I remember my school had that vacuum in the janitor closet in the first grade hallway, I miss it so much

I love these sharps, eventho I prefer the Panasonics and Taconys more, but these are powerhouses and incredibly quiet at the time so theses hold a special place in my heart and it's ashamed that sharp left the vacuum market in the early 2000s. Also, the year is where the 6B is, so its from 1996.

Those 2 spring loaded legs on the underside are actually what holds the powerhead away from the carpet when the machine is switched on and stood in the upright locked position to use the hose and tools - it stops the brushroll scorching the carpet. Height adjustment is automatic on these - they use the floating head hence why the soleplate has small wheels on it and the back wheels are located in the bag housing rather than on the foot of the machine. Very similar to Panasonics of the period. I have a Sanyo which is very similar in design, they are probably made by the same company and just re-badged with the brand that wants to sell them. The hose cuff should fit tighter in the hole on the foot than it does, and that could cause airflow leaks and hissing. The bag door seal could be leaking too, but I am sure you will get to the bottom of it and find the leak.

I felt the same way when I got a Electrolux Super J! It's definitely amazing what you can find, I'm so glad you got a Sharp! I love the color too, definitely gives 90s vibes!

Man I need to find one of these to go with my Panasonic, Kenmore, and Fuller Brush versions. Good choice on the color. Love it.

I've got the same Twin Energy, these things definitely have great performance for what they are, but their build quality is not really the best compared to their competition. That hose whistle noise is perfectly normal as these wear out over time, mine does the same thing, but that motor hum when it's in use is a bit more concerning, I think the motor may need to be serviced one of these days (especially knowing about the carbon brush issue these tend to have).

So, do you have a discord? Because I own two of these vacuums and they both definitely dont sound like that. Id love to help you to fix this one up alittle more, like I said I own two of these and ive take both apart. Let me know how I can help you get this guy perfect for ya 😊

For us it sounded a bit rough kinda like a wine sireny sound to it when you capped the hose with your hand like it has dirt in the bearings or some dry bearings but nice vacuum non the less

I just watched a video of this and it's not supposed to sound like that. Maybe try to fix the gasket for the bag door and get a pre motor filter and regrease the motor bearings too 😊😊

Also when you take the motor apart, be sure the carbon brushes are pressed back into their seats, add a small dab of glue to prevent them from walking back out.

I may open mine up and replace the brushes. These use the American made AMETEK/LAMB motor, may be assembled in Mexico, doesn't matter. Used in Tri-Star vacuums even from decades ago. The brushes are readily available. 4Pack Vacuum Motor Carbon Brush for Ametek Lamb 2311480 less than $14, or 2 for like $9. Ametek makes electric motors used on private business jets. I'd rather have an Ametek or Panasonic motor than a NingBo DeChang Hoover motor.🤣
