurely wearing out water pump bearings. None the less, its a very nice 240 and awesome to see in this overall condition. I hear ya, some of the earliest parts known to be on the '69's and early '70's are near impossible to source and if someone has what you're looking for expect to pay up. Your seats may have fresh vinyl covers on them, but do you remember seeing or having the black plastic curved corner protectors on the seats which were held in by three small screws to the frame? Those were scrapped on many early 240's due to them pinching the back of the leg once the seats support started to give too much. I had them on one of my early 240's and removed them as they started to crack. Those are also offered as a reproduction part. If you wanted to return the aftermarket semi-power antenna to the original bullet style design, those can be sourced. You can also source an emissions sticker for under the hood if you want to showcase that as well even though there's limited smog equipment remaining on your Z. You can also return to all the braided engine hoses if you prefer that look as well. The one item I have been searching for is original issue spark plug wires, those are hard to come by and only real useful if one is still running a points distributor. Glad to see this at any rate, its refreshing to view more original Z's over all the modified one's were constantly hit with.
@bettykutchera42523 жыл бұрын
@@MrDatsun Thanks for the info. I do remember those black plastic corner protectors that pinched your legs. LOL!
