Hi! Speaking as someone with quite an extensive knowledge of gemstones: 1. Those rubies aren’t for watches - they are faceted, and in such a way that they maximise carat weight. I am very familiar with this shape, it is generally considered a low quality cut, but probably means that the material is generally valuable. 2. While those white gems that aren’t diamonds, could be cz, it’s very possible they are white sapphire, a common alternative to diamond. 3. If you take these gems to a jeweller with any kind of gemology equipment they will be able to tell you exactly what each gem is, and I think it’s likely that not many are cz Very cool video :)

The little rubys are called balance gems or jewel bearings. They are used in watches as pivots to reduce friction on rotating parts.
2 жыл бұрын
But those does look very differently, they're not cut like real gem stones, but they're usually in the shape of an o-ring with no edges. Stupid KZbin adds my comment with links to photos without any error, but when I reload the page, the comment disappears, so you have to Google those photos yourself, unfortunatelly.

I spent a year working at a commercial tourist attraction gold mine in N.C. some years ago. Spending every day panning was great, and we had an east coast gold vein on site, so we also had a very large wash plant more on the scale of the ones you see on TV. We would bring out 20-30 ounces a season all told, and we didn't track what the tourists found or what staff found on days off and didn't mention either. Good times. Not getting rich, but having the experience of a lifetime. Your idea to hit sidewalks in NY or really any major city is genius. Also you talk about jeweler clothing and aprons spilling dust, but honestly I bet you are panning decades of jewelers and metal smiths sweeping their shop floors out the front door with a broom too.

The “diamonds” could very well be moissanite. I have the same diamond tester and moissanite will react just like diamonds. I’ve since upgraded to a better diamond tester that will specifically detect and alert to moissanite and diamonds separately.

To realize that the cracks of a city sidewalk may well contain dust and small scraps of gold, silver, and/or platinum, precious and semi-precious stones is hard to believe. Yet now, after watching this video, we do just that. I'm sorry to have missed out on the opportunity of winning the giveaway. Yet for me, watching you make your discoveries is in itself, a great consolation prize. It's a win-win, so it turns out I did of sorts come away a winner. ☺️

Hey I came across your video on my random KZbin suggestions and had a quick suggestion for you (or viewers that go out and do this): Pick up a "High-Viz" Vest (High Visibility) from Lowes or Home Depot to wear during the street cleaning. If you're wearing a vest and maybe even put up a few cones with Caution Tape, the police and citizens will likely never mess with you. If they do, just say you're with the "Citizens For Cleaner Sidewalks Group" and that way you're not pretending to be a governnent official in any way - which IS a crime. Again for anyone reading this: **If you say you're with the City, you're committing a felony! Don't Do It!**. Enjoy this Social Engineering Tip From Your Best Fiend @notdan! ;) Cheers!

This is a great video, good concept (not finished watching yet) but I gotta be honest... hunting for gold and gems in sidewalk cracks and hearing you explain how to do it is absolutely mindblowing. We use to cut mountains down to find some gemstones and minerals, now we hunt the cracks of city streets. That is slightly unsettling for some reason. Love the concept, just feels odd to me (compared to finding natural minerals and gems).

Also a watchmaker here. What stood out to me is that watch movement jewels are more like little micro hockey pucks with holes through their centers 99% of the time. Like perfectly smooth little rings almost, other than the capstones and even then.... You'll never see these big, facet-cut cabochon style rubies in a watch. Some of the really early pocket watches did use relatively huge, natural diamonds as balance capstones though!

well i took basic jewelry making and i can tell u watches dont crack...thats a weld i think that seals it. like swiss made watches and rolexs, not solder. those gems are fully mounted, ive seen it. they do not fall out..only fakes and its hard to tell here in california. the rain washes that shit right off the street if it were real diamonds or gems...as the street divide is too metric and small. i think watches in the industry are far more expensive and complicated than jewelry...those diamonds are insured i think. like rolex's... the term ur thinking of is fabricated...also a jewelry making term. you have fabricated diamonds nowadays too...

Several years ago I offered my niece heirloom jewelry I had inherited. The value of the 2 rings was about $6,000. The only catch was she had to have them looked over by a jeweler to tighten the prongs. She ended up spending a couple of hundred to tighten them up (140yr old rings). Much cheaper than replacing the stones.

Pretty interesting! Now I'm wondering if the street cracks in Tokyo are dingy enough to try this. haha! Last year, I bought an abandoned house in Hiroshima and have been cleaning, sorting, and treasure hunting what's been left behind. I found a quarter karat diamond that still had the original paperwork and case. I had it authenticated with a gem master in the city. Unfortunately, the pearl necklace was fake, but I have also found nearly 200 old coins from the 1950s and early 1960s, 13 old 1000-yen bills (valued at about $25 up each), and old 10,000 yen note, and -- wait for it -- a WWII officer's katana! There's some other stuff but these are the biggest items so far. Currently, the local police board is investigating my katana to be sure it isn't connected to any criminal activity. If all goes well, I will be able to register it and keep it. The value is roughly $2000.

Don’t get fooled guys. He is buying the leftovers from the jewelry workshops and putting them in the dirt. It’s most likely not even the same dirt from nyc. He is making more than 10x the amount of money with KZbin views, that he spend for the leftovers. Use your brain guys, not only your eyes.

Very cool video, Shane! I always love the surprises that millions of people walk past daily. A local could do well with a monthly or perhaps quarterly clean out in the area. Enjoy your weekend! 🤘😎

Dude absolutely love these videos. I can't believe the amount of gold and jewels just sitting in the sidewalk cracks. But it make sense the cuts in the cement act like riffles on a sloose can't wait to see the shop when it's all done! Keep mailing awesome video shane! New paydirt name "klesh curb side pick-up" lol 😆

My husband would love this, the amount of stuff he finds on the daily is crazy. We even have a phone book filled with 4 leaf clovers because he finds one anytime he walks through the grass. Money on the floor in the store, under the shelves sometimes because it doesn't really get swept often. All just by chance. So as you could imagine, we go morel mushroom picking and he's got a great eye for it...we need to go to New York i guess!

I agree! I was surprised to hear he lives in Colorado when he said he was scraping sidewalk cracks in NYC! He picked an amazing district to do it in too! Very wise choice IMHO!

THIS is sooo cool. I’ve always been very interested in searching for “lost treasure” (modern day). I’m a sucker for gemstones. I bought my 11yrs old a BIG magnet for his bday in July and I plan on bringing a metal detector to Florida for the first time (we go every year/14-15’s now). I cannot wait!! Gotta do this with my kids.

I have really enjoyed this NYC sidewalk stuff, it is so interesting that there's so much just sitting there in the cracks! I'm from Oregon and did a lot of treasure hunting as a kid tagging along with the family, spending hours sitting on the sides of the stream waiting to hear if we'd found anything so I could help, now I am always hunting in the rock beds for anything shiny. Now I am living in Alaska and I am itching to go out and find some of that beautiful history.

I be been rock hounding since I was young. Just recently got into panning and it’s a great way to shut my mind off and focus on what I’m doing. Prospected the creek behind the house with some success! Flour gold, but gold is gold! Love the videos!
