I saw that as well. I could see Bob Uecker doing a Miller lite commercial at that show pitting the V8 powered car owners against the 4 cylinder owners, or front wheel drive vs rear wheel drive owners. If the readers remember the "taste great less filling" fights he would start in the commercials of the 80's. If not KZbin has them to view.

My grandmother had one of these when I was a kid, she was quite the bad ass in her old age. She had a little black Omni GHLS with red valour interior, and the wheels had gold accents on it. It was super cool. Someone hit it parked on the street and totaled it. Then she ended up with a supercharged pontiac bonneville. Again all black with gold accents.

I had a black and gray GLH-T in '85. I autocrossed it in '85 + '86. It was a riot. Time trials were a blast on road racing courses. Mine would top out at 125mph on the Interstate. It would pull hard for 10 seconds, then back the boost off from 12 to 8 lbs to cool the pistons for 10 seconds. Then go from 118 right back up to 125. They were aerodynamically limited. I sold it to go motorcycle roadracing. Wish I still had it...

Years ago in my MOPAR car club was a guy with a K-car. It was brown, with a vinyl top, whitewalls and wire hubcaps. He had a custom head, big turbo and an exhaust dump. If I remember right it was dipping down in the 12 second range. But when he was done racing, he turned on the AC and drove home.

Cool to see these in America, they sold these cars in Europe under the Chrysler and Talbot brands we never got the turbo engine as far as i'm aware, they used to be used in rallying a lot here in Ireland back in the day along with mk2 Escorts and Toyota AE86's etc.

@jamesbetts3371

So James obviously knows his mini muscle cars at least the ones that matter. I wanted to what his total investment is on the Omni? The thing that I really liked hearing was his salvage approach to keep it all Mopar. Engine from a Caravan, Shifter and cables form a Shadow and center consul out of a Daytona. The fact that he is competing and beating Demons , Hellcats and the newer Gen III hemi cars that are $ 70,000 and up with 2x the cylinders, 4-6x the displacement. He should make and place a vinyl sticker in the back window saying " NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT MY ASS" and a follow up would be " Place your other cylinders up your crank case!! " So much respect for keeping it real and bringing the unusual to the show. My brother in law had the Colt GL with the 2.2 turbo which his family bought brand new and he left it me too sell when they moved from Cali to the east coast. When the turbo kicked in that car was scary fast and would spin the front tires. If you power braking from a stop the front tires would lift off the ground if you got the Rpm's up enough to get the turbo to spool. Only corrections to be made were the turbo on James' GLH was not O.E.M equipment along with the coil packs and love the Easy button. Lastly the '"S" meant Shelby because they would rework and tweek those engines throttle bodies and install the inner cooler but back then that meant a radiator for the oil that fed the turbo. It surprised me that my brother in law did not know about letting the car idle for at least a minute or two before shutting off the engine to prevent to burning of the oil. I had to show him in the owners manual and after that he showed his dad and still did not believe what he was shown idiot. Shelby would sign every car that got his name usually in glove box. For the time Mr. Shelby worked with Chrysler he had a Shelby version and always a different model. Shadow, Daytona, Lazer, Omni etc. I also loved the F.Y to FORD because the way Lee Iacocca and Shelby were treated and summarily dismissed by Henry Ford II. The two guys who gave Ford some of the best selling cars in American Auto sales. Lee proposed the idea of the minivan to Ford who shot it down. The minivan is what turned Chrysler around for the most part along with the K cars. James thank you for keeping a very special part of Chrysler history alive, because the new cars are awesome and back to the roots of mopar muscle but the company is owned by Fiat. The government guaranteed loans to Chrysler in the 70's to keep them from closing up shop and keep the jobs in America, and for national security because they had the contract for the Abrahams tanks as well but mostly to stop a foreign company from owning such a vital part of American lively hood. WTF changed with the government policy since then? Was it Clintons Nafta??????

HOLY SHIT I had to watch the video twice because I kept on getting distracted by all the beautiful MOPARS going by. I love the Omnis and would love to own one. I love the fact that Grand Cherokee from the other video passed by. Great video Bruh. New Sub!

I love the aesthetics of the old hatches. Wasn’t there ideas of calling it the Fox before glhs moniker? If I remember correctly they considered that name because it ate Rabbits (vw)

These cars were so underrated and ignored because they weren’t traditional pony car. Carrol Shelby took a lot of heat from past fans over what they considered front wheel drive heresy. But they did what was intended. They injected some buzz and go juice in Ioccocas economy cars. The Daytona Turbo Z was a nice looking version.

I thought this was a Chevette at first. My dad used to have one for years growing up, but this is sick. I've always wanted to restomod one and upgrade the power.
