I just bought this last week and here is my experience. Mixing as directed produced a thin, Grainy product that was acrid and just plain terrible. Refrigerating overnight did nothing to improve it. I tried a second time with my blender and the texture was better but still thin and when I tried adding a little more powder to thicken it, it became too tart. With a third attempt, I used milk instead of water, increased the powder by one part and added a 1/2 a tsp of powdered sugar and a pinch of salt to kill the acridness caused by the increase in powder. It was much better but still not something I want on my taco. I did use the amount I made for mashed potatoes and it worked well. I also made a sour cream coffee cake and it was really good. So, for cooking it's a good substitution but not so much for a topping. For a topping, I have discovered that you can mix two teaspoons of lemon juice with one can of Nestle Crema and get a very good "sour cream" for topping. Refrigerate for a few minutes and it's really good and good price. Hope this helps 😁 .

So good to hear their stuff is good! I bought their whole milk powder, sour cream powder, cheddar cheese powder, and the heavy cream powder. I have them set aside for the winter since I'm still able to get to the store for those items (fresh) but I'm glad to hear they're good. They have good reviews and there is at least one KZbinr who recommends their stuff. Beef stroganoff and chicken paprikash are 2 of our family's regular meals. I home canned beef and chicken, dehydrated mushrooms and onions, and have a nice stock of spices, bouillon, and egg noodles to be able to make both dishes.

Try adding buttermilk powder in increments to up the flavor, somewhat like cream frache. Then let it set @ room temperature for just a little to blend flavors. Hope this helps.

I just happen to have these ingredients on hand. 2 Tbs Sour cream powder,1 Tbs Heavy Cream powder, 1 Tbs butter powder, a little salt a little powdered sugar. Not as good as the real stuff but edible and a good thick texture.

I use this exact product for my meals in jar/Mylar bag. It works and taste awesome! If you leave that mixture you made in the refrigerator over night! It will pick up a much better consistency.. 😁

I have used the white cheddar cheese powder in instant mashed potatoes to make them taste better. It helped. They were good. I have bought the whole milk, heavy cream, honey, cheddar, big mac daddy, and white cheddar cheese in this brand. The only one I have tried sofar is the white cheddar cheese and it was good.

I have used that product, but I added it dry to dry potato flakes before I mixed the potatoes up with water. Added some chives and California Garlic Pepper. (McCormicks) It turned out pretty good.

Thought about trying this on baked potatoes. If i was baking I'd in a pinch a little vinegar with powdered milk and a splash of water. To me it makes more since and cheaper too

AP, just wanted you to know, I listen to the ads that are less than a minute on every channel I I regularly watch. I believe I should pay for what I use and it is the least I can do. Money is tight. I started prepping because of you. I "taught" my youngest, 26 by sharing some of the news you shared about coming shortages and suggesting stocking up a bit. He then ran to the internet to confirm the news and stocked up on his own. I don't know how to reach my other two. :(

Appreciate the review- useful. I've been looking at some of their products. OK won't be trying this one though. Maybe the whole milk powder or powder cheese.. BTW yeah real mashed potatoes with real sour cream is great- that's how my Mom makes mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving dinner day before. So much to make, so the sour cream keeps the mashed potatoes creamy so just pull out of fridge and pop in oven. Without real sour cream, the potatoes dry out and get lumpy.

I use Hoosier hills on a regular basis. I love it. The sour cream should refrigerate over night if you want a thicker product. I am a Hoosier btw 👋🏻!

When dealing with powders you should always put the powder in the bowl and add the liquid to the powder so you can control how thick or thin the mixture becomes. That said, some things just shouldn’t be powdered for normal use or should have a warning like “for use with baking only”. Im glad I didnt try this one. ☺️

This can be used in dry mixes like Ranch and in cooking to add flavor.

Still experimenting with this. Use it in Chicken enchilada soup . Added only a small amount at a time and dissolved it in Hot broth first . Worked great .

I bought the extra tangy sour cream from Hoosier Hills, but I am planning on using it for casseroles and dishes that I want a sour cream flavor in, like taco soup, cheesy potatoes, beef stroganoff, potato soup etc. As far as sour cream the only thing I can think of to get that "sour cream" texture and taste is to make a greek yogurt our of dry milk and use that as a fresh sour cream.
