I remember when these were brand new. My granny had a blue, hard body Elite Supreme for many years. I repaired the fan in it once and sold it on eBay a few years ago. I asked her several times if she was sure she wanted me to sell it and she said, 'yes.'

Just seeing this. I have the slightly older variant (1991), I thought it was even older than that, like, 1983. Anyway, the bag opens from the top, not along the side like yours but identical otherwise. Sadly, if you suck up items by accident, the fan will get worn down/broken as mine appears to be, so now it does not suck up like it should when vacuuming my bedroom. Mom got it in a contest at a local commissary at the time and eventually gave it to me when went bagless (another Hoover, even the same color) and she gave me this one. It actually uses the A bags, though supposedly, they now are Hepa bags? You can still get the bags, but the fan is no longer made and they had upgraded the fan. Likely the final straw for me was back in the spring when I accidentally sucked up via the hose a thumbdrive, USB end first no less up into it, and heard the sound as it went through the impeller and into the bag. Was able to retrieve the device and discard the bag, and it was full anyway. The USB end got smooshed, but the body remained intact, surprisingly. I used to vacuum up dog hair and now does not do that very well of late. So am knee deep in research and may pick up a used Miele or Sebo canister if I can find one locally.

Congrats on your first Elite II, I have a similar model myself, only mine's the slide top version that was featured on Mrs. Doubtfire, and it has the same 6.5 amp motor that this has.
