That’s a water cistern in the end. It was kept below grade for filling operations as there would’ve been a hand pump on top. It was used for daily washing but also drinking, that’s why it’s lined with brick so there’s no cross contamination from metals.
@Liescomefromtheright5 ай бұрын
That isn't a cistern. It's a salt water battery slash hydrogen extractor. The salt water was allowed to flow in and be purified. The natural salt content allows for electrolysis of the water. The electricity needed was produced from the aether gathered from the dome with the spire at the top. That sphere was or may still be filled with mercury. The rest of the tech has been since been removed. The water that remains after electrolysis can be further separated into monoatomic hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen was used for refueling air ships that would dock at the top. The winding winch was used for stabilizing the tail end, so it had two points of contact with the tower at all times.

@4:28 We use those Bird Guard systems at my work. The calls are recordings of predator birds, and it is meant to keep other birds from nesting or collecting at an area. We have open rail car doors and birds like to fly in and land, roost, nest on top of our large rolls of paper and per our food and safety guidelines, we have to have those installed. You may find it helpful, as long as the recorded calls are natural predators of the other foul that congregate on the lighthouse. I hope that helps.

I am not sure about the Bird Guard Pro, but I was at the VW Glaserne Manufaktur in Dresden, Germany years ago. The factory building was all glass, and they had a ton of bird strikes for a while. Because of this, the factory installed speakers that emitted predatory bird sounds that would scare the local birds away. Bird strikes pretty much ended after the installation, so I am assuming the Bird Guard would do the same thing. Maybe? Loving the videos!

Bird Gard Pro works good for repelling Osprey and Seagulls. Just set it for the predator call that goes after the birds you are wanting to repel. They are very annoying, so you may want to turn it off when you are out their doing your maintenance. Just turn it on when you live. FYI for those of you who do not now. In the old days before solar the light houses used to be powered by sea water. The light house would rotate and flash a signal though being powered by sea water. It worked by electrolysis. Most light houses were powered that way all through the 70's into the early 80's when the US Coast Guard started converting them over to solar power. The light was stationary the lens around it would rotate flashing the beacon while the back of the lens was a radar reflector and would show up on a ship or boats navigational radar screen. As a steady pulse "flash". Their was also an air powered fog horn that would sound during inclement weather that had some kind of timing device. One last thing rainwater was used to cool down the electrical transformer so it would not overheat. PS the pipe that you said someone stuffed in the other pipe is the Anode that produces the electricity for the lighthouse.

Seeing as how that extra little basin is in what appears to be a store room for provisions, perhaps it was intended to be a holding tank for potable water with a pitcher pump on top, bolted to the flange. I cant imagine they were drinking the raw rainwater out of the main cisterns. Maybe they would boil the rainwater to sanitize it then dump it down into their drinking water basin.

Your close that is an unmanned light house. The beacon light and rotating lens was powered by sea water. By electrolysis. Their was an anode that produced the electricity that had to be replaced occasionally. The Coast Guard would keep spare parts such as spare light bulbs and rotator parts. In case of part failure they could quickly replace it. Their was also a large transformer and capacitors used to convert the DC current to AC to power everything. Rain water was used to cool the power systems electrical transformer. Also their were air powered horns mounted on the outside for use in inclement weather.

Hey is this the guy that liked to slap everything? So much so that the video had a slap counter? That was awesome! I Watched the whole video because of that alone. Whom ever had that idea should be giving more creative control/a raise.(In responsibility ah ah ha)

lol yes. Thomas got a raise after that video. One extra Starbucks per week!

I have a birdguard pro. It attracted the neighbor lady asking if a bird was suffering somewhere in my yard, It did scare away birds that eat fruit off the trees, but think they got used to the noise after a while and kept eating the fruit.

😂 It is disturbing to listen to 😬

When its finished i think a celebratory "boat-in" theatre showing Hitchcock's "The Birds" would be fun and appropriate. Inflatable screen up top. Projector on a boat off site. Sound over shortwave or gmrs.

lol! Or maybe a feel good movie such as The Lighthouse 😅

gas station by my house uses one of those bird guards, they are predatory bird sounds and seems to keep the gulls and pigeons away for sure...

Most lighthouses have the rainwater and fresh water cisterntanks at the lowest part of the building.

That would be cool to have a camera set up to see if that "bird speaker" actually scares the poopers away!! 😆😂

@ 7:41 Maybe it is a try of a Well (Brunnen) to reach the Grounwater and collect Freshwater? I think if you build a Brickshaft i can remember it will slowly collect freshwater, even if it surrounded by Saltwater. But Maybe im wrong, i only think i remembered this...

odd curiosity ...with that light by the gov ...is there some added stuff in the deed allowing access or saying you must keep a light going ...just might be a cool paperwork oddity
@thelighthousecenters8 ай бұрын
Yes. The light is operated by the US Coast Guard, and by deed we must allow access to them at any time.

If you're not obligated to keep the lantern room functional, you should turn it into a greenhouse

We thought of this too! Especially because there is nowhere to have a garden and I am a big fan of fresh veggies to go with the fish and crab and oysters. It’s a lot of hard work to restore a lighthouse, but we are going to eat like kings lol.

@@thelighthousecenters 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Back in the day, you know, 60s, 70s long screws were the way to go, the longer the better. 80s, 90s, early2k, it seems short screws became favoured. Nowadays, with all the technology around it seems to me that screwing has become redundant In favour of modern procedures. And don’t get me started on bolts! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thanks guys, you’re doing a good job and releasing interesting videos. NAILED IT!!! Signed An old fart (from downunder) Born in the mid 50s 👍 🤣🤣🤣

Where is the original oil tank for running the original lantern? Seems to me, that there was once such a tank? Sounds like fun work, and I bet the location would make a cool amateur radio station, which would get a lot of attention for the lighthouse!
@thelighthousecenters8 ай бұрын
Probably not in the floor though
@jeffreyyoung41048 ай бұрын
@@thelighthousecenters You are right, Water was stored below the floor and the oil was stored in steel tanks called butts, and it was carried upstairs in 5 gallon pitchers, called an oil transfer can. To me it looks like a cream can a dairy would have, but with a pipe spout to pour out the oil into the lantern.
